A young woman who was looking down, not sure what at, a cellphone or radio, blew though a stop sign, in a Chrysler minivan. I t boned her doing aprox 55 to 60 mph. Her van spun around and flipped. My car also lost control and came to a rest on a sidewalk. The young woman was very badly injured. I suffered torn ligaments in my legs, my back was messed up, a broken nose and hairline fracture in my shoulder. Were it not for a good samaritan and witnesses stopping to our aid, and a nearby convenience store which I assume some of the wreckage, would have been my word against hers.
Surprised that they didn't mention sleep deprivation being a factor. Stories I've heard about how hard they push these truckers to move loads adds an extra layer of pressure on the trucker by the employer from tight scheduling turnaround time frames.
Still doesn't compare to the biggest threat to truck drivers and that is in fact 4 wheelers. At least 70% of wrecks involving a 4 wheeler and semi is the fault of the 4 wheeler.
Yep. Between tragic accidents like the ones featured here and the pressure of companies to move freight around the country, it seems to me that self-driving trucks will rapidly displace human truckers almost as soon as the technology reaches maturity and regulations allow it. Companies will love automated trucks that can drive nearly 24 hours a day and thereby move cargo much faster because computer systems don't require sleep, and it will undoubtedly be promoted to the public as a safety measure. Unfortunately this will put countless hard-working truckers out of work.

Such a one-sided report!! She reports that cop pulls over truck after truck after truck -- of course, he does, that is his sole responsibility (Indiana state police commercial vehicle enforcement). Maybe the reporter(s) would like to spend a couple of days as a commercial vehicle passenger to see what the truck driver has to deal with on an hourly basis (1) cars "break-checking" semi-trucks for fun, (2) distracted car drivers, (3) variable speed limit differences between cars & semis, (4) cars pulling in front of us/cutting us off in our "safe zone", (5) national shortage of semi-truck parking required for rest periods, (6) customers/brokers/dispatchers requiring faster delivery times than what is actually feasible for solo drivers. I feel absolutely horrible for all of these victims and their families. I hate that inside edition does not show these statistics instead of the instances where it is the big rig’s fault 🤷♂️
It's Inside Edition. Don't expect too much. But yes, it seems common sense to include stats showing the percentage of times it's actually the trucker's fault. Sometimes, I find their headlines interesting, then I'm left with basic questions they should have answered or at least given an explanation as to why they couldn't get that info.
@Sebastian Belcher learn to drive around the truck. Simple, my dads homie just got in accident last week that killed a man. He drives an 18 wheeler, he wasn’t at fault and has no issues besides a damaged truck.
Yeah if you’re driving a class C car but a Semi?! The breaking time is vastly different. No way should a semi driver be going with the flow of smaller cars around it. Simple math.
Around 8-9 years ago, my mom and I were driving down the highway when a distracted trucker began to drift to the outside lane forcing us into a forest of many trees but luckily my mom was on high enough alert to see the truck and honk to stop the trucker. To this day, it’s still the scariest moment I’ve ever had on the road.
I’ll bet you fools were driving right in his blind spot!! How do you know he was distracted?? Do you even know where a trucks blind spot is?? If he hears your horn YOU WERE IN HIS BLIND SPOT!!! 2 sides to every story!!!
This is why I hate driving around any truck of any kind. One of them just took out my driver side mirror merging into my lane and didn't even stop. Probably didn't notice or care. I compare the trucks to big dumb animals with lower intelligence due to their big size creating so many blind spots for the drivers. Now I just hate driving around any truck or any kind
For 4 years I drove from KC to Midland every month. From what I saw it was people in cars or SUVS getting butt hurt and deliberately cutting off semis or trying to start road rage.
They complain about the trucks even though they compose only 6.5% of all accidents. Normal vehicles cause roughly 5.5 million accidents a year. So if this seems bad.....you really need to open your eyes to reality of normal accidents. Semis weigh between 15,000lbs and 80,000lbs. Vs a normal vehicle usually weighing less than 5,000lbs. If you see a slow in traffic, put your hazards on for Semis to see, Stay out of blind spots, and be a on your toes in traffic. They can only do so much in such a large vehicle.
But this report won’t cover the dumb driving habits that 4 wheelers do like cutting truck drivers offer, brake checking and more. But this is more entertaining to watch. Sending healing energy to family’s that were lost involving a big rig accident.

