My left TMJ disc has been dislocated for 10 years since I was 11. I have gone to two specialists, neither of which could help me. Within two days of mewing the joint has gone back into place and for the first time since I can remember I can open and close my mouth without it popping out. I am astounded how a simple change of habit can make such a difference. Dr. Mew is right that TMD can make life almost unbearable sometimes, but finally finding something that has helped has given me so much relief I am almost emotional. Thank you John and Mike Mew, you have given me so much.
Same here! I'm 18 now, at the age of 13 I chewed a very hard substance that dislocated the tmj and recently I've been mewing and monitoring my third tongue posture, my tmj pop has been slowing
Hi dr mike mew ,thanks for this superbly informative video on Tmd. Pl keep education of the global orthodontists for benefit of their patients your top priority .
I have a question It's like my muscle are tired and flat after having tmj ,and my face seems very tired and have droopy eyelid It can be fix ? ,i'm very afraid that my face rest like this 😢
YOURE THE MAN I had TMJ problems from my 15 to my 18, i didi so many specialists but noone have been able to fix it, until my 19. Too few expert know about those problems and the causes. Now: i have a really clear assymetry and my jaw grew "longer" and not "larger". I had also so much pain i couldnt get on my feet somedays. Well, the job you're doing is pushing me to stop my studies to become orthodontist.
How did you overcome this, recently I discovered I had this, from when I turned 15 I am now 19 I didn’t realise over time my jaw had actually receded, give me some tips on how to overcome it bro

I reversed my hair loss by learning to wiggle my scalp and ears, and developing strength and control in these muscles and their connection to the clavicles and the body at large. The problem is mechanical/circulatory, as are most conditions that medicine reduces to chemistry so it can sell chemicals. Forest for the trees. I am learning to apply your principles.
@@Brian-dq2jc I started just raising and lowering my eyebrows, wrinkling my forehead and releasing. Eventually I could make my whole scalp kind of jump around by flexing and releasing. Doing this in front of a mirror I could see my ears move sympathetically with my scalp, so I focused on isolating that movement from my eyebrows at around the temple. It took releasing some tense neck muscles over time for me, and I am still not good at just ears. This might be why I still have a bit of a widow's peak though closed on top. Yes, male pattern. I've been fighting a winning fight for about 15 years. If I neglect the exercises for a few months it starts to thin, but I can always thicken it back up in as much time by doing these exercises all throughout the day. Now I am working on incorporating that movement more into my regular facial expressions so it gets done without me having to always remember or look like a weirdo randomly wiggling my hair.
@@jacobsaintjames That is revolutionary. The ability to wiggle ears is primitive, it is useless as we no longer use much of our body language, wiggling your ears back is often done to hear things more precisely like other mammals.
@Ben Riley I've used the protocol successfully, though I only paid $50 for the e-book before the current version + forum were released. It's the real deal. This guy figured out the etiology of hair loss. Take a look at the pictures on the website, JD Moyer's blog post on it, and the free articles on Perfect Hair Health. The protocol is essentially changing your diet to be in line with evidence-based nutrition that's been around for years (à la Weston A. Price Foundation) and a vigorous scalp massage technique done twice a day for at least 6 months, and sometimes longer.
I started wearing a splint and immediately stopped having a headache. My muscles relaxed and my bite got into a better position. I am still under treatment but so happy that for the first time in 3 years i don not have a headache.
Just watched the video and know it's an old video, but when you said splints would take up space for where the tongue would go it kinda means the person wasnt clenching their teeth. The tongue position if they are clenching and grinding would be the same with splints but not with the joint relaxed, so a splint is a win win.
@@criticalthinking982 still having the issue - looking at some treatments at the moment - got a very tough mouth guard for bjj training which has been useful, but only addresses symptom - will see what the treatment says
Great presentation! I would disagree or also say as far as the causes of TMJD...it is not limited to clenching/self-imposed causes, but most often and commonly caused by poor dentistry (as some in the comments below have experienced as well). For a jaw problem, I went to see my doctor and it is the first time a doctor referred me to a dentist, which I thought was odd. (I think the doctor(s) know the problems have to do with dentistry). In my case I was advised about 10 years ago by a dentist that I needed a crown in my lower left jaw, so I conceded that the dentist must know what they're doing...(although it took a second phone call to insurance to get authorization for coverage by the dentist??) So I wonder what transpired there (and if the crown was really necessary in the first place?) I know how molds work and if the mold is not right the permanent replacement will not be right. With my mouth full of equipment and my dentist chatting to their hygienist I could not get their attention to say I felt the crown mold was sitting too high. Over the years and all the dentists I've seen, not one would concur that the crown was sitting too high. I finally saw on my own Pan X-ray that my molars on the left were flush/touching but the molars on my right were not, indicating to me that the left crown was set too high. It was called a "permanent" crown back in the day so I thought I had no alternative to replace it, particularly as no dentist would agree replacement would be necessary as they felt it was not sitting too high anyway. I believe the imbalance to my jaw joint due to the crown sitting too high caused TMJD. My dentist said Invisalign is the answer to my doctor's referral for TMJ, but in my research I learned that braces are contraindicated for TMJD so I said "NO" to that. Also I said "NO" to a bite guard that a dentist referred to me to buy at a drug store (without even looking in my mouth but assuming I am stressed and clenching - I am not and don't). It said on the back of 3 bite guard suppliers that the guard is contraindicated and can make TMJD worse so I did not buy. I went to Mexico instead and got the crown replaced at 1/3 of the cost in Canada and US. Got fillings I needed to improve my bite and where CA dentists did not address, likely waiting for the necessity of route canals and crowns instead to better provide increased income. Mexican dentists here still carry the philosophy of prevention and filling cavities to avoid the high cost of that work to the patient. Unbelievably unethical if not immoral methods of dentistry... the dentists in Canada and US are over-priced and waiting for the expensive work instead of filling cavities as needed. Seems that work is not worth their time. SHAME. The crown replacement was immediate improvement and a TMJD orthotic for sleeping is a relief. VIVA MEXICO!!!
