    You have to love the smokey air in the Central Valley during fire season. The only thing better is when the humidity rises! I, too, am in the Central Valley and it seems every year during summer the air gets thicker and thicker. This was a very insightful video. One thing I might add is the fact that a lot of people don't know how to diagnose and work on the diesels properly. They can pull things apart and put it back together, but they don't understand how the engine truly works and how to properly diagnose issues with the engine.I had an issue with the dealer here in the valley that I took my truck to. They couldn't figure out the issue with the truck. Their response was "it had a tuner on it.".........never had a tuner, but rather they were incompetent. I'm trying to expand my knowledge of the 5.9 and learn how to work on them properly. Thank you for the video.....keep them coming....

    I've got an 04.5 manual. Never had an issue but I did have some rough running at one point . Some cetane boost/injector cleaning cleared it right up. Has 415,000 km on it. Runs like a top. Running a smarty tuner change oil every 5000km never had a blow by issue. When the time comes I'll probably just rebuild because I know many people that sold their 5.9 common rails and bought new 6.7 cummins and almost immediately regret it.

    11:03. The reason why #5 injector fails is because where the turbo is mounted on the exhaust manifold. More resistance for the exhaust gasses to exit.

    I have a 2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500 with a automatic and 8 foot bed. Truck was bought 4 years ago with 125K and is totally unmolested no tuner totally stock. I went through the truck and the first thing I did is replace every filter and fluid I knew about that included the front and rear diff, trans, air, fuel and the of course the engine oil. Just ordered a Cummins CCV filter and will be checking closely the hoses and tubing for it.
    The key reason I bought the truck was it was not tuned and very low mileage. I am retired mechanic as such yes my truck does tow but not heavy and I do make it work but with it have 65% no towing and short trips I always have changed the oil every 3,000 miles because of my driving style. I am now due for another round of fluid replacement as I got 154K on the truck and I will be doing it soon. The only repairs I done is a complete front end, the water pump and tensioner with fresh antifreeze. I also do the fuel filter every 2nd oil change as I found that to be easy to do and protects the injectors. I do not use any additives except if I expect to be going to cold areas from my relatively warm area and I add some diesel 911 to the tank before filling up before the trip to try to mitigate fuel gelling.
    Maintenance is always been a big thing to me and I do over maintain my vehicles but that simply means I can jump in any of the vehicles I own and drive cross country at a moments notice and know I will arrive safely and efficiently.
    The only modifications I done is replace the front bumper with a winch bumper that I did a trade for my factory bumper.

    Good point on the injectors but to be more specific the injectors fail from lack of good filtration. The common rail system requires a much lower micron rated fuel filter compared to the older trucks, it's really sensitive to dirty fuel. That's part of maintenance but most people that are used to having a gas truck don't change fuel filters at all or at least as often as it's required on a diesel.

      What are you seeing as far as injector life? My 06 has only 167000. It's had a 60hp tow tune on it for most of its life. It has a fleece cheetah turbo, banks intercooler, cold air, and banks intake horn. The truck is putting out more black smoke even on stock tune than in recent months. I'm thinking I may need to preemptively change my injectors. I feel like I have upgraded my airflow enough. On another point, the lubrication in our diesel fuel or lack thereof is a problem. I use an additve fairly consistently. Guys running the cp4 pump have serious failures due to lack of lubrication (low sulfer fuel.)

    • @hubert-wf1xz
      @hubert-wf1xz 3 роки тому +1

      @@overheadcamwalling4146 From what I’ve read on forums, injector life on a common rail is typically 150-200k miles. Regarding the smoke, I’d make or buy a boost leak tool and test the system. You’ve changed a lot of parts on the intake system and could have a leak somewhere. Smoke isn’t just from additional fuel but also from a lack of air. I’d especially check the gaskets for the intake horn.
