Is there any danger of them bringing out a new model anytime soon as I’m contemplating one of these but am interested in your thoughts of this over the fender please. I don’t want to spend this amount of money then quad cortex gets replaced with a new model straight away as I’m aware it’s been out a while. Is this the best modeller? I am using a boss gx100 at the moment but want the ultimate
Finally!
Do you have your typical gig set up on cortex cloud? And What's your cortex cloud name?
Just so you know you can turn off the auto assign stomp from the device settings :)
@@ThePainter1989 go try it and let me know how it goes. I'll be here when you get back not being able to do it still 😄🙃. Its in their video, but not in the update...
looks like line 6 dent it?
I honestly got the QC because I hate editing on the computer lol. However, for those that are use to having a desktop editor this is awesome. Would love to see Leon Todd’s thoughts on this now. Great video thanks again!
Same. I hate editing on the computer and menu diving. That’s why I got the QC.
Lol same here, even on my Hx stomp I edit almost everything right on the pedal
I’ve spent an hour with it and I am very, very happy. I encountered one little bug with the mixer, but there was a workaround. Otherwise it has been a blast editing my presets and just messing around. Very very happy so far. Great job Neural!
What did I win!?
I don't know if you got a spam comment, but there is nothing to win other than your happiness in editing on desktop 😅🤣
Awesome! I was reluctant to buy a Quad Cortex because of no desktop editor. Now that it’s out I am ordering one. Game changer.
You may have figured it out as well by now but another way you can remove footswitch assignments is by:
- right clicking the block
- select "Assign Footswitch"
- deselect the yellow highlighted letter
Love your content. Joe
The Desktop Edition looks beautiful, and the way you flew through creating a Preset from scratch was impressive, and looked very easy and intuitive. I wouldn't be surprised if the release of the Fender TMP lit a fire under Neural to release the Beta. Slow and steady loses the race, so it's best not to drag your feet in this age of rapid innovation.
They announced that the beta would be released today quite a while ago.
Thanks! Yeah this date was planned for a few months now
This has been the greatest thing this year so far. The speed and efficiency of editing on my desktop is like 10x fast for my workflow
Stoked on this!
I was messing with it when it came out earlier today and so far I love it.
Agreed. I downloaded the beta yesterday and it worked easily and without any issues.
Neural did a great job of building an app that doesn't have a million bugs out the box. I realize that it is a bit late to the game but they did save us from having to be beta testers the whole time. Can't say that about alot of other gear I have purchased that was new to market. I like being able to use the stuff without getting a headache. I love how streamlined this app is with the cortex. My only thing right away is not having a link to the cloud app side so I can select and download items. Hopefully they will add that ability later it's not really a deal breaker just makes me have to open a separate screen to review and download new patches. I like the preview ability that is really cool. They are keeping with their promises so far which is really good. I'm sure that the compatibility with the plugins is coming soon that seems to be one of the big list items that people gripe about. I am new to the Quad Cortex and so far I don't have many complaints. I am definitely enjoying it even more with the ability to use the desktop app to navigate and create my own patches.
I know it’s taken a while for cortex to get to this point but I sold mine then repurchased it. It’s so much better now. Can you imagine how good the next cortex will be In a few more years after everything learnt from the first QC!
Well, I hope we see that future on THIS qc 😅
@@SteveSterlacci agreed. The more companies compete the more it’s pushing innovation
@@SteveSterlaccihere here +1 THIS
It took a long time, but man this looks great 🎉
Absolutely!
Drop it! *shatter*
😂😂😂 Killed me dude. Great video! I’ve been waiting to see a desktop editor for QC. Now I really really want one again.
Keep bringing the content Steve. I really value your opinion.
Ha! Yeah, I agree with you... my biggest gripe is that goofy auto-assigning of switches to new effects. When I create a new patch, I want to drop my "pedals" down and then assign AS NEEDED!