I love how they turn everything on truckers. What they fail to mention is more than 90% of fatalities were found not be at fault for the accidents. Over 70% of all accidents involving commercial truck, the smaller vehicle was found to be at fault. Want to start more regulations on drivers, start with the car drivers. The stats don’t lie. This group is trying to push more autonomous trucks, which as proven through Tesla cars, the technology is faulty causing fatalities when the Tesla runs into other vehicles including trucks. Put the blame where it is.
@@DragonFlightRider honestly it’s also the impossible regulations on hours too. Can’t count how many times when I was OTR and woke up after 6hrs of sleep and couldn’t sleep for the last 4 and then had to drive and push my limits or call the company and say I needed to rest cuz I was too tired. Had the regulations not been as tough I could have driven till whenever I felt tired and stopped then. But instead I was up for 4 hours before I could drive again. I also couldn’t split my hours because I was a team with my husband. Splitting hours works best if you don’t have a team, and also if the computer doesn’t glitch on you… which does happen too
Since when does tesla run into trucks? And its not even fully autonomous and the autopiloot is not faulty at all i do agree with you in the other thing but tesla faulty? Hell no
Kinda hard to make your argument she’s turning something around on truckers (with those suspicious percentages you allege) when her outing caught the exact speeding and distracting driving that caused those families incidents. Doesn’t seem like some wild leap to insinuate it happens a lot.
That's becoming a thing of the past with electronic logging, but dispatchers largely have no clue what is legally and safely possible. I've had to explain to more than one that I could not drive 700 miles in 12 hours because the truck could not go fast enough to do so, and I could only drive 11 hours per day. One of the biggest problems today is poor training, and that mostly comes from severe shortage of drivers, which largely comes from unwillingness of carriers to pay good drivers fairly and keep them. I had 400,000+ safe miles in my 5 years out there, and would still be out there on the road doing my thing, except for health issues that forced me out. And I can tell you that just about every one of them cheats you out of money and expects you to work harder for what you do get.

Why don’t you do a story on out of control cars causing horrible accidents involving other cars and truck drivers!!!!!
Yep I completely agree I’m always worried about other cars driving but I never worry about truck drivers I’ve had so many close calls with normal cars but only once with a truck and it was due to the cars in front of me slowing down to much on a highway on wet roads for no reason
But they’re putting themselves in danger when they do that, not you. When truck drivers text and drive they’re putting everyone but themselves in danger
A normal passenger vehicle traveling at a speed of 65 miles per hour would take about 300 feet to stop. For a fully-loaded commercial truck, the stopping distance of it running at 65 miles per hour is about 525 feet.
Actually, a semi going 65mph takes about 300 feet to stop. It doesn't take a car an entire football field to stop at 65mph. Fyi, a football field is 360 feet long.
I know right? In New Jersey on I-95 N, the cars have an option to take both the trucks only, and cars only. One day, there was no traffic and that one car just had to take the trucks only way. They have every option to get away, but instead they drive near the, 'menacing' truck.
I'm a truck driver and if you want to get down to it take away delivery and unload times ... no schedule and plenty of rest for drivers and electronics on the truck no distractions and no rush that will stop accidents

Don’t stand there Lisa! How much did they pay you for that?! AKA how much would it cost for you to do a flawless report in the middle of incoming traffic where people die everyday?
I don't think it's a problem with the brakes on the truck as much but on the trailer, as long as the trailers brakes can keep up with the truck then that's fine.
Most of the accidents happen by dumb people sitting in the middle of the highway on their phone with their car stopped to hold up traffic and make a semi crash
Not just the fact they can cause deadly accidents but you can’t forget we have drivers working 2x harder just to get a Delivery on time & DOT inspections almost every 50 miles. We have a shortage of truck drivers as well giving the others to work double time when open to do so. just alone in the U.S. we keep decreasing in truck drivers
The FMCSA at ATA request put Electronic Logging Devices in all trucks in interstate commerce. What that has caused is the drivers still has to get the same amount of work done in a tightly controlled amount of time. So you as a driver have to run faster and harder to do that. The customer that ties you up with unnecessary delays can’t be hidden as before. ATA represents large Mega Carriers whose only objective is to eliminate small independent trucking operations. The training has never been standardized by any legislation. But 4wheeler training has all but been eliminated also. So where does the fault lie?

I was thinking the same thing. And why I refuse to drive even my Hyundai Elantra without a dash cam. 4 years ago I owned a 2013 ford focus.
Stories I've heard about how hard they push these truckers to move loads adds an extra layer of pressure on the trucker by the employer from tight scheduling turnaround time frames.
there was a story a few years ago about a truck driver using cocain or some type of drug to stay awake so yeah this is 100% correct
Not to mention the idiotic government regulations that put them at risk too

Its not just truckers, I've seen regular cars, pickup, suvs- people just need to be cautious. Smaller cars tend to want to pass big rigs getting into truckers blind spots. Some truckers assume to merge without looking properly. It just goes both ways
They will also pull in front of trucks, completely oblivious to the danger that puts them in. Folks, trucks can't stop like cars can, they need much more room.
I had a car in El Paso get mad at me for passing him (in my truck) .. he was going abnormally slow. So he gets in front of me and slows me down.

They have truck drivers working too many hours straight. Its ridiculous how this country loves money over people's lives.
