Thanks Yamaha for another great update! I already prefer the organ to other keyboards I’ve tried and this new updated has elevated it even more! Please could you put your focus into the piano engine next by adding sympathetic strings resonance and adjustable pedal noise, hammer and key release for the acoustic and e.pianos. Also, could you add the two missing clavinet pickups please. The closest competing keyboards already have this and this is the only area where I feel the YC is lacking. If the piano engine gets updated this would take what’s already a great board to another level!!
Love my YC, but really wish Yamaha would release more sounds (not live sets) for it to boost the synth sounds. So much attention on the organ with these updates, which is fair enough, but would love a bit more love on the other stuff. Many people are buying this for piano/synth/sound design reasons, not just organ use.
The YC has a complete and super comprehensive FM Synth engine onboard. Why does Yamaha not realease an Editor for that - maybe on iOS or something like that? That would be a really fantastic Game Changer! There is no need to program FM-Sounds on the instrument itself during a live gig - but why not unlock this power for studio use or “offline prep” of new, surprising sounds?
I totally agree. A possible reason for Yamaha to spoil FM Edit might be that the YC series does not belong to the “synthesizer” category. Yamaha may want the user to use a “montage synthesizer” for tone creation. However, it is a waste of a built-in FM sound source. We strongly hope that an FM sound editor will be included.😄
Very nice update, thanks Yamaha! What I'd like to see is a pipe organ with multiple registers that can be controlled by the drawbars. When I bought my YC, I decided for Yamaha and against Hammond, but this feature (which the Hammond does have) is missing from the Yamaha. Would be so dope if this was included as well.
Great that they are constantly listening to users, working hard and updates but Yamaha: the elephant is still in the room! 1) The 61 note keybed triggers too low (not a settings thing) for organ vs the rest of the market with the Fatar TP80; 2) We need assignable outputs per section - eg Organ mono L, other sounds mono R, for those who want to use a Leslie speaker. It's time for YC61 hardware V2.0!
On a real Hammond the drawbars activate the further you bottom out the key - this whole 'High Trigger' nonsense is not how a real organ action responds.
@@AynsleyGreenthat's the bussbars making contact at different times which is different, there's still a very short key travel staccato feel to a real tonewheel Hammond. Okay, let's take the tech expressions out to avoid splitting hairs: put simply, the YC61 doesn't feel right compared to any of the old tonewheels I've owned or played and most other current things on the market. It's more fatiguing to play, for some reason. And it sounds fantastic, which is why it is such a shame. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan and want it to get better and better. But the 61 is the problem: the YC73 is always raved about because people aren't expecting a B3 action, just access to the great organ sounds.
@@robmillisTW2 In fairness, I have not played the YC61 action. I do have a NS4C with the much hyped 'High Trigger Point', I switched it back to Low. High just doesn't feel right when you barely feather the key and all 9 drawbars trigger like a sledgehammer. The Viscount Soul models the trigger points correctly, it feels pretty close to my Portable Hammond mk 1
What YC needs is a voice editing function for FM sound sources. It is a shame that it is such a waste of a sound source that is equivalent to the DX-7.
@@wieselt The FMX engine is already in there (surely), they just given very little editing capabilities. Maybe being able to transfer patches in from other devices/software/Cloud, like what Roland have done with Zencore, would be a nice bonus feature?

@@AynsleyGreen I have a 1964 C3, a 2016 NewB3 MK2, and tested all existing clones since 1996... All of them (all the recent clones) have a sort of "immediate" trigger point. Obviously for the vintage C3 and the NewB3, both with real analog contacts under each key, the behaviour it's in some way different. But in any case you have that kind of feeling with the keys (ghost notes, percussive techniques, etc.), just touching lightly the keys. This is not possible (or not simple, nor immediate) with the YC (the sound comes out at almost half way of the key pressure). So the YC trigger is different from all other clonewheels (and, in some way, from the real thing). A real pity, considering the high quality of overall sound, overdrive, rotary simulation.
@@marcoballa I have a Portable B3 mk 1, and a Viscount Legend Soul, both of which behave realistically (the Soul is customisable). Triggering all 9 drawbars at the top of the action doesn't really give you the 'ghost note effect' either, just makes it easier to play certain things. Neither Low Trigger nor the High Trigger found on most clonewheels are particularly realistic.
@@AynsleyGreen yes, 100% agree 👍 In almost all clonewheels the effect given by the fake keyclick is not comparable to what you can obtain with the real thing and the NewB3. The YC has a good keyclick simulation so that's why I'm concerned with the wrong trigger point 😁🤣
For OS1.5 - Can we have the Bösendorfer Sample from the CP on the YC please, Yamaha? A fact is that the YC is the only real competitor for the Nord Electro. The more you enhance it, the better.

Not at all. No need for them to release a new model. This model isn’t crying for an upgrade by any means (people’s main issues with it are all things they could update in software). Yamaha tend to do software updates far more than model updates. It was some 6-8 years before the montage got an upgraded model. So I wouldn’t be waiting for it on the YC!
I alternated between the H3 and H4 (on same voice) and only less growl or texture on the low end of H4 (slightly more bass)not much to the update. Turn off the rotary and effects to compare apples to apples. I thought it would have new pipe organ models and others. Pretty lame Yamaha, I'm selling mine.

I don't think the YC actually has a real piano engine in it unfortunately. It looks more like a romper in that regard

The CP has some surprisingly good sampled Pipe Organ & Harpsichord sounds, but the YC does not, annoyingly

Genos 2 does not have the same engine. This cannot be done. For organ Genos 2 kan only handle samples, not emulated organs.

Well this is the fourth small update, and they didn't update the model after the first three times, so....
