What Wike is doing to Fubara/Rivers state is reprehensible, however the way Ijaw people are now making it ethnic fight is disgusting and disgraceful. Many Ikweres are supporting Fubara, does it now mean that they should start towing ethnic line. This is a bad precedent for the state
Your line of thinking is not wrong. But I think the Ijaws in Rivers state are making it an ethnic thing because of the obvious oppressive tendencies against them by people like Nyesom Wike. Just as you said, many Ikwerres are fully supporting Sim Fubara. And don't also forget, the current anger of the Ijaws in Rivers state is not unconnected with the fact that the Ijaws played prominent roles and supported the upland people in Rivers state to be in the seat of power for 24 consecutive years. Maybe Marshall Harry made a mistake for fighting against his own brother to install Peter Odili. Maybe the Jonathans made a second mistake for installing Like, even when Amaechi supported an Opobo man. So the Ijaws may be seen as overreacting, but it's natural to be like that especially in politics...

There is need for history in Rivers State. The people seems to be so confused.
Opobo is made of igbos,ijaws - igbani people courtesy of king jaja of Opobo a liberated igbo slave who came from Nkwerre in imo State. This great Son of Africa and indeed an igbo man founded the Opobo kingdom. And his subjects included igbos , ijaws - Igbani people.Most of Opobo indigenes understand and speak ibo. History should be brought back to our school curriculum. So we understand our ancestry and relationships.

They voted to be part of Cameroon and not Nigeria because they fear being dominated by the igbos. Now it's important you know this, Opobo like Bonny and Abonnema had seaports that were used to ship slaves from Nigeria to Europe, America, the west Indies etc. a lot of igbos were bought as slaves from igbos land and were taken to Opobo and other ports as mentioned earlier to be shipped out. Now, a lot of these igbos mostly women were sold to the natives of Opobo, Bonny and Kalabari people; their men married them and had children with them. The Opobo people and their Bonny counterpart failed to properly integrate the Ibani language on these married slaves thereby leading to infiltration of a foreign language in their land. On the other hand, the Kalabaris' were able to restrict the speaking of foreign language (Igbo) in their land; properly integrating the slave women to the kalabari culture. I'll advise you to do a survey in Kalabari land and you will discover that a lot of Kalabari people especially in Abonnema will tell you that their great grandmother is Igbo. We buried one of my great aunt. Aside from the fact that she's known as aunty Chima till her death, every other aspect of her life is Kalabari that she didn't know where exactly from Igbo she's originally from. I never heard her speak Igbo, never! As you can see, the kalabari unlike the Opobo and Bonny people managed theirs well.
Not so long ago, the Rivers State Government in partnership with the Ibani speaking tribe of Rivers State came up with a project to save the Ibani language from extinction. I don't know how far they went with that. But I think for the sake of their identity and culture, they have to do something fast before the language goes into extinction. There were other more qualified riverine candidates already being considered by Goodluck Jonathan for governor of Rivers State in 2015. Mind you, the outgoing governor at that time (Rotimi Amaechi) is an Ikwerre Man (Upland) same as Wike,
Already, the upland had served 16 years from Peter Odili to Amaechi and everyone at that time had expected power to shift to the Riverine. Evans Bipi at that time was a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and part of a seven member group opposed to Amaechi, also a strong ally to Wike at that time. Like I said earlier, no one expected an upland governor to succeed Amaechi. It wasn't even an option. For Wike to get the ticket at that time, he needed someone close to the wife of the President who also is a Riverrine Rivers woman to get her support.
I remember speaking with a close friend of Mrs, Jonathan prior to the declarations of Wike as PDP's flag bearer in the 2015 governorship election in Rivers State, she told me clearly that Patience Jonathan had told her that it would be Wike. In her words; "If you have something in your hand and several people want it, and they're all going to meet your husband and only one person recognizes you and comes to you for it, who will you give? Of course I will give it to the person that recognized me. Know that Wike will be governor of Rivers State, go and work with him"
This transpired before Wike made it public that he wanted to be governor. But I must add that she didn't say someone brought Wike to her. But I think it's logical for Wike to have gone with someone close to the first lady to plead his case considering the circumstances at that time.
