The Neville kids are a hell of a sporting family. Cricket and football for the lads, football at the highest level, and netball for their sister at the highest level.
I find this one of the weirdest sporting facts, but Gary Neville once made an unbeaten 100 as an opening batsman. His partner who achieved the same in that inning was the lesser known Matthew Hayden...
The banter between Neville & Carragher is just super funny. They're so competitive with one another it makes for great viewing. Neville's experience of playing cricket in his youth worked well for him. Knew how to use the bat

England world cup hero Geoff Hurst played one first-class cricket match for Essex, against Lancashire at Aigburth in 1962, although it was not a successful outing: he made 0 not out in the first innings, and was bowled by Colin Hilton, again for 0, in the second. However, he appeared 23 times in the Essex Second XI between 1962 and 1964, usually as a wicket-keeper, before concentrating entirely on football.
Denis Compton, one of England's greatest batters, for Middlesex and England, played football for Arsenal and England. Despite missing 6 years in the prime of his career during WWII, when he joined the army and served in India.
It’s what turns someone with very good but not exceptional sporting talent into a player who made 85 appearances for their national team in that nations most important sport 🤷🏼♂️
It's an interesting cross-over. The two sports are ostensibly quite different, but you do hear a lot about pro footballers who could have been pro cricketers and (to a lesser extent ) vice versa, but less so in other sports.
Not in the modern era ..in older times Ian Botham played football for Scunthorpe,Dennis Compton for Arsenal and a fair few other cricketers...i cant think of a pro soccer player who played pro cricket. Gary Lineker and others maynhabe played lower grade cricket.
just look at the Lyth brothers - Ashley was the better cricketer of the two when they were juniors, but he chose football, and signed for a Premier League team, however he suffered a bad preseason injury in his first season and was let go, and ended up playing non-league. Adam was also offered top flight football, but he chose cricket, and has been a Yorkshire stalwart ever since, even playing a few Test matches for England.
It’s because Football is a winter sport and Cricket is a summer sport. It’s not unusual for kids to play football/rugby from September to April then play cricket straight through the summer.
Ellyse Perry has played in a football and a cricket World Cup for Australia! I think it's because anyone good enough to play that high a level is probably pretty sporty and played multiple sports when they were young, plus cricket has the advantage of being a summer sport so doesn't clash with football like rugby or other sports would

nah, should have walked.
tbh I reckon most cricketers are decent people, just some of them have a persona they play into on the pitch

Underarm at stumps is correct from there. Single motion from ball in hand vs pulling arm back to throw harder
this was a fun episode! haha good to see neville an carra playing cricket for once
Great fella Broad, proper gent , and an animal when he turns it up to 11 , love him 👊
Gary’s underarm throws were the best throw option in that position. He is low down so why waste time bringing your arm up to throw over arm.