I was critical as well and sold my QC because it didn't happen fast enough with the editor. I prefer a desktop editor and my Kemper was / is doing fine. Now that prices have also dropped (probably because of the Tone Master release) just might pick one up again once the bugs are all worked out. I like the layout!
Thank you, Steve!
When I saw the announcement in the email my first thought was, "finally I can actually use my QC". I'm with you, workflow matters, I hate how slow and clunky touchscreens are. If I have to sit and tweak things for ten minutes, that's ten minutes I'd rather be playing. By the time I've got the patch set up, I've lost my creative flow. Thank you for hammering on this with Neural, this is a huge deal for many of us.
Great, but I will wait for main release once most of the bugs are gone. But this looks amazing. I can finally put this in my rack at home and off my living room floor where my cat likes to yack.
agree 100% plus, the always on tuner must come to the unit for live
I totally agree about touchscreens! Line 6, please don't think you need to have one on your next modeler!
yes, but touch screen is good if you need to make a change on the fly, which in turn could be used if you are using someone else's cab or using different pa's at different venues. desktop though is the clear ruler
so @SteveSterlacci - How do you feel about your video from about a month ago "Why I still don't gig the Quad Cortex..."
I'm considering the step from Stomp to QC, but I'm - I guess like you - sooo comfortable with the Line6 userflow that I don't want to just get frustrated with a different device, for the sake of having a different device.
Bout fuckin time!!! Now this thing might start to sell like it should...
We will see!!
Totally agreeing on the auto-assign thing...
I agree 1000% on auto assign. To me my first scene E, not A.
Hit that submit feedback button in the top left :) No auto assign footswitches
They won't listen
Very important is it enables the qc to use the computers network connection as many have complained about the poor Wi-Fi service n the qc
Thats HUGE!
Well it would be huge if it worked …my laptop has 5 bar signal but the qc is running at 2 bars (although it was one before ) but I expected better
@franki68 thats a huge bummer
This is great to see. I'm also a fan of ease of use and workflow, and not having the editor was one reason why I haven't looked at the QC seriously. Definitely curious and for the record there is a tuner in the Fractal edit software.
Amazing what competition does
9:02 - YES. I really dont get why people want touchscreens. They suck and are maybe good for an iphone. Mouse and keyboard are so much faster!
Yeah! I’m sure I’ll use the QC more now.
@3:40 You CAN do that on the Fender TMP anywhere you want on the chain. After you click the Add Block icon along the bottom screen option in a preset, you just need to click the actual + box icon along the line where you want it to be added. Not sure why you were having an issue with it.
From what I've been trying for the last few days, you can only add to the beginning and end of the chain, then have to drag it to where you want. I am still getting used to it, so it could be something I am missing. Will look into it!
@@SteveSterlacci yea I noticed in the vid. I think the issue is you didn't click Add Block icon at bottom. That will put an + in between every clock along the entire signal path. You then just click the + in the location you want and the block gets added right there... Just like you can in QC. Just looks a different format 😉
@@SteveSterlacci keep up all the good work 👍👍
100 percent agree with the auto assign feature! Please stop Neural! Its more time consuming to unassign a footswitch and then have to reassign every 👏 single 👏 time 👏
The fractal stuff definitely has a tuner in the computer editing software. I’m sure the helix did too? Fact check false.
Yeah, Lane 2 for me too!
1) No auto-assign footswitch...Yes please!
2) Output Row 1 to Input Row 2...Yes please!
and one more for you...
3) User options to change the way you switch Modes! Having to select Preset Down/Tuner at the same time to change mode is my major gripe with the QC; the risk of changing Preset by mistake rather than changing Mode is just way to high to make this of any use at all... YES PLEASE!
Steve I'm confused about something and I'm hoping your will take a couple minutes to help me. I've posted this on the forum and received no answer so far. When I'm in Hybrid mode, and make the top Row ABCD foot pedals and the EFGH my scenes, my editor will not show the ABCD as pedals. It says they are scenes and does crazy things when I click on them on the screen (editor) Can you confirm your unit does the same thing?. This seems like a major snafu?
