That's probably because even these really basic heroes, properly geared, can end the game before champions ever appear. No joke, I had a dwarf warrior solo three enemy fortresses before he was fully geared (on normal, but I doubt it would have changed much on higher difficulties when he walked in with 12 attack, 11 defense, and +8 vs magic).

i keep seeing these, but i have yet to see anyone use a single good hero or champion.
