Great video as always Shaggy! Would love you to continue doing more of the scenarios! A quick correction: a couple of times there you stopped drawing treasure cards after exploring a totem. However there’s a special rule on the scenario sheet that says you have to draw all the specified number of treasure cards (irrespective of whether one of the cards tells you to stop).
Nope, I was doing that correctly. You must stop if the card tells you to stop. You cannot choose to stop on your own, which is something you can normally do when drawing mystery cards. This is a rule many people misunderstand. Thanks for watching, Jay.
@@TotallyTabled ah, ok! I read the special rule on the sheet as meaning you had to draw all (say) 4 treasure cards, no matter what the cards themselves said. I actually only narrowly lost this scenario one evening last week playing that way, but clearly I made it even harder on myself!

I'm glad you liked the playthrough! Yep, I've definitely had some interesting finishes on camera, but I think that is normal for Robinson Crusoe. I love it! Thanks for checking it out!
Ha, if I ever make a review video on RC, I'm going to title it "Finches and Diarrhea: Why Robinson Crusoe is the Best Board Game Ever Made." :) I love that. Maybe I'll just put it on a t-shirt. I agree! Thanks for checking out the playthrough. I just posted my next RC playthrough of the scenario Reality Island. Another great story and exciting ending. I hope you enjoy it!
Looking at the volcano scenario and specifically the totem explores, does their special rule supersede the "stop drawing Mystery cards" so indeed you would have to fade 3,4,4,5 cards.
If you draw a mystery card that tells you to stop, then you must stop. But you cannot choose to draw fewer cards. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.
I'm not sure about the size. I think they are similar, but I have the first edition, which I believe uses different sized tokens from the second edition. Thanks!
Can't watch this now, but just saying that this is gonna be awesome! I'll watch it later when the power goes out again. But I'm giving it a like already because I know it's gonna be good...
Yeah, I love drawing all the cards in this scenario -- the story can go in so many directions. Each of the scenarios is good at showcasing a different aspect of the game and forcing you to interact with it. Love that. Thanks so much for watching!
Weren't you going to lose anyway from the morale track on the last round? The Explorer had no determination tokens and the morale track meant she would need to lose some for the killing wounds even if you hadn't drawn that bad final adventure card.
It was a popular request and playing it again reminded me of why it is such a a good scenario. I love the mystery deck and being able to draw so many cards really is tense and exciting. Thanks for the suggestion!
Ah, yes, I got those over a decade ago from a company I cannot remember but I'm guessing isn't around anymore. I actually would not recommend these. They look good on camera, but are flimsy. Most pieces are broken and I only use about 1/3 of the stuff. If you search Robinson Crusoe inserts you'll find some different options that I would assume are better made than this. Thanks for watching!
Didnt love Robinson when i played it, but did love Frostpunk. Later it occurred to me that they have a ton of similarities, did I miss something with Robinson, or should i trust my gut and just stick to enjoying Frostpunk? Do you think they are similar?
Absolutely. The bones of Frostpunk are definitely Robinson Crusoe. The event system is the same, but with more complexity (and also more fiddly). The morale system is similar but more complex in Frostpunk, and it ties into the events, which is cool. Scenario structure, worker placement, feeding workers, sheltering workers ... it is all the same but more complex and more fiddly in Frostpunk. I think what people fall to appreciate about Robinson Crusoe is how streamlined it is and the amount of crunchy decisions and variety of stories that emerge from such streamlined gameplay. That is what elevates it for me over Frostpunk (which is also one of my favorites). The perceived unfairness of RC is really just a lack of understanding of how to succeed and survive -- the game is unforgiving to new players, but it isn't unfair. Sorry for the essay but I could talk about this brilliant design all day. Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled Not at all, it’s great to get a different opinion on it. Im trying to put my finger on why I like one and not the other. So far, I keep coming back to 3 differences. 1) you get far more actions in FP 2) the event decisions you make in FP are pretty difficult/satisfying 3) I’m in the camp that perceives RC as unfair, although as you said that one might be lack of experience
Watching videos to try and encourage me to play this again. Seems lots of fiddly things to remember. Why were you going through so many cards at the end. I assume you must finish that deck to survive?
There are event cards and encounter cards. Encounter cards are the ones you get during exploration, crafting or gathering actions. You have to keep resolving encounter cards until you resolve one event card. I happened to keep drawing encounters, so that is why I kept drawing cards at the end. Thanks for watching.
Very nice playthrough :) Keep them coming. However, I think you punished yourself to much with the book icoon. It says, you have to put 2 white tokens on any island tile, and you may place them on unavailable tiles. Does this mean you can place the tokens on the half spaces, just like the fog in scenario 2? Just wondering... I did read about this on the boardgamegeek forum, but I cant find it anymore...