I still haven’t bought a modler , I’m considering this or if kemper bring out a new machine
Auto assign a footswitch is cool to prevent more distracted people to be lost...its the same effort if you want to reassign... keep it to avoid frustration to less tech people
I won't fight this battle for you 🤣. If you bought a high tech piece, you shouldn't need an auto assign
I see these units expanding to have preferences similar to daws in the future. Perhaps that could be a preference you can activate or deactive on the preferences menu. Good video, very informative thank you@@SteveSterlacci
👏👏👏
Boss GT-1000 does the Tuner on screen. The interface is good. Nothing though that makes me say I need a QC over my HX/Helix stuff. I think the auto assign is to help the folks who might be a little tech averse, so I get that. Great info though and it looks great, but 3 years (?) from talk to Beta is a little much. I think it doesn't bode well for development going forward. I think the going to row 2 at minimum should be a dialog that asks if you want to shift things if there are open blocks or go to the new row.
I like to get really familiar with the unit and how to do everything... And then I almost always use HX Edit. So much faster.
Same!
"using a touchscreen is not that great" EXACTLY - go Fractal! LOL sorry I had to. Seriously tho, it's nice to see the QC really start to get these features.
It's awesome ... however I experienced some annoying issues with low hum and static interferens when connected - and I tried three different usb cables with the same result. Have anyone else noticed that?
In stomp mode on the editor can you just drag whats in a footswitch and move it to another? Looks like you can. Getting my cortex tomorrow.
Couldn't agree more. Desktop editor >>>> touchscreen
I really don’t get the overwhelming joy with having to rig your unit up to a computer to tweak it…
Fractal has the tuner in Software longer than the QC exists
Be sure to click the feedback button in top left and let them know that we the people need row 2 ❤
THISSSS
If I remember correctly, neural said going from row 1 to row 2 doesn't take advantage of the quad core processor, this would use up more processing power and you can't add more blocks that you might want. I have this for me and the bass player in my band, yeah it's a bit quirky with going to row 3 from row 1, but wasn't a big deal for me, though I know for most it's a workflow preference.
@multimike2030 i understand that and do the same with helix. No one ever complains lol we are using a split path as a workaround but its just annoying to do
Hi Steve, does Neural introduced any option to protect the accidental press of the preset switch button next to the tap tempo?
Another question for live use : if you are on Tuner screen, do the other buttons work or are disabled?
now we just need a bunch of effects
The one thing I hate about modelers is not being able to swap the Tuner and Tap around.. I do not use the tap at all. I want to be able to push the button for the tuner NOT hold the button...
I think this should have been done before it was ever released
Would you now recommend the Qc over the Fractal FM3 Turbo?
Id pick qc over fm3, but fm9 is a diff conversation!
How does the QC connect to desktop? Through the wifi or do you need a wire connector from QC to PC?
Lets goooo
It’s either raining or your computer fan is very loud.
Maybe you're listening too closely 🫣
So can you actually play real time through the editor? Or is is strictly a GUI to kick things over to the QC? Curious if it has utility for people who don’t own a QC. I have one but it would be sweet to test drive tones before wasting time kicking it over to my QC.
Its only a controller for the hardware
You should use the submit feedback button for those things 😂
Can you use editor from Ipad?
Correction: the Fractal editor has a tuner as well.
Thanks for adding! I wasnt sure off the top of my head
So does the Boss Core
Can you not afford a music stand for your QC in the studio?? Lol great content as always😊
Whats a music stand do?! 🫣🫣🫣
Is this real time? Does it update the QC as you edit the parameters on the desktop?
It is real and fluid with all adjustments
And 2000% on Lane 1 to Lane 2. I have no idea why this was t in place on day 1.
is it possible to use the quadcortex software without the quad cortex device?
i have a powerful pc than can do the job?
