Even though i'm touching 40 i'm glad i was there for music like this when it was first released. The 90's created possibly the best time for music and club culture.....
This song brings back happy memories, and takes me instantly to a happy place...I've even heard it in my dreams over the years. Unforgettably great song.
Perhaps...I feel like Surrender lives up to its name by fearlessly allowing themselves to go full on into the different things they were doing. It was like they had the raw edge in EPD, combined with more knowledge, experience, toys, studio time and collaboration with other musicians.
Sounds like the birthing of a star...the star collapses upon itself due to it's own gravity and then...BAM...out comes Chico's Groove. Love these guys!
This got HEAVY rotation at the Art Bar in Columbia,SC in '94-'95 thanks to Robert Rhame, best damned bartender in the world!!!! I used to love patroling the dance floor when this was on. Great times, my fave album of this genre. Thanks fer the memories!!!! Robert, where are you now, brother??
Slowed Jesus Jones sample at 1:10. *Epic track* maybe not the most famous but equal (for me) to The Prodigy's Claustrophobic Sting, which again didn't get the attention, but is epic. I have fond memories of dropping acid and ecstasy to both....a combination I'll never forget lol
My friend and I (huge chems fans) didn't think much of Surrender when it came out. Dropped some bombs and were like...eh, it's ok. Then railed some k and HOLY FUCK!!!! These guys are geniuses!!! They ain't called the chemical brothers for nothing!
@pintofnewcastle I wouldn't say they got "progressively worse", they just tried new sounds and styles. Different albums for different moods. If they'd done the same thing over and over, it'd get boring for us and most importantly, for them. I'm glad they're still making music, because every album has at least one absolutely perfect song on it. "Swoon" from Further, "A Modern Midnight Conversation" from We Are the Night, "Star Guitar" from Come With Us, "Let Forever Be" from Surrender.
It's definitely not a matter of "we got old" because they certainly changed their style after Dig. They have a uniform sound still. I tend to characterize the Brothers by their use of synth drones and electronic ambiance, and they've kept that sort of sound throughout their output. The only difference is that they've changed their beat patterns. But yeah Further was pretty damn good. I still don't have WATN but I don't much care for Push the Button, save for a couple of tracks.
Slept on this for years, new one day it would play and it would be magic, and it is, I listened before, but now I can hear it, love this style music, crystal method and other brothers stuff, started it after work and was like shit, this is soo fucking good, so good I had to let you all know, but you know that of course. Love life.
@tommpson i feel it! i think that they are just trying new things, with their newest album "Further". They are only exploring with their sounds and i bet you that they will come back to Rock those Blocks with their beats. And im ready..
I sort of agreed at one point. I think it's just them growing as well as us. They have changed in the way they want to sound and the sounds they like. This has happened to me with a few other musicians too. Felt that they are losing that non-commercial free thought. I dunno, some of their new stuff is AMAZING too, like Swoon for example. I think they've just become a lot tighter in terms of music, over the years.
@pintofnewcastle I'm with you on that as much as I love the other albums, they have got progressive worse BUT Surrender was a work of genius, maybe after that we saw a big drop off, with all possible respect
Couldn't disagree more. Every new album I expect to be the one where they get shitty and then I end up loving it. Maybe you just like this album because it relates to a period in your life, and none of those future albums coincided with a time that felt as good. No matter how good or bad my life has been I've always loved the Chemical Brothers, they universally make me happy.
No one's gonna slaughter you for that. I agree with you. The first two albums seriously rocked, but the next stuff has gone worse, like I hate those tunes Galvanize and Do It Again. Come With Us and Push the Button albums still do have killer tunes, but the style is different.
Does this song remind anyone else of a computer game called Sky Roads? Every time i hear this or play that (many many years ago) it connects for me. Its just the atmosphere of the song.
@verapamil07 Haha, I'm only seventeen years old so I'd consider that quite young ;) But yeah, usually some artist are at their best when they start. The Prodigy's second album is the best, Chemicals' first three are awesome and the following albums are like 50 % good, 50 % nahh. Further was kind of cool though. I hated it at first but it was definitely a grower.
I'm fifteen, i love The Chemical Brothers. I hate the stupid music from this generation like Justin Bieber, Rebecca Black, well all that shit. If i had been lived my teenage in the 90's, that had been awesome. I'm from Colombia and in this country all my fucking generation listen many shit. I'm disappointed. Further was the most great album that i listened, later i listened Exit Planet Dust, Dig your own hole... I changed totally. Thanks to The Chemical Brothers for all the amazing music.
@pintofnewcastle I don't think that their older stuff is necessarily better, I just think that you probably have positive memories attached to the older albums, and you've gotten older since then and the crazy, epic memories are happening less frequently than they used to. The Chems really don't have a bad record... all of their stuff has been top notch, but it's all different. Their newest LP goes back to the super psychedelic shit they started with, but way better than they could do before.
@pintofnewcastle So true, but Im not so sure if its that the music is getting worse, or that the style of music in general is sounding worse. Time isnt kind to all music. I think most of the Ninties music suffers from this. Not a great decade for music at all. I dont think Exit Planet Dust would have blown many minds if it was released today.
@tommpson I agree with you both 102% But as musicians they need to develop. But I think the bottom line is that we guys are just getting old and conservative haha
Thanks Dylan
54 years young and still love this so much.
i miss you.
goosebumps, this whole album is so highly underrated it should be a crime.
Not by me.
Even though i'm touching 40 i'm glad i was there for music like this when it was first released. The 90's created possibly the best time for music and club culture.....
90’s music in all its myriad genres was untouchable… what a freaking time to be alive, and young.
@@christopherblosser9387 FYI- 80's was AWESOME.
Me too
This song brings back happy memories, and takes me instantly to a happy place...I've even heard it in my dreams over the years. Unforgettably great song.
I miss these Chemical Bros.
I feel Exit Planet Dust was their bet album. Totally raw and non commercial.
you might be right alex, dig your own hole also amazing i might add.
Perhaps...I feel like Surrender lives up to its name by fearlessly allowing themselves to go full on into the different things they were doing. It was like they had the raw edge in EPD, combined with more knowledge, experience, toys, studio time and collaboration with other musicians.
Exit Planet Dust and Surrender are masterpieces.
A real masterpiece…along with prodigy, the chems have consistently made the dance music I like. Gracias amigos and Jah bless.
Sounds like the birthing of a star...the star collapses upon itself due to it's own gravity and then...BAM...out comes Chico's Groove. Love these guys!
are YOU under the influence?!
he's under the influence of Chico
This got HEAVY rotation at the Art Bar in Columbia,SC in '94-'95 thanks to Robert Rhame, best damned bartender in the world!!!! I used to love patroling the dance floor when this was on. Great times, my fave album of this genre.
Thanks fer the memories!!!! Robert, where are you now, brother??
the MOST amazing song from exit planet dust. I mean, alive alone kick asses and Leave Home is a classic, but this track, well it just make my day.
i listen to this everyday before school helps me have more optimism in my life =] THANK YOU CHEMICAL BROTHERS =]
:)
oh god this is such a good song. this is probably my favorites on this album
Top 10 songs of all time. Beyond mind-blowing.
Maybe my favorite Chemical Brothers track. That bassline and weird groaning synth part kill it.
spot on.
there's magick in this musick...
So beautifull, relaxing and engaging at the same time
I still wanna know who Chico is... he must be one cool dude, right? This song is fantastic... so good go to listen to it again.
Every time i think i cant go back to the 90s i hear an album like this and i just laugh/cry/move...and I'm all better. God just listen to this track!
Check it out, it's their first album and it's the best of them all!
Bassline, synth, 303 , and break beat, great voice sample, whate else could you ask for ?
Has aged really well after 25 years .. blimey I'm getting old. Still love the Acid Rave on 😎
This was always my favourite track on the album! Thanks!

