- The sounds you hear on the wind are the voices of our ancestors still telling us how to sing and make the music that was given to us by the bird nation. The songs of our people will never be lost as long as we sit and listen to the wind. When we need a medicine song we only have to offer tobacco and listen. Soon the wind will whisper the song we need for healing or for helping the people.
Later from the grouse and the woodpecker, we learned to make the drum, and from the woodpecker we also were given the flute. Rattlesnake gave us the medicine of his rattle to scare away the bad Tokas (spirits). From many animals and creatures, we were given all the things we now take for granted.
The Standing Nation (trees) is still here to carry the voices in their branches of the ancient ones as they tell us their story and teach us their songs.
We are told that all the earth that is ever going to be is here, on this what we call Mother Earth. All the water is here and just recycles in this bubble around the Earth Mother. All the air is here and is recycled from oxygen to carbon dioxide in this bubble. Without these things there can be no life, on this, our Mother. As for the wind, it is also here and circles around the Earth Mother, cooling her and heating her in the seasons. In this wind there is all the sound that ever was and ever will be on this Earth Mother. The wind is carrying the voices of our ancestors so we will never forget who we are, and where we came from.
Sometimes I can go and stand on a hill when the wind is blowing and hear the sound or the ancient ones playing instruments that I do not know. The sound is so sweet that it fills me with wonder and peace. Bells and flutes, horns of birch bark, rattles, drums - all of these are in the wind that flows around this sweet Earth Mother. Ocean waves are in the sound as they crash on the shores. The voices of the animals and people and birds are here in the wind. All the music until now is in the wind. The sounds of people in laughter and in pain are in the wind. All the sounds of war and destruction are also in the wind.
All of my relation's voices are carried in the sound of the wind from all the places of the Earth, making one band singing and playing in harmony. So I am never alone and I am always with my people. The wind sings the songs of our people, all of our people, in one voice, in one song for peace.

I am a Sioux descendant, living in Portugal. My great grandfather was a full-blood sioux. I still feel something in my blood that pulls me towards this amazing culture. I am very proud of having such an heritage inside me, even though I am not full-blooded, my Heart beats with the dance drums.

Only those who have a pure heart will hear and see the messages that our ancient ancestors speak in the winds. I was one who was honored many years ago to see with my own eyes Chief Silver Cloud appear in front of me floating off the ground at a distance as I stood upon a high rock facing many pine trees as he extended his hands out towards me. He was surprised that I was not wearing suede clothing and was told my spirit was 500 years old as the wind circled my face to take an imprint of my face. This was an honored experience that I will never forget and keep in my heart that we are to care for our earth and our brothers. The faces of the photographs you have posted tell the stories of the life our brothers have lived. Thank you for posting it. May Our Creator the All seeing eye keep you in safety. Please understand that we did fight each other and do terrible things depending on your tribe. However, unlike the Europeans including Spaniards we never tried to commit genocide on another tribe at least in North America as far as I know. Why would we?. Very interesting name. I agree. i was an employee for he national park service in fort laramie, wyoming.. i felt the presence of many first americans all over the platte valley in goshen county. the native spirits are all over that valley where they existed for hundreds of years along the oregon trail. a wonderful part of my life working and having experience a wonderful peaceful part of wyoming.

Brings tears. When I was little, I only read books about native people and animals. I read that white people walked with their toes slayed out, so I made sure mine pointed straight head. I remember thinking I didn't belong in this time and should be in an earlier time where I lived close to the land. This reality isn't real.

There is amazing wisdom to be found if one listens *properly*, with the ears of Spirit, to the teachings of the original Americans. We need to pay more attention to the life and Earth lessons these unbelievably knowledgeable people have to offer.

I only wish I was NATIVE but I pray to wakatunka(misspelled?)daily in hopes that the world would see what they are doing to it !!!! I"m in the woods all the time and forgetting everything but Mother earth. I"m 62 years old and still run up and down these pa hills better than any young person today thanks to my belives in the way !

my love for the native american culture though very diverse i have always had since i was born my family does not know where it came from, the native spirits have always been with me and i have been so obsessed if you will with the culture its a part of me, there music wisdom way of life prayers and art have always had a deep spiritual meaning to me and i believe today people should always show reverence respect and honor to all native americans.
I am part Shoshone Native American. My family said it was too far away in the past to still hold onto that idea, but I will never listen to that. I love that I hold this culture in my blood. I love that I can call myself Native American.
I am Chippewa....Proud!!!
But sad of what is happening on Mother Earth.😢 Great Spirit give us guidance, Wisdom......Strength 2 change. 🙏
