- Sir Keir Starmer has said he will not “give an inch” to rioters as he dismissed concerns about immigration and deprivation as justification for riots across England during the summer.
The Prime Minister recognised that there were wider concerns about immigration and living standards and said that they needed to be addressed. However, Sir Keir called the unrest “pure thuggery” and said fears were not an excuse for rioters.
Extremism and terrorism expert Roger Griffin joins Talk’s Mike Graham to discuss this further.

If they are really asylum seekers then they are required to claim asylum in the first ‘safe’ country they come to. That is international law. Given this fact and that they are coming over from France then they are technically not asylum seekers. They are economic migrants. They are entering illegally.

Sorry has nobody noticed the British Isles are small islands. We really can't take three quarters of a million people per year. Can't house our own people (by own people I mean everyone who has lived here for generations), nor feed them. Government can't afford to properly help pensioners over the winter. The triple lock does not increase the pension (which works out at half the "living wage") til the spring. People seeking a better life, and risk their lives to do so, should consider risking their lives to change the countries or wicked regimes from whence they came.

Having lived most of my life comunally all over the world and even with like minded souls there are always conflicts. If you leave your front door unlocked and wide open and large numbers of people enter with diverse ethnic and often different languages, different religious background and carry often challenging psychological baggage, they walk in with no ID as that was chucked in the sea, what do you think will happen. Plus the house has limited space and fiance to accommodate all these new residents. Basically most of them have no right to be here, and without the generous arrangement they would not be here. Its human nature when there is a great deal, people take the path of least resistance....

Asylum laws were changed so that those fleeing persecution no longer have to settle in the first safe country. This is to help out countries in the Middle East, Eastern and Central Europe and North Africa who simply can't cope with the amount of migration and are happy for asylum seekers to cross as many borders as it takes to not be their problem any more. If you get here through criminal means you are not seeking asylum, you are purely an economic migrant and should be on a boat back across the channel the next day.