Unfortunately no. They offer plug ins, but not version of quad cortex in plug in form
Touchscreens on floor units should be forbidden. Ever seen what happens if you spill a fluid on a touchscreen? Can you imagine what happens if someone spills beer on your touchscreen while playing? The unit will survive, but the software will go all over the place! I have a thick piece of acrylic glass on my Helix' screen to protect it from breaking and I would do the same to any touchscreen if I were ever to buy a unit that has one (can't afford it right now, though :-D) QC is starting to look more and more attractive to me.....
Will I be able to use it on my iPad Pro at some point?
Only if apple allow a full os to run on it. they are being stuborn on it tho I'm assuming they are not wanting it to cannibalize sales of the mac book thats the only logic I could see in them not allowing it at this point wich is very frustrating.
I don’t know much about this system, as you know. This actually makes me want to try it because now it looks so much easier to navigate around.
Honestly I’m holding out. I feel like Line 6 is going to break down with a whole new system because they have held up their game with the Helix family for a good while now.
QC goes fractal… But better
Nothings harder to use than fractal
@@SteveSterlacci so True
Isn't the reason for lane splitting because 1 & 2 share DSP and 3 & 4 share DSP? Is the annoyance just a visual thing or something else?
I split 2 guitarists in our live show. I want 2 lanes for each player.
@@SteveSterlacci ah okay, isn't that how it can work now though?
EG1 lanes 1 & 2, EG2 lanes 3 & 4? Or do you want Input 1 to go to lane 1 and input 2 to go to lane 2 and just use 3 & 4 as needed?
Not trying to come across argumentative, curious how others use the QC. I have all lanes to myself but if ever needed I like to get the use cases when using multiple players.
@dstproducer1 its unfortunately not how it works. You can't connect lane 1 to lane 2 without a splitter. On every other unit, you can send the top row to the second row without any workaround. They want you to use lanes 1 and 3 for a single guitar, and 2 and 4 for the second guitar I guess. Its weird that we can't make that decision as the player. Your questions are great! Keep them coming
@@SteveSterlacci Ooooh, yeah okay that is annoying. I didn't realize input 1 is lanes 1 & 3. That would drive me nuts lol. Appreciate the info!
Just so you know, you can turn off the auto assign to stomp from the device settings :)
Unfortunately not. Try it and let me know how it goes 😅. Its in their video. But not our lives
I don't believe it... Must be click bait. 🤨
It's real!
well I sold my QC two years ago...
No more whining 😂😂😂😂
NO MORE AUTO ASIGN !!! I agree, is annoying.
I made it a few minutes without whining 🤣😅
I agree. Touch screens are overated. Desktop editor with mouse or knobs is always better. I really really really hope Line 6 don't join the touch screen squad in their inveitable hardware update of the helix.
The one thing you keep complaining about and asking to be implemented (footswitch auto-assignment) is literally an option you can turn off in the device settings (Stomp mode bypass assignment)
Yes it is! I just learned this myself in this update 😁
Well, unfortunately this is not true. It does appear in their video run through, but that must be a beta build. I went to try it and there are a few things that do not line up with their video... tragic. The complaining continues...
You're right, it's only in their video but not there on mine as well - hopefully it will be there when they release the software, Pretty shitty on them to demo something that isn't actually there yet...
@devnull5109 I wish I could say I'm surprised lol i do appreciate how far theyve come and continue to improve. I am hoping this will be live when the update is officially released
I agree with the foot switch auto assign. Annoying.
The worst
They waited until the tonemaster came out with one to lmao
To be fair, it was announced months ago that this date was gonna launch the beta
WOW A DESKTOP EDITOR AFTER 2 YEARS. THEY SHOULD COME OUT WITH UPDATED TO MAKE THAT PIECE OF DIGITAL CRAP SOUND BETTER. THROW IT OUT
You know, caps lock doesnt make your point sir. It makes it seem like you're shouting. Please lower your voice
I think QC might be more "durable" than a Fx3, since probably a new fx will be released soon, but man, that QC development is f*king slow...
