I don't think Pixies is a "2 player baseball card game that uses Smash Up Style team building !"_ Bombyx has been on a roll as of late with games Sea Salt & Paper, Knarr, and Look at the Stars being picked up stateside by Pandasaurus and are available to play on BGA. I see Pixies will follow suit having been recently available to play on BGA and hearing that Pandasaurus may pick up this game. Moreover, I see Pixies as a spiritual successor to the Bruno Cathala and Théo Rivière co-design *Sea Salt & Paper.* (I don't see a review on this channel, which is surprising.) Although similar in that they are both all-card filler games, and have similar artstyles by different artists, but instead designed by Johannes Goupy-who designed Faraway and collaborated with Mr. Cathala or Mr. Rivière on a few other games. I understand the reduced agency criticism between the first and last rounds of Pixies. Although the main randomness of the input is the available community cards available throughout the round: hopefully seeing some new cards and varied order after a proper shuffle of the deck. So like many other games small and large, it's more the "luck of the draw" that comes into effect. (Also if certain player counts are better played at than others.) Moreover, I can see the increased value of the largest color group as a catch-up system, with all players still having a chance to win. Subtly like a popular game show and not as intricate or innovative as Quacks of Quedlinburg or Cubitos. And yes, obviously, spirals and validated cards will have less focus and importance compared to the first round. Then again, in the end: like Faraway, Knarr, and Sea Salt & Paper, Pixies is a quick to learn and play filler game. They each have that clever yet small step-up to similar modern classics of the past. Its 30-minute playing time allows for multiple sequential plays. Like every sequel, Pixies may not receive as much play and love as Sea Salt, but I hope it receives more publicity in the future. Especially if and when Pandasaurus picks it up. 👍
