Huntington Beach Stake History (Jubilee Video)

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Huntington Beach Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this historical documentary chronicles our past (1966-2016) and glimpses our future.

Thank you to all of you who made these fun things happen. I had a great teenhood as a result of all these sacrifices, some of my best memories is going to girls camp, byu conference, and the shows I got to participate in. So again, THANK YOU!❤

I was Baptized two weeks before the 17th. St. building was dedicated (as a Stake Center) ; and, called as Scout Master immediately. I took the Scouts on their first week-long backpack adventure---a great hike up to Box Lake where we enjoyed a most pristine campout in the Sierras above Lone Pine. My wife Jerri was the longest, continuous member of the 4th Ward until we were moved into the newly formed Harper Valley Ward. She well remembers all the old meeting places shown in the video. We moved into Huntington Beach on July 28th. 1964 (Jerri's birthday). I went to work that day and she got the move- in duties as a birthday present. Yorktown Ave. and Newland St. dead ended together near us, and both continued through as only dirt tracks through bean fields. Jerri used to push Toni in a baby buggy across the bean field to the store. Our daughters, Heidi and Toni, used to play a lot up at the old Newland house. The Canady family lived there for several years and their daughter Suzie and my girls loved to scare each other with spooky games in that house and all the old outbuildings. It was a fascinating place for everyone. Paul Canady, Eric Ziebarth, Eric Hubbard and I used to get together there once in awhile, and play our guitars and banjo. It was interesting to see the Saturn rocket in the video. I worked for North American on the Saturn/Apollo program. It was a proud moment to be part of an iconic, historical event when they made the moon landing.

What a great video. I was in that stake from my baptism in 1975 (in the 17th Street building) until I left on a mission to Argentina in 1977. Now next door in the North stake.

I loved this Stake, definitely had no idea what an amazing thing I was blessed to be a part of. After many years and many Stakes I have yet to find another that even comes close to what the HB Stake was....all have fallen sorely short.

I was baptized in 1974. In Huntington Beach 4th ward. So many wonderful memories in this ward. My name is Deborah Benedict we lived in 19022 Milford Cir. My father was in the Marines and worked at Camp Pendleton. In 1981 we sadly left California never to have the same spiritual connection as I had there with our Lord Jesus Christ.

It was the ultimate country club! Or, more like an in-person Facebook experience. Everyone knew everyone. Fun networking experience!

72' would have been the 17th street building.
