Jamie, that was a fantastic review! I've watched most of the reviews on the Twin already, and not a single one covers what you cover. The important explanations about benefits of unicam, how Honda used the balance shafts to run the oil and water pumps. Comfort of the bars, benefits and drawbacks to both the included screens. How the bike looks without panniers and that it looks good, not like it needs them. Keep up the good work!
THAT HONDA AFRICA TWIN LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE AN AWESOME BIKE!! ONE OF THE BEST REVIEWS THAT HAS BEEN DONE THESE DAYS, WITH QUITE SINCERE OPINIONS AND HIS OWN SENSATIONS OF THE BIKE. WELL DONE, JAMIE!! THUMBS UP FOR YOUR REVIEW ;) FROM VILLA DOLORES - CORDOBA - ARGENTINA.
Great review Jamie! I haven't been on one yet, but I love how it looks and the reviews have been great overall. My only issue is that I'm not going on a round the world ride any time soon, I don't need that much bike. I so wish that the 600 dual sport bikes would get updated. If there was a "cheap", modern, fuel injected DR650 or KLR650 maybe I would own one again. I'm married with three kids at home, my adventures, and budget, just aren't that big right now. LOL I have wrestled with the idea of the Honda 500X with the Rally Raid upgrades on it. Those look like a smaller, lighter, cheaper bike, that's still capable for weekend adventurers.
There have been bikes capable of weekend adventures for decades. Nothing needs updated, bikes do usually get better with each generation but the rest is just marketing BS. If you can't do what you want on a bike from the 1990's, you can't do it on next year's model either.
Great review. I'm in the process of getting a 2017 for a really great price since is new but 3 years old already. Can't wait to take it out and try the DCT
23rd! Seriously though Jamie, good review. Concise and to the point. Problem is now, at least here in Ontario, if you're interested in the Africa Twin you can't LOOK at one. You have to just flat out buy it sight unseen and wait a couple of weeks/months. I'm hmming and haawing between this and the Triumph Tiger XCX but cant get one to sit on and feel it out, let alone test ride it! At least we have Motogeo to fall back on. ; )
Dct 5 trans. In one. Loving it. Honda reliable, many dealers. Reg. Gas Change oil filters every 2nd time. Low operating costs.best bike Ive ridden, tried many. Good luck. Go to rallies to test ride!
Good review! Moab is one of the funnest oasis cities in the world, full of young adrenaline junkies. If you can't get your adventure off in Moab, better head for the old folk's home. But you really, really, really gotta watch how many times you say really. Really!
It would certainly win in an offroad test. It's plenty comfy on the road too, and very stable. But I wouldn't have bought one if I was only going to go on tarmac. Plenty of other ADV bikes that are made for the asphalt.
i need help, i can't decide if i should get the 1190 adventure R or the twin. i had honda all my life and drive an old ugly Trans-alp atm (still love it haha) and love offroad... i love the look of the 1190 but I'm sure the twin life be more capable and loyal. (need if for commuting too). can someone with a 1190 tell me how happy he is? my family owns a honda motorcycle store so i already know that people are very happy with the twin.
Both great bikes but ktm will cost more but has more power. The twin looks better and seems a bit more of an offroad bike. I think you would be happy with either one so choose what you like the best. Very simple. Also look at service and repair in your area.
It's a nice bike, but I think instead of spending $13,000 on the Africa Twin, I'll go for the venerable KLR650 and use the remaining $6000 for upgrades AND a nice adventure trip.
power port is a easy extra to install in most bikes and i'm sure Honda has that extra, storage... ofcourse, you can clearly see it has integrated mountings
Jamie I started to notice that you are obsessed by giving thumbs ups :D I will make a habit and count how many times you are doing it per video from now on ;-)
jasper903 No but it is a step above both autos and manuals. I was stating that a traditional auto transmission is very different from a dual clutch and it's important to make the distinction between an auto and a DCT. In a DCT you can choose the gear you want to be in but a computer shifts for you. Perfect shifts every time (ideally, depending on how well it was designed) faster than a human could. I prefer full manuals because of the satisfaction it brings but DCT are, and will continue to be faster. Well at least in cars... the tech is still new for bikes.
Yeah, I didn't mention the weight... I'm still waiting for an honest two cylinder ADV bike: max 200 kg, 70-75 HP, good torque, max 10.000 Euro, max 800cc. In the last 15-20 years no one manufacturer has no more produced a bike like that. Too much cc, too much weight, too much electronic, too much costs. I'm courious about the new Teneré; announced by Yamaha (two-cylinder, 700cc) and also about the new "small" KTM (but it will be produced in India!)
An ADV bike with the NC700 engine would be my ideal. Simple, robust and with low center of gravity. Also the modified CBX500 was very interesting. I hope that Honda will wake up. They have almost all components ready-to-use to make a mid-size ADV without investing big capitals and time.
Picked up a new 2018 Africa Twin manual Adventure Sports Edition in Albuquerque, great deal, awesome bike.
Love that you reviewed the manual version while just about everyone else has been reviewing the DCT. great stuff! as usual :)

swm superdual, coming soon.

Best bike reviewer on UA-cam. Excellent review thank you.
the transition between scenes was seamless
love your reviews Jamie
Great review. I'm in the process of getting a 2017 for a really great price since is new but 3 years old already. Can't wait to take it out and try the DCT
Finally someone that speaks English. As always, good job Jamie.
Now this video gets a thumbs up. Great information/demonstrations.
I like this guy. Talks about the stuff people give a shit about.
Great review! it's good to see both the positives and negatives of the bike from your prospective!
23rd!

