Nitro HV Hooded Crow And Fox Control With The 17 Hornet

- I am controlling hooded crows on a hill farm to help protect sheep and lambs during lambing time in the spring. Hooded crows will pray on young lambs or even fully grown sheep who can get stuck on their backs when heavily pregnant unable to protect themselves. The crows will generally go for the soft tissue areas like the eyes tongue and anus and i have seen the damage they can do myself, this wont kill the sheep right away but will leave it weak and injured with a long suffering death unless found by the farmer.
Magpies and crows will also take any eggs or fledglings of ground nesting birds that they find.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.

Rifle CZ 527 Varmint .17 Hornet

Great Video David, what a tool that 17 Hornet is for that job:-)
Thanks i really enjoy using it.
Great video as usual.. That .17 hornet is definitely the tool for the job
Great shooting David and a great video untill next time take care
Good bit vermin control Nice bag of crows Davie I agree the shot on the fox should have been a wee bit further forward but we've all done it mate it was still a lethal shot so job well done keep the vids coming mate.
Thanks very much for that.
Outstanding David. Really enjoyed that, The weather in the UK is so rubbish that we haven't been able to get out much. Looking forward to more from you soon. 🙂
Yeah same here in Northern Ireland but hopefully i'll get out over the holidays after the grays.
Weather still crap😅
Well done David give yourself a pat on the back.
Thanks very much.
Another excellent video. Your hand loads are proving extremely accurate and that’s a very good mornings result. Just love your 17 Hornet videos so hope to see more.
Always good footage and commentary great stuff
Thanks a lot.
Great mornings work. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching.
I use a 17 Rem a lot for this job.
Very effective.!
I was having a bit of trouble with the rifle not picking bullets up every time, it was the spring under the base plate getting a bit weak, a new one sorted it out.
The 17 rem would be a lot more effective on the foxes too, i might have been getting a bit of rim lock or something since the 17 Hornet is a rimed cartridge but ordering a spire mag might be a good idea as well.
Absolutely love these videos with the Hornet, my mate loves his and has a pile of brass, he would give you, mostly Hornady and Sellior and Bellot!
Do some ratting for us David. You had a cracking time on the crows, well done pal!
Check out the latest video on my other channel HuntersVermin.

Amaizing jop,, I will never hesitate to subscribe to your channel.
it was a youngish fox and strong full of adrenaline an older fox would have dropped sooner, and they are best out of the way they cause to much damage around farms so hats of to you bud..
Thanks.
Fair play pal that's a brilliant bag on any day, I'm binge watching your videos as some how Iv missed the last 5 including this one, anyway keep up the good work and happy hunting pal
Thanks very much, sounds like youtube isn't promoting my stuff very well, views are way down compared to this time last year.

Thanks and i'll try.
Cracking video David
Thanks.
What do you do with the feathers
great job very enjoyable I will try similar ( In Ireland )
Have fun!
What powder do you use in your hand loads and how many grains?
At the moment im using Vectan sp3 as it was the only powder i could get at the time but it seems to work. I cant tell you my load as i don't want you to blow yourself up but i started small and worked my way up slowly as it doesn't take much of a change in powder load to make a big change in speed with these small calibers.
Great job there 👍
Thanks 👍
Excellent video, what would you use if you didnt have a rabbit to help decoy them in with?
Well if you didn't have anything dead like a rabbit or squirrel you could try a loaf of bread but you need to be quick as the birds like to grab a piece and go, i have also used a fake birds nest made out of raffia grass with some eggs in it in the spring and also a lamb stuffed toy which worked once.
@@NitroHVill give that bread tip a whirl thanks for getting back to me!
Hi David, missing your videos and your sure laconic style - hope your back soon?
You’re still reloading? Can you find primers over there? Over hear in Canada I haven’t seen any in about a year.
Yeah we can still get primers thankfully but as last while every time i go to get more powder i have to buy a different brand which means redoing your load development. Its just what ever the gun shops can get in stock and i think we can only buy around 500g at a time here.
@@NitroHV powders aren’t too hard to find. Sometimes they don’t have what you want, but we’re allowed to mail order, so we can shop around. I bought 3lbs of my fav pistol powder a couple months ago …..but primers literally haven’t been seen for over 6 months. Our club got a pile of them then, so I bought 1000 large and 1000 small pistol primers, and now I wish I bought more.
I just bought a Swedish converted 9.3x57 Mauser and probably won’t be able to shoot it for god knows how long. Anyway, I love the channel, glad when I see them. I was born here in canada, to Irish parents (Belfast) and spent a few summers there when I was young with my grandma. So it’s nice to see the farms and hear the accent, and your humour is so like our families. The whole pest control thing is interesting and weirdly relaxing.
Fantastic morning work David. Is that 17Vmax the same as the 17 HMR with a larger load. Just waiting for a break barrel 17HMR to go on my FAC. Have you tried the 20g hollow points at all.
Im not sure if there is any difference in the bore size between the 17 HMR and the 17 Hornet but the 17 HMR is based off the 22 WMR and the 17 Hornet is based on the 22 Hornet case so takes a lot more powder than the HMR. im using the 20gr Vmax at the minute and i've tried the 20gr Nosler but not the hollow points yet.
Hi David, can I ask what powders and loads do you use, I'm just looking at a 17 hornet and want to reload my own loads. Love your videos
At the moment im using Vectan sp3 as it was the only powder i could get at the time but it seems to work. I cant tell you my load as i don't want you to blow yourself up but i started small and worked my way up slowly as it doesn't take much of a change in powder load to make a big change in speed with these small calibers.

Looking to purchase a 17 hornet any suggestions
As far as i can remember the only manufactures are Savage, CZ, Weihrauch and Anschutz. The Weihrauch and Anschutz are the best built but not very common and can be expensive, the Savage and CZ are the most common makes but the CZ 527 is the most popular as they shoot really well but CZ stopped making them and they have nothing chambered in their line to replace it.
Lovely guy enjoyed his efforts.but not really sure if that's what happened when he went wandering of to crows and fox.surely he shouldn't be leaving his rifle in the hide.not safe practice.
Cracking day 👍
Thank you.
Hi David, I don't think you are being soft at all re the Fox, which sort of gate-crashed when you weren't particularly gunning for one. I could tell you were a bit contrite over the shot. However, that Rifle and those Shells make a fantastic job of the Crows, so please keep up the good work, protecting Farmstock and ground-nesting birds.
Thanks very much for that.
With all respect the fox did seem to suffer awhile.....
English subtitles would be helpful
😂
What no squeaky voice 😂
Ah i just wasn't in the mood.
What model are youse shooting also the English let youse have rifles
Oh ok cz great rifle
