I've been trying several styles, but I keep coming back to exactly this loose style. I first saw Patrick Jones using soft charcoal like this, but then got into guys like Henry Yan and Zin Lim. It's so expressive and painterly. It's also nice for live model sessions, because you can block in form so quickly. Thanks to Chris and NMA for this, I'll have to go watch the full demo. Chris is one of my favorite instructors!
This type off drawing is pretty much like sculpting, but in 2D, ever since volume is created by contrasting two elements: Light and shadow (Chiaroscuro). No doubt, vine charcoal is one of the most suitable materials for this task. Thank you Mr. Legaspi for this demonstration.
It seems that there are a couple of people who subscribe to us just to dislike our free educational content. 🤷 The world is a rich tapestry, isn't it? 😂
let me guess, maybe because this content is only available to payment subscribers before, now they are open to public? If I’m right, I think they’re kind of childish.
Desde Argentina,mi agradecimiento por este vídeo,me gustaría saber si podemos ver más ejercicios de figura humana en claroscuro, espero respuesta, gracias!!
Both drawings are so beautiful. Also your voice is really positive and calm. News print is non archival so is it the texture that is good with vine charcoal. Is there another drawing paper besides charcoal paper that is also good? Would I be looking for medium textured paper?
I would go with a smooth texture, instead of something rougher, as that texture will show through quite a bit. I think it is mostly a matter of trial and error figuring out what works, because you kind of can draw with charcoal on almost anything. Too smooth, as in regular A4 prints, won't stick well though. But aside from that, it's mostly a question in how much texture you want. Some surfaces also are more capable of withstanding erasing. I'm using pastel paper, but even that has a textured surface.

Why would someone dislike this?

New Masters Academy I don’t like the poo on the tapestry 😆
Sometimes dislikes happen because of automatic computer programs called bots, that randomly like or dislike videos. That's always a possibility.
My guess would be possible misleading thumbnail since the thumbnail didn't show what was actually being drawn?
Sweet. Love this. I cant wait to give it a go
I love this style.
5 yrs to this course on rendering by Mr Chris Legsapi . I think the model is Caroltta Champagne

Is willow and vine charcoal the same in terms of texture
They are similar. Willow is darker than vine.
