The lack of knowledge of precolonial history among many Filipinos is a weak spot that powerful people can exploit using falsehoods. It preys especially on the least powerful, on our thirst for justice, on our need for connections to powerful institutions, and connections to our past that will give us even just a little bit of dignity in our identity.

True. it's clear that the so called "Kingdom of Maharlika" didn't exist. if so then records of trade should have already surfaced to support this claims. Chinese records are the most likely to have mentioned this so called kingdom, but there is none, since China is already a trading power even before Europeans came to this region of the globe.