Love it in Red. 💰🏆
Superb review!!!
Ever review a bike you didnt like?
Good review! Moab is one of the funnest oasis cities in the world, full of young adrenaline junkies. If you can't get your adventure off in Moab, better head for the old folk's home.
But you really, really, really gotta watch how many times you say really. Really!
Finally another video!! Where the one for the KTM 1109 adventure?
DCT ohh yeah !!!!!!
Love it!
You can get a foot gear change lever for the dual clutch gearbox!
Another awesome review ! thank you
Nice bike for sure!
great review :D
Best AT review I've seen !, subscribed.
Very good review Jamie, good usefull information.
this guys have no negative comment.... really?
YES FINALLY, THANKS ALLOT GUYS!!
nice review, but I don't think it comes with panniers or two windshields as stated in the video.....they are options.
Another thing with the 270 degree it makes it sound amazing
Best Machine Off road!!!
Great review!
Awesome bike and review! Amazin
Great review! Nice looking bike!
I never liked them until i saw this video - great review thanks buddy. Will my wife be able to ride it she is only 5'7"???
Beautiful bike!!!

Best regards
Medel
Jamie, what's your order of most fave to least fave between Honda Africa Twin, Ducati Enduro, BMW GS 1200, Triumph Explorer ??
Really great bike and review
Love this bike
Tolles Bike!
Superb review! How do you think it would do as a commuter or in an suburban / urban environment?
perfect on anything to go anywhere
You know, I bet the automatic would be a great commuter, as much as I hate to admit it ha!
Hey, have you gotten your hands on the new 2017 SV650 yet? Thinking about getting that as my next bike and would like to see your thoughts on it.
I wonder if the DCT means less clutch wear and maybe longer between oil changes.
Thanks
i want one of these bikes so bad!!!
very good review.
I absolutely hate watching Jamie handle a 520 lbs bike wayyyy better than I could ever hope to handle my DR650 off road :(.
Oafroad supa cyapable...loaved it...damn i love your accent😍😍
Is the cb500x with maybe the rally raid set up half this bike in terms of capability? what do you think?
The rally raid CB500X's are every bit as capable, but those kits are backordered like crazy.
Would the factory handgaurds fit a crf250l?
Dang it. I hated it at first but im starting to like it. A little pricey though.
Easy to get toair filters??? In what universe????
jjustj
Bloody pain in the arse is what it is
Find an owners real world review
I'd love to see a shootout of this, the Tiger, Super Tenere, R1200GS, Multistrada, and VFR1200X
it would win, I know, got me one
+ChaosTVAfrica I'm interested in a comprehensive comparison, not a simplistic "Brand X Wins".
not really a brand thing with me, I'm a Yamaha guy but there's nothing out there that is so good to just get on and go out the box
It would certainly win in an offroad test. It's plenty comfy on the road too, and very stable. But I wouldn't have bought one if I was only going to go on tarmac. Plenty of other ADV bikes that are made for the asphalt.

Let me know what you decided I am in the same boat wanting to upgrade from the BMW F800gs
Both great bikes but ktm will cost more but has more power. The twin looks better and seems a bit more of an offroad bike. I think you would be happy with either one so choose what you like the best. Very simple. Also look at service and repair in your area.
sirjolly81 well service cost me nothing because we have our own garage... really difficult decision.. i will bestride the ktm soon..
haha well said
yeaaaaaah maaate you really felt 10kg difference suuuuuureeeeee /s
😂😂
What knobbies did you have on it?
A antiga era mais bonita!

lol comparing a 1000 with a 650
sdq sdq there was a time 650cc was a monster and it worked for people back then, I don't see why it won't work for people now.
does it have a power port, cruise controle, storage...
power port is a easy extra to install in most bikes and i'm sure Honda has that extra, storage... ofcourse, you can clearly see it has integrated mountings
Jamie I started to notice that you are obsessed by giving thumbs ups :D I will make a habit and count how many times you are doing it per video from now on ;-)
I wonder whether they'll make a supermoto version of this.
? just change the rim and tyres
Only one crankshaft? lol!
MagicAyrtonforever yeah, this guy should stick to riding motorcycles and not talking about them.
O my. How much do turn indicators destroy the looks on this (US) version.
doesnt the US get the LED upgrade package for like 300 bucks?
I love it o men OK 👍👍👍👏👏👏
It's not really an "automatic" its a dual clutch.
You consider a paddle shifted Porsche a manual too?
jasper903 No but it is a step above both autos and manuals. Moto idéale
Off rurrrrrrd bike with traction contrurrrrrl :)
what is "alla-moon-ium"? lol
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (haven't even watched the video yet) aaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssss
Automatic trans. anti-lock brakes......Fuck that.
3:20 ... unicam = 1 camshaft not 1 crankshaft ... first we learn , then we teach !
I like the bike (a lot) but it is overpriced in my opinion.
Yeah, I didn't mention the weight...

Ne övdü be
What is it like with a chick on the back
The autotragic version of this bike needs to be discontinued
Typical Honda milktoast...
who cares about DCT...
Auto? Never.
why would anyone buy an automatic bike? seems so stupid
