Yeah I don't either. Daemstoy was clean and had bangers. Additionally, Gui threw the body varial 900 for his run ender perfect.
He does the same flatspin over and over again, with variation. It's something new, but ... Skateboarding isn't ice skating.
@@augustvong7057 doing the same banger over and over doesnt make it less of a banger, it just shows his skill level. Nobody had a problem with the back flip every run
Gui got robbed its pretty simple that this win comes down to which sticker is on the helmet.
Did you see the Japan vert comp? Same exact scenario. Gui gets screwed and Damestoy gets gold handed to him.
My goodness what gui just did was incredible. It feels like he is on another level. It is even more sick to think that all other competitors should be his idol but seems the opposite.
The kids make it look so easy. Just like Tom and Mitchie when they were younger. Both look like they are struggling a bit mentally I think. Maybe because it feels harder compared to when they were kids and shredding.

Not sure how the hand touch won. My first impression was Gui's first run was the best.
Wasn't even that close to me. 2023 Winner is Gui.

That was awesome. I miss aggressive inline on the xgames. The new stuff looks crazy and the base grew again but I think it has a spot here again.
I both skate and rollerblade and would love to see it. The level of skill has risen tremendously.

Edouard Damestoy is a freaking legend, what an amazing run. Also, seeing Tom Shaar all grown up is crazy, seeing how when we first saw him he was a kid.

If theres 1 thing watching X games has taught me its i have no idea how the judging works. The kid had a killer run to come in at 88 his 900s seem to count for less

If I was Gui Khury I would just repeat whatever trick combination the top spot does only cleaning it up and adding an extra spin somewhere. These judges literally down grade him simply because he's young.

I’m sorry .. but he didn’t deserve a 91.66 . That’s just my opinion. The run was good but I feel he wouldn’t have gotten that score with out Ellis’s reaction.
It's hard to watch Tom and Mitchie fall over and over again, Mitchie seems to over pull his turns. This comp had more falls than I've seen maybe ever.
Agree that Gui was hella robbed.
At this pace, Gui is gonna be doing 1080s like nothing by next year

Look. Here's the thing that just occurred to me.
When judging something out of 100 points.
when the second person lays down an 88... What are you basing that off of?
mathematically, this scoring system doesn't work.
what if the first guy rolls a 99? what happens if someone's even more impressive? 99.1?
the only way this could work is if initial impressions, such as Guis' 88 can be altered based on the performance of everyone else.
a much more fair rating system, would be if the first person was automatically rated 50, and everything after is measured as either better or worse, including "first persons" later runs.

I really dont understand the hate that Gui gets for doing 900s. He's the only person who's doing that trick consistently. Just because he makes it look consistently easy doesnt mean it isn't still insane.
I’m already over gui. I just don’t care anymore. I’m not a hater I just don’t know what could possible be next. Maybe the age just drops. He’s 14 so maybe the next thing is a 9 year old. Idk. It’s just getting weird. Guys used to spend so much time and years as adults, and now tiny little kids are out here.idk…

Seems like the judges played a little bit of favoritism here. As much as Gui overly does 900's, I still feel like his run was heavily underscored compared to Edouard's run. Edouard's run was pretty repetitive with the back to back kickflip grab spins.
@@skahlerthat's dumb. No one else have 9's because they are waay more difficult than 5's. The fact that he has them down, should be more impressive. A kick 9 should net a 100 points, it would be the craziest trick done in a run
Adding in flips while spinning adds to the difficulty though.
I'm only through first runs and that Eduardo guy gets a higher score than Gui?? That hand drag alone should put him low 80's. Judging ruins watching these if you're an actual skateboarder..
Damestoy's run was super sick - BUT -> How in the world did/could they give Gui an 88 for that first run!?!?

I'm far from an expert, but from what I've seen, Gui's run was the most consistent and well executed. It lacked some Innovation, but still it was more than enough to be the best

Gui put down 2 900s and people barely seemed to care, Damestoy attempts an Indy 9 and everyone goes nuts. It's like it counts for less
What does Khury have to do to get a good score? Dude got screwed in Japan, getting screwed in Cali.. I don't understand why Damestoy keeps getting such insane charity from the judges. Dude is sick and his run was amazing but Khury is a step ahead and not getting love for it.

Obviously needs more variety, kid is a prodigy and will destroy everyone for sure when he develops more tricks. But all he does is 900s, masterfully yes but it's 2 repeats already. Good for a best trick but not in a run. And he just won vert best trick with a 900 so here you go

@@skahler kids half their age and his power is compareable if not equal. should be rated higher just for being even at half their age. kid did 3 first try 900s this weekend

I honestly miss big air. I know megapark is an extension to big air basically but big air as its own event is just different imo. I do enjoy megapark though.

2 thoughts:
1. Gui's first run push progression the most out of any of the landed runs and I feel like should have won.
2. At the same time, Eddy's run, while the exact same as last year, is still unbelievably difficult and I can understand why it one. If he threw down the same line with the 900 at the end there would have been no question in my mind.
It’s tough but I think Gui gets pretty heavily underscored. There was vert best trick (vert alert) recently where he did a perfect nollie 900. They either didn’t even give him a medal or only gave him bronze which was a ridiculous robbery. The nollie was properly done too, I’ve never even thought of a nollie 9 but that was hands down the craziest trick I’ve seen on vert in years
I don't think i've ever seen a clearer robbery in skateboarding. Its not like you can even say Gui didn't go as high. This is absolute madness, he will forever be the 2023 gold medal winner to me.

Not sure if there was a qualifier for this event but at Xgames Japan they said he'd broke/injured his wrist/forearm badly and only recently recovered. He wasnt himself at Vert in Japan, struggled to land much and cradling the wrist after tricks, may be he chose to take time off to recover and build his confidence and execution back up

I found it very strange that Penarrubia didn't get the medal and the score of 75, even after the best maneuver, was kept at 75.

Gary should stick to on the course interviews. That’s where he does best. The interactions between him and the skaters is great. His type of hype though, just doesn’t translate the best over to vocal commentary. Jason’s hype does.