That's what made me look this up Dylan in the yearbooks I like the beat though reminds me of rave and x lol
Perfect wind down song to be sent happily to the after party!!!!
saved my life
Chemical Brothers kick ass all the time.

That's why their first 2 records are the best. I don't like anything after dig your own hole.
This album is somethin else... So underrated!!
These comments have just taught me that one of my favourite chemical brothers tracks is also a mass murderer’s favourite track. Damn.
Whell you're not alone
Wow, I just found this out. Apparently he was a big chemical brother's fan. How could you not be!
God damn it I miss being a teen in the 90's! 😭

One comes in mind when I 1st heard this way back in 94'/95' and that is...
'BEAUTIFUL' still sounds as fresh as it did back then, nice.
Brings back memories......
My favorite jam
Original music. I like it!
Stoned out of head in summer 1996 memories..
@tommpson agreed. viva la old chemical brothers!
Amazing!! Song..

'Surrender' WAS awesome. So was 'Dig Your Own Hole'. But this is what it's all about.
@pintofnewcastle I'm with you on that as much as I love the other albums, they have got progressive worse BUT Surrender was a work of genius, maybe after that we saw a big drop off, with all possible respect
oldschool :D
many people don't like music that is unique... it's pretty sad.
Good music can be so easy. 😊

yes, they got old. im young and a think ChB are maybe different but deffinetly not worse.
Their finest hour?
I agree with you, though Galvanise was a return to good form in my opinion.
