sorry there's some squeaky chair in the recording (and I was also getting over a head cold too, so I may sound a tad nasally at moments), but I tried to clean most of it up in the edit.
It's so strange thinking about New Vegas economics when you play as the courier; So many people dwelling in the sewers just trying to make it day to day. Here I am 100,000 bottlecaps in my pocket just from being an unstoppable killing machine who's impossibility good at blackjack, Seriously these guys need to hustle.
4:31 HE DID! HE SAID THE THING! Realy good video man, stuff like "Abandoned houses that House abandoned" and "Imagine how Gomorra smells" blew me away cause they are funny, but also made me think a little more about the setting.
Great video, I hadn't given much thought to the divisions and differences between Freeside, the Outer Strip, and the Strip. Also enjoy you (correctly) pointing out that House's "HUR DUR FATE OF DEMOCRACY" quote is just as, if not more, damning of him than it is the Legion and NCR.
Strangely we can never talk to House regarding the conditions of Freeside and Outer Vegas, which is a shame that we aren't allowed to point out his hypocrisy.
This is one of my favourite fallout lore videos I have come across and I'm pretty sure I have almost tapped UA-cam dry. Can't wait to see more, fucking fantastic work mate

Thank you for your completely unnecessarily in-depth analysis of the metropolitan area of New Vegas. But seriously, I really enjoyed this video. I love shit like this.
This is excellent and really manages to get at what 'capitalism' means in the context of Fallout in a way that most other analyses fail to; Can we really talk about 'capitalism' in an economy which has no real overarching system of production and is still fundamentally based on scavenging and reparing relics? Generally not, in spite of the superficial apeing of different facets of 20th century capitalism by many inhabitants of the wasteland, but House is a kind of more direct continuity and not the brave futurist he is often percieved as. So hey, if we've gotta roll a hard six, No Gods, No Masters, I'll take my chances with Yes Man.
Can you call a primarily barter market system capitalistic? It's more like larger scale medieval feudalism with House as a King and the families as noble houses. Though even medievals had the guild system. It's weird because the NCR and Legion both are attempting to create their own currencies while House is not and doesn't seem concerned with it. In a way House isn't concerned with wealth creation at all but wealth seizure for the process of creating technological advancement. Some people left behind is fine for him. It's very difficult to attribute an economic model onto him for this reason. Either way good speculations
alright I'll come clean since the guilt has been eating away at me. I don't know what the "eyeball zone" is or if it's even a thing. I just said "yep" because it sounded funny. my sincere and utmost condolences.
2:36 i have a relative thats currently in the marine core and was stationed in japan (not anymore cause he got tired of having to move everything) he said most dislike it but couldnt care less about them being there, its only when some random dick decides to poke the civilians is when they get angry only the minority (which is still pretty big) are hugely against them to the point where theyll harass them its not really a surprise considering japan tends to stay away from foreigners, especially if theyre going to only stay for a few months
New Vegas may seem smart, but it completely fails to realize what Mr. House would really do if this situation occurred. It is in his own best interest to try to uplift these communities, and build them to where they are proper towns and not slums. Mr. House would realize that a far more successful model would be the Singaporean model, rather than his current one. While I do agree that Mr. House measures progress technogically and not socially, he should be smart enough to see that he needs that social progress for his technological ambitions. Mr. House could develop the Mojave to a min-archy, or a night watchman state, where he provides the necessary security (which he can) and basic laws for people to begin investing in themselves and their local area, which would eventually lead back to an increased revenue stream at his casinos. Of course this requires the legion and the NCR to be removed as factors, but I think House would, and already does in-game see the use of the NCR existing, and an alliance between the two to drive out the legion and riff-raff could very well work for both.

I like this youtuber but I find his takes about capitalism ridiculous, even to base belief that some system is worse based on a game is questionable itself, but furthermore he fails to mention that only successful nations after war in fallout are "capitalist". Even though they only have capitalistic elements, as in fallout worlds production capacity is simply not advanced enough to prop up a proper capitalism, but if they were to become full fledged capitalist system quality of life would rapidly improve like it did in our history. I could reccomend few books, but as comments reading people seldomly would take that recommendation, reasonably so I just urge you to compare purchase ability of lower strata for sugar pre and after capitalism. Quality of life and wealth began rapidly improving *after* capitalism, if it weren't for capitalism the thing called "middle class" would never become a thing, most of us would live a poor life.
