  • South Africans are different from the rest of the world.
We do surf launching over sand bars. This can be very dangerous especially if you are a clown or a cowboy!!
It was the 1st time we were down at St Lucia as a family with our Seacat 565 boat which is fitted with 2x 75hp 2 stroke outboard engines.
It was the 1st time i had bith my children out on the ocean on my boat.
The morning started early, everything needs to be put onto the boat.
Then the boat is towed doen to the beach. The drive is only around 1,8km to the gates. from there it could be another 2 or 5 km drive, as it depends where Wiseman wants to push the boats into the surf.
This was a short drive, the dark of night is still present and the morning glow slowly starts as the day is breaking.
the surf launch area is decided and we all pull up next to each other.
On the beach, the boat engines are warmed up by using buckets of water. you do not want engine which does not want to start in the surf zone.
Before launching, the surf conditions are checked out. at times one needs to drive to safe areas and launch from there.
The surf conditions were great for a day out on the ocean.
So we were pushed in by Wiseman.
Into the gully we started the engines and warmed them up further.
We had to run down the channel to our safe zone and from there we would cross the sand bar.
On our way down the gully the surf conditions went flat and as such we could proceed to cross the sandbar safely.
We had a great day out on the ocean.
Mom stayed behind to watch the sunrise and keep the dogs happy.
The flat sea conditions allowed us to venture out to the ledge on the 50meter depth line.
We were unlucky to catch any fish.
We later returned to the beach.
On the back line Wiseman was called and he advised where we needed to beach our boat.
Again with his help we beached safely.
A great start to a great family trip.
