I understand the concerns, but all I see is from discussions like this is people on the left feeling justified to not vote which will give Trump and his administration more of a chance to get in. This election is not just about either man.
If what you’re saying is true, then the left are apparently a bunch of apathetic liars who don’t actually care for their cause. I think Biden is absolutely pathetic, but I will vote for him if it means opposing what is objectively wrong in this world. That’s the one thing the weird alt-right people actually do better than us: STAND UP AND FIGHT. The fact that we care about decency doesn’t mean we can’t be loud and angry. We need to be to beat fascism.
That's the exact opposite of this discussion's point. We need to be capable of addressing problems we see in society rather than pretending the problems don't exist.
We are all going to vote blue. It's the undecided voters, the one who didn't know then watched one old man ramble and lie and one old man mumble and have his mind turned to mush in front of us. Now explain to a person who doesn't care one way or another why they should vote for either one
Both hosts repeatedly stated that they're going to vote for the Democrat candidate, no matter what.
I like that we're willing to consider a change instead of ignoring all the problems like Republicans do with Trump. On the other hand, some listeners may be angry that Biden doesn't step aside and decide to skip voting, however misguided that is, people aren't always completely logical agents.
Biden has said he won't step aside, I believe all of the suggested replacements have said "no, we're with Biden", we cannot force someone to run. So it's time to put the idea aside and move on. I like the idea of voting Biden in and he steps down for Harris to take over. I hope that happens long before the push to "25th amendment" Biden.
Before voting for Trump, I'd vote for almost anyone who isn't Trump.
I sat by and laughed my ass off when the Republicans failed repeatedly to get a speaker. Right now Republicans are sitting back and egging us on as well. It's not good.
My 90 year old aunt was right in 2023. She told me Biden should not run. With age comes wisdom.
On not voting I have two quotes. I think it was Churchill who said: "Even worse than bad men doing bad things, is good men doing nothing." And my favorite Dutch rapper said (translated): "Not voting is not an act of defiance but of compliance".
Love the show and the hosts ❤
Not a rap fan but I will admit "not voting is not an act of defiance but of compliance" is a powerful statement. I never thought about it like that.
Yeah. To me, pretending everything is find is doing NOTHING. Biden won't win. Period.
Edmond Burk: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing
To the beginning, I support "Ageism" for the "Commander in Chief" the same way we have age limits for our Generals. We place limits on our top military officials but not the president? But Ive felt this way for over a decade so its not some new feeling based on the current climate.
Yes we need age limits for our military leaders (to include the President AKA Commander in Chief) as well as judges & justices of the law.
I did a full military career (retiring almost 20 years ago) and as we age, we may THINK we are still bringing our "A GAME" but now our "A Game" is a "C GAME" despite our best efforts. And on a daily basis across our country senile judges are making terrible decisions that negatively affect people's & family lives far too often.
We already incorporate ageism for the presidency. You cannot run for president until you are 35. Making it a 35-70 year range seems like any easy revision to do.
Im sorry but i dont think you can just use agism to mask from the fact that all these 75+ year old people in these parties running countries is one of the biggest problems with this whole ordeal. Biden is in rough shape and its clear as day. Trump is also the same. They are both too old and out of touch with reality. We need to make our parties change. The people running them and putting the eldelrly up as party leaders need to go imo
Exactly. This isn't agism. This is about a ruling class that won't let go of power.
The Silent Generation and Baby Boomers in general aren't going to step down or step back, let alone those people in positions of great privilege. I'm not going to make claims about how they were socialized to be selfish because I don't need to. It's a fact that they typically haven't stepped down or stepped back to allow younger people to take the reigns. The reasons why aren't as important as the fact that they typically haven't stepped down or stepped back.
Turning the campaign into how bad Trump will be, agenda 47, Project 2025. This may work for now. Presidential campaigns in the USA go for so long. Consider the risks. Biden may be one gaffe away from losing the entire American public. The risk is no one knows what could come out of his mouth. The other risk is that by November people have heard the arguments and counter-arguments so many times they'll be sick of hearing it and become desensitised. The outcome then will come down to purely which side is more motivated to vote. I think Biden should be looking for a graceful exit, not forced out, but announce health or family issues. Pass on the torch willingly to the next generation. Need to stir up the base to vote.
Matt: Ageism doesn’t work.
But the constitution already says there’s a 35 year old minimum…
I don't know. Ask the jackass trying to use the constitution to undermine Matt's point about ageism.
In the first call, Jimmy makes a point of inflation being 3%, but the bill for groceries at the checkout is double. How can 3% become 100%?
Inflation is not how much the prices are going up for every item. Inflation measures the rate of prices increasing. 3% inflation is not the same as the price went up by 3%. It means that average prices keep going up with 3%. The emphasis is on: keep. So, if the inflation was 12% at one time, that meant that the average price kept going up with 12%. It's not a 1 time 12% increase, but a continous increase with 12%. If inflation is now 3%, that means that prices are still going up with 3% continously. Add that all up over 2-3 years, and you will at one point see a total of 100% increase over 2-3 years.
The goal is to get inflation at around 2% on average.
I used to think that inflation was a statement of "this is how much the average price went up", until an economist explained that that is an incorrect interpretation, and inflation should be viewed as a rate of price increase. The speed at which prices are going up.
Edit: inflation is also not calculated on all items. It's a basket of items.

