Hey! Great video. I use this all the time, but I’ll fine tune the songs in ableton. The only thing that’s missing with this transition is it’s cut out of time. The best thing to do is tap in time with the song and when it stops, wait either two or four beats before bringing the second track in. For anyone who wants to get a little more serious about sound design in your videos most of the major DAW’s offer free trials where you have access to really precise retiming, pitch shifting, metronomes and fx you can automate, like reverb and delay 😊

I agree with what you said. As a musician reconverted into video maker, I can also say that having this understanding of music (instruments, structures, feels, effects) is a huge advantage to learn faster.

I feel like it would have sounded much better if you could have added a build up to the second beat.

You can also get this 'reverb' by creating a 'Hold' frame at the very end (click on the retime editor button) and after that, you add the cathedral effect, and keyframe from 0 to a highest level at the last second. Very useful.

Man I dunno how you managed to identify and articulate such a specific problem but I've been fighting this since joining Epidemic a couple years ago. Love the service but it can be a battle tracking down specific things like you mention here. Can't wait to test out this new feature! Great vid, and thanks for the tip! - Just got to the pitch correction bit. Never thought of doing it within FCPX natively, I always load into Audacity and pitch shift there. That'll save me some time!

Sudden cut in music also doesnt sound right. Maybe automating a reverb so the tail is heard during the pause and pitch shifting the music so they are in same key could help.

Hey guys what are some ways that we can learn how to identify those subtle audio adjustment-needs when you have more shooting experience than audio experience?
As someone who does the full production process by themselves and doesn't know these things, I feel like I might miss something important like this-- and then send a finished video without fully understanding that it was the subtle audio pitch that was bugging me.

Great tutorial! The music piece was really interesting. I would say the fair warning for someone that doesn't have a background in music if you don't know what key your song is and you start re-pitching it, you might find yourself in a sticky situation. Luckily, this example was only different by one semitone (D minor to C# minor) but if your songs are further apart, you will most likely run into digital artifacts.

Great video! I just recently used a reverb tail on a harsh cut away from a V8 car pulling away to make it less jarring. I feel like the pitch shift could have been more aggressive. The key was still off. I feel like that second track needed to come down in pitch a lot more as the transition is still quite jarring.

hey maybe I missed it but I think you should let people know that they need to find the actual key to the songs and pitch shift accordingly. people are most likely going to watch this and think they can just drop things a semi tone to match it with no knowledge of what that means

Me: Yeah, yeah sure. It’s the tempo, right?
Tempo is definitely different, and personally I think variation in tempo isn't a bad thing- if anything I think it can help make a viewer remain engaged because of the variety. If you wanted to you could go a step further and specifically sort music by their BPM!
Only problem I’ve run into with epidemic sounds is that the library needs to be larger. I’ve been using the site for about 6 months now and I’ve ran into multiple situations where other creators use the same songs. Even in this video I’ve used antidote x before. Luckily this issue can be easily fixed and hopefully they will start pumping songs in faster

My answer/opinion- the amplitude on the second song looks about double, and jarring, and it sounds way more 'present' than the first clip, Since theres no dialogue the music can be louder, but I think its just too in your face. would a ramp ease it into the climax?
