Fair point but I was thinking people might dismiss plays if they were made when the team was down by 5 in the ninth like “WeLl ThEy LoSt AnYwAyS” 🙄 but personally yeah I’d like to see them also
I think what is happening is they're highlighting plays and not situational baseball. However, if you listen to the announcers, they'll tell you what each play means....including whether it saves a game, avoids a high score, etc. :) My favorite part is the absolute amazement I hear from many of the announcing teams. It's fun to watch and listen to.
Top 60, after the first 40 plays without a Mullins clip, I knew he'd be all over the top 20...and he was. We need you healthy all season long in 2024, Ced. Folks can talk about his offensive dip in the 2nd half of 2023 all they want, he was still and is always CLUTCH. Everything you want in a CF. If a ball CAN be gotten, he will get it.
He was playing so tough on both sides of the ball before the nagging injuries. Was loving watching him play. He still made some absolutely electric plays after his first injury.
The only reason I'd say it shouldn't be is because it was mostly luck and he had an absolutely TERRIBLE read on the ball off the bat... Most right fielders simply make that look like a routine catch... He just happened to misplay it in a way that he needed divine intervention to be able to catch it and somehow he got it 😂... If the name of the video was luckiest catches of 2023 then it would be number 1 by a mile 😂
Amen! I was at that game and didnt know what the heck was going on on the field right away. I'm pretty sure the red sox pulled a hidden ball trick that game earlier which confused the umps for a bit and then the triple play happened not long after so we were all looking at each other in the stands trying to figure out what just happened. lol
@@GabrielAlves-kz7lb Each position player has a number, 8-3-5 is Centerfield then first base then third base for the three outs. Man the amount of ridiculously talented 20-25 year olds that are coming into the league right now is kinda insane. The next 10 years of baseball is gonna be FUN. Feels like half the plays in this list were made by rookies or 2nd year players.
Seiya Suzuki robbing a Grand Slam HR against the White Sox in the late innings of a big game for the Cubs should be in this list... Cubs had a top defense last year & rightfully should have 5 spots instead of 3
BOLD PREDICTION. If Pete Crow Armstrong 11:53 can keep his bat even just consistent enough to be an every day player he will go down as one of the greatest defensive players off all time. 13 games and far less than that on defense this year and this play is nutty. RENOWNED for his defense. Exciting stuff.
I hate it that Austin Slater’s catch from that almost no hitter from this year didn’t make it on here. I mean every time I watch that clip I’m like how the heck did he catch that
Thank you for saying this. I may or may not be biased, being a braves fan 🤣, but you’re telling me a leaping catch to rob a home run is better than an amazing catch, then another play to get the runner out??? even if you aren’t a braves fan i can assure you that that should be number 1… ALSO! let’s not forget that it was a game saving play in the 9th with only 1 out. Whoever votes whatever play is the best is clearly stupid… Sorry for the long message.
It's because it was the world series and that play is a large factor in why the Rangers won the world series... If the braves had gone on to win and then later won the world series, then it would be flipped. No one here thinks the play in a vaccum is better than the double play... But the impact it had on determining who wins the world series is what makes it #1.
Here, let me correct the title for you. The Top 60 Fielding (Almost Entirely Outfield Unless It's A Triple Play) Plays of 2023!! Seriously, how about some infield work? And how about some outfield assists?
Every time I see that Hunter Renfro no look catch I just can't believe it... He had the worst read ever on that ball off the bat, and still manages to blindly throw his glove up while facing the complete opposite direction and not looking to catch it... Probably the luckiest catch i've ever seen 😂

That being said, I'm very very proud that two of these plays I had the chance to watch happen, because they were turned by the DBacks no fly zone. Corbin Carroll and Alek Thomas. Just when you think MLB can’t milk Elly De La Cruz anymore than they have they have him 3 times on this list and make number 30 a cutoff assist to home LOL. 0 plays from the NL gold glove shortstop Dansby Swanson
The Orioles have 6 of the Top 60 plays on this list, but they easily could have 8. Anthony Santander made two ridiculous catches against the Pirates and Royals and neither of those made the list. Just saying.
I know the league is trying to distance from Wander, but to whitewash his top plays feels wrong. Particularly his bare handed grab against Houston back last April, easliy top 3 plays of the year... :/
So, the Blue Jays won three individual Gold Gloves as well as the Team Gold Glove AND they had the player with the best OAA in the Majors (who was robbed of a Gold Glove, by the way) but only TWO plays by a Blue Jays player in your top 50???