Anyway, I'm 13 minutes into this, so I don't know if it's mentioned later, but at the press conference at the very beginning when Biden sounded decent, he was reading a teleprompter. If you can view the press conference again somewhere, watch him at the beginning when he was reading it and that's why he was getting facts and figures right. Then he bombed during the Q&A even thought he knew the questions. He also knew the questions for the George Stephanopoulos interview. It was leaked by someone that he knew the questions and they fired that person for leaking that info.

Yeah, I don't care for that either. Even if the caller is wrong, or annoying, or annoying AND wrong, the hosts could still go about it like Forrest Valkai. His way leads to more understanding, where telling someone to shut up & talking down to them for kicks defeats the purpose of their good information.

@MrJambola123 Yeah, theists deserve respect, too, even though they don't care about evidence or facts, like ever.
Shouting down at people has been shown to be a less effective way of getting a message across. I steal this one line I've heard from Forrest Valkai regarding creationist types: "I don't think you're stupid, and I don't think you're bad. I think you've been lied to".
That's very empathetic, and more powerful than "Shut up or I'll mute you."
Absolutely pathetic. Love Dillahanty when he talks about religion and his arguments are brilliant, but Jesus, he turns into an insufferable fool when he talks politics.
The less said about this Jimmy dude, the better. Very brave to shout ''shuuut uuup" like a fucking brain dead lunatic every time you disagree with someone knowing you can mute the caller at will. One day he's gonna try and "shuuuut uuup" the wrong man. Can't stand him.

