  • In episode 5, I review Redbreast 12, a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey aged for 12 years and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). It has a lovely mix of traditional pot still flavors with a hint of sherry. Redbreast 12 is one of my favorite Irish whiskies and I try to always have a bottle in my cabinet.
The guitar sounds are from my 2016 Fender American Professional Strat.
Whisky Riffs is a channel focused on reviewing whiskies while listening to guitar riffs.

My father brought me a bottle of Redbreast 12 from a trip to Ireland. I was surprised by that great gift from him ! I quite enjoy this one and find it really distinctive from other types of whiskey I’ve had (Bourbon, Scotch, Rye for example). I definitely agree on that buttery note on the nose.

      Another buttery note buddy! Cheers!

Before I even watch....have you tried the 15 year?!! I love the 12, but the 15 is insane and worth every penny!

Oh, yes. The 15 year is great. And I think the 12 year cask strength is better than the regular 40% ABV one. Cheers!

@@WhiskyRiffs Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for the cask strength!

Nice Tasting. But this time I have to be critical with the riffs... Not because of your guitar performance, that's just great. But with an Irish Whiskey from Middleton (close to Cork City ) I would have found a riff from a Rory Gallagher song much more appropriate ;-) Sorry, I am a great Rory fan, could not hold that back...
About 14 years ago I lived for a while in Cork, so I visited Middleton Distillery as well. But back then I was not able to appreciate Whisk(e)y. Today I like from Ireland Connemara the best (because I became a peat head meanwhile...), but I like also Jameson Reserve, a few from the new West Cork Distillery. From Northern Ireland I like Black Bush because this was my entry to the Whisky-World.

I’ll have to practice some Rory Gallagher riffs. Thanks for the suggestion! I tried to bring a bit of Ireland into the riffs on this review: ua-cam.com/video/EBAwfRPeryU/v-deo.html. Cheers!

@@WhiskyRiffs I am not a guitar player, but I heard from friends who play very well, that Rory is quite of a challenge for a guitar player. So I understand, that it is not so easy ;-) Slainte Mhath, Cheers, Nazdrowie and Prost!

Rory is an amazing blues/rock guitarist. He really puts everything into his playing. He’s exactly the type of guitarist that inspires me to get better.

@@WhiskyRiffs I am really jealous on people who have the talent to play guitar! I really appreciate you combine Whisk(e)y and Blues 'n' Rock, both I enjoy pretty much! Keep on rocking!
Btw. I guess, you know, Rory's first band was named "Taste". So one more reason ;-)

I’m just starting with whisky and only had this and the miyagikyo single malt. I love the taste of them both, what would you recommend I try next?

Thanks for asking! As I said in my other reply, subtle wine cask finishes, like the Redbreast 12, can be better for someone who's new to whisky flavors. You might find one in my other video (ua-cam.com/video/yG1ezMswhgg/v-deo.html), but if you don't please ask for more suggestions. I'm happy to help. Cheers and congrats on discovering what you like! Not everyone does.

Ha I literally watched that video last night and certainly food for thought. I live in Australia but we still seem to get a decent range and also some local distilleries. I’ll be sure to keep you posted, thanks for your replies.

Are you asking how much Redbreast costs? It's different in every region, but I used to pay between $50 and $60 USD in San Francisco.

😂 This seems like a “sorry, not sorry” moment. Moderation in everything, my friend. Thanks for watching!