Super gameplay ! But some question: when i tile with fog token get flipped, that fog token should not be discarded too? This allow you to put another one thé next round on the flipped tile giving you much Time ? Need to Check !
Yeah, that is a very old purchase from a company I cannot remember and I don't think exists anymore -- it was like an early crowdfunding project if I remember correctly. It looks great but it is actually very poor quality and quite delicate. I only use a few of the better pieces that came with the set. I believe the Broken Token might have similar items or maybe Etsy. Hard to say. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I didn't notice that at the time, I was so focused on surviving the events. In editing I saw that it was hopeless. That one roll of the snow really did me in. That's how it goes on the cursed island. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@TotallyTabled That came back to the decision to let the event fall off where you didn't get to have production. Which meant you had no wood. That one decision screwed you over in the long run because of the snow. And because that was the round where you didn't get any food.
I'm so sorry, I don't remember the size (I got them like a decade ago). I think they different based on which edition of the game you have, so best to measure them. My guess is 27mm but that is only a guess. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely! You can play each scenario over and over again. I've played each one at least 5 times. The different events and encounters really keep things fresh.
I know I'm late to the party, but with the gamefound version being shipped soon, I'm watching some playthroughs and yours are amazing But wouldnt you have lost anyway, no matter the draws at the end? You had -3 morale and couldnt have handled the -3 health from the morale phase The events had no real impact? Even if the diarrhea clearly makes for a better story
Yes, I got a bit caught up in the moment and released later that it ultimately didn't matter. So I gave you the authentic experience I was having at the time, which is really the most important thing. But, yeah, my fate was sealed. Thanks for watching!

1) you get far more actions in FP
2) the event decisions you make in FP are pretty difficult/satisfying
3) I’m in the camp that perceives RC as unfair, although as you said that one might be lack of experience
oh my gosh so painful!!! 😭
I've never seen an ending quite like that in all my years playing RC. 😂 Thanks for watching, Emma.
I don't think so but let me know if you discover something else. Thanks for watching.
If you have a white block as an ash on the tile your exploring does that prevent you from production phase?
Nope, I don't believe the ash affects production. Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled your right. I got confused because cursed island senario has this rule
Oh, and I gave it to my nephews. I'm not sorry, but it seems both boxes with the supplement are just gathering dust on their shelf.
It's time...
Um, what is that wooden token holder youre using and where did you get it?
Yeah, that is a very old purchase from a company I cannot remember and I don't think exists anymore -- it was like an early crowdfunding project if I remember correctly. It looks great but it is actually very poor quality and quite delicate. I only use a few of the better pieces that came with the set. I believe the Broken Token might have similar items or maybe Etsy. Hard to say. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Thanks for watching!
You also would have died from the moral phase when you had to discard three determination tokens.
Diar... epic ending.😅
Not how I saw that one ending. Robinson Crusoe never disappoints. 😂 Thanks for checking it out!
Can I ask what size coin cases you use?
I'm so sorry, I don't remember the size (I got them like a decade ago). I think they different based on which edition of the game you have, so best to measure them. My guess is 27mm but that is only a guess. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Thanks for watching!
Is it replayable within the same scenario?
Absolutely! You can play each scenario over and over again. I've played each one at least 5 times. The different events and encounters really keep things fresh.
@@TotallyTabled thanks for answer
I know I'm late to the party, but with the gamefound version being shipped soon, I'm watching some playthroughs and yours are amazing
But wouldnt you have lost anyway, no matter the draws at the end? You had -3 morale and couldnt have handled the -3 health from the morale phase
The events had no real impact? Even if the diarrhea clearly makes for a better story
Yes, I got a bit caught up in the moment and released later that it ultimately didn't matter. So I gave you the authentic experience I was having at the time, which is really the most important thing. But, yeah, my fate was sealed. Thanks for watching!
Table size for solo play?
I play on a 3' by 4' table. Thanks for watching.
Omg I didn’t realize the green pawn from the map can be used multiple times 😮
Yep, once per round! Those extra pawns are amazing! Thanks for watching!
Is this game based on victory points?
Nope, it is a co-op where you either win or lose. If you win, they do have points you can score to see how well you won, but I always ignore that. Thanks for watching!
Watching this makes me wish Portal games can just deliver this game and not keep on making excuses every month
I'm more excited than ever. I need more excuses to play Robinson. Hopefully it arrives soon! Thanks for checking out the video!
Keep them coming! Your comment is amazing
