Borders, Boundaries, and Frontiers in the Torah and Talmud - Emmanuel Brunet-Jailly Nov 7 2024
Borders are at the core of my interests. Currently my focus is on Talmudic understandings of borders (G’vul in Hebrew) and how Rabbinic discussions organise people and territory, as well as activities across space on Sabbath. In particular, I am studying whether there are other than social scientific ways of thinking about human relationships (people, communities) with territory thanks to
borders.
Emmanuel Brunet-Jailly is a Professor and Jean Monnet Chair at UVic’s School of Public Administration. He leads BIG_Lab, a research laboratory that focuses on border studies.