Sorry I missed this. Biden should not drop. Is he my preferred candidate? Nope. I hate his continued support of Israel’s genocide. The reasons he should not drop at this late stage is because democrats will have less chance of winning. The mechanisms to get financial support for someone new is a gamble, there is also an advantage to incumbency with demonstrable successes running the country and finally one bad debate does not negate what Biden has accomplished or his abilities to lead and get things done moving forward.
Incumbent advantage is only an advantage when people are generally happy with the country and how it’s going. People are generally NOT happy with the country and how it’s going. In that situation, incumbency is more of a disadvantage.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who have lived their entire lives in an incredibly unfair system. The Biden campaigns approach of nothing will fundamentally change has hurt the campaign a great deal. Telling them that things are improving hurts them a great deal with these same people who have never benefited from the astronomical economic growth the United States has experienced over their lives. Telling them how much better Democrats are for them rings extremely hollow. Lay that alongside Biden‘s disastrous performance at the debate, constant gaffs and clear senility as the Democratic Party tells them “nothing is wrong, he’s fine” also rings extremely hollow. The constant animosity from more established Democrats toward policies that should be planks of their party platform, constantly shitting on young people and slurping the taint sweat of corporate America also hurts them a great deal. Diane Feinstein holding a death grip on her seat long after she should have stepped down due to her inability to perform, explicitly to prevent younger more representative democrats from being appointed also hurts them a great deal. Ruth Bader Ginsburg holding onto power with a death grip hurt them a great deal. It’s perfectly understandable that they can’t help but feel like “hey man, the old people are the problem, they won’t get out of the way, they don’t listen to us, they sort of low-key seem to hate us. Why are we helping them again? Things have only gotten worse throughout my life, if they’re gonna keep getting worse, why not let them get a little worse and get the people preventing us from making progress out of the way? Yeah, yeah, democracy imperil, he’s Hitler, sure. You guys have been saying this shit my entire life, all it’s done is kept you in power to not fight for us another day.”
Yeah, I wish this had been addressed more. I feel like the main reason we're in this mess is because we keep accepting these 'lesser of two evils' choices and incentivizing Democrats to be just barely left enough to guarantee our votes while tailoring their platforms and decisions for centrists and conservatives. I'm trans and I'm worried I'll be murdered in the next four years, but if not I'm sure I'll see this same argument in the next election cycle, just angrier and angrier that these stupid young people keep seeking to be represented by their government instead of playing their assigned role in the script.
Since the trolley problem was mentioned... it feels like we're playing a variant where each round the number of people tied to each track gets doubled, but stopping any more trolleys being sent down would take multiple rounds of people being run over. Because of hyperbolic discounting, the round where you've finally had enough is too late to do anything about it.
I'm sure there are good responses to that sentiment, but I wish I'd heard more of them in this episode.
1:35:00 Kamala/Romney could actually be a winning ticket. I wonder if any statisticians and/or pollster would crunch those numbers...

I don't think Biden should drop out. There's a good chance that Republicans would challenge the new candidate in court if Biden were replaced. I think an important thing to talk about with people saying Biden should drop out, is that it isn’t necessarily the case that he CAN’T do the job, it’s that someone else can do it BETTER.
He’s doing great for his age and I’m happy that’s the case, but if someone can manage the country better than him then why wouldn’t people want that to happen?
It’s also something that people should be telling him personally, not just “hey you should drop out.”
It’s a matter of perspective. People aren’t necessarily trying to be mean to him but just saying “you’re too old” is always going to sound insulting. Saying “I think you’d still do a great job, you’ve already done great work, I just think someone else may handle it better at this point” still stings but isn’t as bad.
Plus I really want to see someone younger absolutely wipe the floor with Trump in a debate. I think that’s important for everyone to see.

nothing do do with facts. this is all about neutral conversation. bringing up questions like "why did you bring up a certain influence" deserves discussion. allowing the caller to continue talking would (your correct) in my opinion, have done a better job at proving the caller incorrect.
neutrality allows a better understanding of both sides.
listening to both sides is the best way to understand why people think and act as they do.
both sides should understand both sides. that understanding allows for real fixes to the current divide within the nation.
that is a freedom that should not be squandered
No offense but Jimmy and Matt are my least favorite hosts. They could get the point across so much better..
What does slidin a biden mean? I keep hearing this phrase
I want him to drop out based on the polling in the battleground states, but the full press conference is worth watching for a bit of balance. Watch it on 1.5 speed because sure, he speaks slow, but he's coherent. Sure you can claim thst eveey question was prepped (unlikely, given the tone of sime of the questions regarding his fitness to hold office and the race) but even in that case he would have a great memory. Good days bad days.
The answer Matt refers to, about staying in the race regardless because these are important times, was infuriating. If that"s just him trying to be resolute and project confidence fine, if it's his authentic.stance then I've lost all respect for the man.

Ah, Faia, wonderful spirit of time, thanks!
Thanks ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Thanks for timestamps Faia :D
Reading your descriptions for each caller, I was a little worried this show was going to be fairly uneventful, given that the subject of Biden came up so much. The show's participants ended up being surprisingly diverse though, lots of good points and a whole lot of crappy ones! Very divisive topic it seems.
Thanks friendo! :3
