Hi there I'm coming to Plymouth soon! And was wondering how you find the university as a person from a different ethnic background? I'm brown living in England my whole life and was worried maybe there will be a cultural difference

It really depends on what you're used to. Compared to a more ethnically diverse big city, Devon as a whole isn't as diverse. However, being in a university setting, especially with the campus being in the city center where most students spend their time, you'll find more diversity compared to the rest of Plymouth outside the city center. On an even smaller scale, diversity also depends on how popular the course is. For example, popular courses like Medicine and Marine Biology tend to attract and have a more diverse student body, whereas in less popular subjects, like Civil Engineering, which I study, there were fewer students from different cultural backgrounds. This also applies to societies but there are some societies that celebrate specific cultural groups, that you can join. So, in my personal opinion, while cultural and ethnic diversity is definitely present, it's something you might need to actively seek out.
