Yeah same here. The moment those burping enemies showed up is when I took a really long break from the game. I haven't played it since.... (In another two years sh4 will be 20 years old!)
I did take a break from it myself around the prison world because I was so fucking lost, but when I went back and played the PC port and finished it, I have so many mixed feelings. Honestly, the game feels like everything it gets right it gets REALLY right, and everything it gets wrong it gets REALLY wrong, and practically every time an enemy is scary it has some drawback that ruins it, IE : Creepy as fuck patient monsters ruined by burp noises. I wish SH4 was better but sadly it's just... alright.
