  • Valeriy Semenov remained at Chornobyl throughout its occupation, trying to prevent a second disaster there. Here’s his account of how: ‘They Were Looking for Biolabs, But Got Irradiated’
April 26 marks the 38th anniversary of one of the largest man-made disasters in human history.
However, on Feb. 24, 2022, Chornboyl was again in danger.
That evening, Russian forces without the faintest idea about how to run a nuclear power plant, would seize control.
And Chornobyl was, again, the site site of heroism.
Many of its personnel chose to remain at their stations, fully aware that the Russian soldiers were approaching. They chose to risk their lives to ensure the nuclear power plant’s safe continuing operation.
The Russians - which occupied the station until March 31 - detained the power plant’s guards, terrorized its staff, and looted the station, putting it, again - on the brink of disaster.
Valeriy Semenov, the shift head of the nuclear power plant’s security service during the occupation and currently a soldier of the 72nd brigade in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, recounts his harrowing experience in an exclusive interview with Kyiv Post.

Thank you Kyiv Post for sharing this extraordinary story. Respect and thanks to the facility's servicemen for keeping the facility safe, and to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For the invaders my sympathy is non-existent. But how can they be so stupid as to dig trenches in the world's most radioactive forest? According to other accounts they put the radioactive soil into sandbags - and slept on them. They must be glowing green now. Operator Starsky has an interesting video giving a tour on the facility after the liberation. I think it's from about April 2022 so right now it can be found on his channel in his video list at about the point of the shift from "1 year ago" to "2 years ago". Cheers from Scandinavia. Slava Ukraini!

That man is an inspiration at many levels, and this video is sure to tweak your feelings in a good way
An intensely 'real' and on point interview with an eyewitness to Russian... 🤔 ~ complete ignorance
Also a survivors eye view of what is really happening, and just how careless/thoughtless the Russian forces are
Many of whom are literally "Brigands" convicted under even Russian Law but released to go to Ukraine...

You have no idea about the matter, but you have your opinion. In Txernobil, technicians from all the countries they wanted were on site, Japanese, Swedes, Americans, and EVERYTHING that happened was known. (something that did not happen in Harrisburg four years ago). Idiots like that correspond to the current propaganda of the genocidal coup plotters in kyiv (to hide their crimes and "pass" them on to the FR). The current conflict in Ukraine began in 2004 and the murders of civilians in 2014.

I have heard that russian troops stationed at Chernobyl following the invasion were catching and cooking fish from the cooling ponds...

What a fascinating interview. We owe gratitude to the staff who remained during the 44 days of occupation at the plant, doing their best to protect the facilities and prevent disaster.

The occupation of Chernobyl was the craziest thing. It demonstrates a striking lack of understanding of what an exclusion zone means or, alternatively, an equally striking disregard for the health and safety of the Ukrainian workers and invading Russian soldiers.
I can't quite wrap my head around the stupidity/cruelty of it but hey, such is Russia.
    Unbelievable.

russia already has a decline in population before the war started. Now they have 100s of thousands dead and seriously wounded, top that off with who ever was at Chornobyl and survived this far and all those that have spent time in anything that had been there and is still functional is adding more to russias population decline with probable still born and or deformed children after the war and, there are those that radiation has made them infertile. Looking at the long term affects on russia after this war is looking a lot like north korea, hopeless...

The GOP is currently arguing that a US president have absolute immunity while president, ie.. Hr can do whatever tf he wants.
If you ask men, thats way more scary.
At least we KNOW what putin wants. We dont know what a future american king would do.

My understanding is the Russian commander gave the command to dig the trenches. He knew the Ukrainians would not shell this area. And many of the troops were from the far east and even their parents were babies when this happened. So it was two generations ago and they didn’t even know it was radioactive! But there commander did. And didn’t care. That’s Russia