Yes. Please stop auto-assigning🙏
Frank grillo
Ok
You can now turn off automatic footswitch assignment! (go to 22:17)

@@SteveSterlacci Drat. At least it's on their radar, maybe?
@@bobmitchell1970 hopefully when it becomes an official release. Maybe the beta is just for the desktop
Bye Bye Auto Assign
We can only hope
Only took them 2 years and it's still in beta. LOL
Too little too late.
Tone Master Pro does have a Bassman. You obviously didn't do the day 1 firmware update. There was a lot of stuff added with that. Please make sure you give a product a legit review. As someone who does review or at the very least give people your opinion of new products, you must ensure you give the product a proper look. You may still not like it but at least it is fair. Honestly Neural DSP had years to do a desktop editor that Fender and pretty much everyone else had (not Headrush) on day 1. I mean Neural DSP raised the price of the QC a few months after release and then lowered the price to compete with Fender and then magically released a desktop editor that they have been dangling over peoples noses like a carrot for years. I gave up on them long ago. ill give Fender a legit shot and see how the Tone Master Pro matures.
With all due respect, don't come at people with condescending attitudes when you aren't watching their videos. The first thing I did was update firmware and in my first video I tell you that. Second, I am talking about the 6g6b '63 bassman or even a '65 ab165 (both heads only). The only bassman is a '59 tweed combo. They are not nearly the same at all. Please make sure you have all your points relevant and accurate before making speeches about legitimacy ...
You said bassman. Just replying to what I heard. There is a bassman that was added with the firmware update. There will be more added. Not everyone watches all your videos. I really didn't mean to be condescending just responding to what you said. If you specified the bassman you wanted that's cool.
@johnlynn5992 i did say '64 bassman, and pointed to the one behind me. We are cool. If I read into your comment too much and it wasn't meant to be condescending, then thats my bad, but it definitely reads as pretty harsh at me. Im always down for conversation and I appreciate you coming back to talk about it. And thanks for clicking and watching. I hope our next engagement is smoother on all ends 😃.
@@SteveSterlacci Hey Steve. Yeah reading my comment again, I guess it was a bit harsh, apologies. At the end of the day it's all about playing, and having fun doing it. Looking forward to more of your content. Just subbed to your channel.
I disagree on your routing row 1 to line 2 "issue". That's where you're annoying :P
I will see you on the battlefield. And I better not catch you using lane 2 when it comes 😅🤣🤣🤣. That bit is because i run 2 guitarists rigs through my helix and like to have 2 paths for each
Too little, too late...maybe?
Shouldn't have sold my QC 2 weeks ago!!! Oh wait...doesn't matter anyway, Kemper is still king 😂
Hey, I won't blame ya at all for that! As long as you're happy. I wanna try kemper!
@@SteveSterlacci people say it's outdated. I mean the screen on the unit may be, but it's easy to navigate on the Kemper Stage. And since the addition of Liquid Profiles, it made it even more awesome. The market place is very nice as well with the ability to try things out before adding them to your unit. Its pretty much what the QC should have had to begin with.
@@XSUFFOKATEX i hope I get one eventually!
Kemper? that ugly thing? 😄
@@nathan-dudeman the toaster is ugly, but the Stage is beautiful and wayyyy more legit. Why do I want to step on encoders and potentially damage the unit just to send it back...hellllll no!!! Kemper is a tank and sounds way more organic btw
Ya’ll must used to him because he was wearing me out with all that whining, dude just click the [multi out] at the end of the roll and guest what pops up a “menu” but not this guy let the whining begin anyway the only good info he gave was about the Os (CorOs: 2.2.2) for the software to work properly but not before whining started he should work on that delivery
