This comment section is... nice. Have you created an actual good community on youtube? No notification squad or such things, but instead, nice and even creative comments... This is awesome! Oh, and I won't forgive you for adding stuff off camera.
Mad props for making these vids. Definitely takes lots of skill and time. Great music, funny imagery, informative text, all top notch. You make it look easy!
Thanks dude! Really happy you like it. Big fan of your videos as well. If anyone has questions about how synthesis works I think you're probably the best channel to share.
The way you throw in "Red Means Recording" in the video is kinda brilliant. Nobody will forget your name and it really establishes your brand in the video. You got a great style and humor to your content. Its really entertaining watching you build your tracks.
I'm not sure if you will see this, but i think it would be neat for a milestone subscriber thing to maybe open up some type of way to send you our small sounds or vocals and you could try and use those. I'm probably wording this badly but it was just something i thought of...
I've been watching your OP-1 videos for weeks now and just finally realized from the end of this one that you're Jeremy Blake. I've had your Juvenile Hyperobject album on my Seattle locals spotify playlist for months completely unaware it was the one and the same, I am such an idiot.
I remember I found this song in my discover weekly on Spotify and it is one of my favorites. At the same time I was watching your videos. Never until now did I realize that you made it. It's trippin me out.
I love it that you can have a real conversation on a smaller channel like this :) Most comments I post on other channels get zero or mayby one replie but here there is a real conversation. I really like how you named your subscriber special btw :D The next one has to be called "Another large number of subscribers special"
I know this is 4 years old. I am using it to get better at real life drumming - just got my Roland SPD-SX a week ago. Loving Junkie XL and the big beat vibe, this drum track caught my attention. I will never be able to play it. But trying to play it makes me better. And I love this tune. About 10% of the views are mine. At 2:53 you can hear Intel Inside coming through. Brilliant! Thank you, Jeremy, for the inspriation you provide. And give some scratchies to Mia and that huge pup who remains unnamed.... Best!
I've got to that point on UA-cam, where i've watched so many videos, I rarely feel impressed by anything anymore. But these videos are something else, I can quite easily sit here for 15 minutes and watch the whole video without skipping a second. Great compositions, excellent technical skill, well edited and funny annotations. Seriously, good job.
Finished song is amazing. Great vibes. But I barely blinked during the video and I think I'm going to die. You already understood the importance of constraint in melodies. You don't overdo them, they're always pleasantly filled out. One of my favorite quotes: "Music is the space between the notes", which is a less confined version of "It's not the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play", said by Miles Davis. I'm self taught in music, still very amateur in lots of ways. Following that idea of simplicity in melodies (and avoiding over-saturating the soundscape) was the 2nd biggest improvement in how I sounded. Biggest step forwards was getting better at proper timing. ^Just my 2 cents for anyone reading who's inspired to get into music, cuz that constraint thing Jeremy mentioned isn't glaringly obvious from the beginning, it's easy to employ, and makes a world of difference.
Thanks! I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to use them together. Did a lot of prep work to get things into the same key and tempo, and while I didn't get exactly what I thought I would, it turned out pretty decent.
I just bought an OP-1 a few weeks back, and I have to say that the way you edit your videos makes them a real joy to watch. Learning a lot just by watching you build up songs piece by piece.
My whole life is now based around Red Means Recording uploads, all other actions in my life are just pointless activities in which I while away the time waiting for the next one.
As someone born in the year 19 hundred and 86 this overall vibe is pulling at some deep almost primal 80s sense of origin to that is encoded in every molecule of my DNA ... probably one of my favorite songs you've done this far.
for less than the cost of this thing you get a full version of a good DAW (~650) and a simple midi board (~100) which can do all of those things and even more! on the other hand, it may or may not be the case that people just want things because they're shiny and that's perfectly fine imho. so if you want it, go for it. :)
I have daw, i have midi keyboard (well, its actually a full 128 tone stagepiano i hooked up to a midi cable and somehow got to work with 0 latency). I actually went to a local shop (which sells op1 for little over 1k $) and tried it out hands on. It's great. It's portable. Love it.
Love the sounds, love Peter Gabriel, and last but not least BIG UPS to Brian and his video synth work! That visual fit the track so perfectly, I think we'd all like to see more of his stuff.
I think it has the perfect blend of similar sounds/instrumentation that it flows, but enough variety and movement to keep it continuously interesting. the whole backwards section I thought was gonna sound really off-kilter, but it wasn't at all (didn't even know you could do that with op-1). was there much trial and error involved?
there's always a ton of trial and error involved, which is why when people are like "hey you should just upload the whole thing raw would love to see your process" i'm like... haha, nooooooooo.
Despite how boring these videos sound on paper, they're actually fucking awesome. They're like, hypnotizing and entertaining and fun all at once and i love it, keep up the good work man.
Coolest, dopest, chillest, hypest track ever. Reminds me that the glockenspiel makes me feel special--and those xylo-tones at the beginning let me know it's ok if I fail at everything else at life. Comforting, and tasty.
I love the wubs. I love the flutes, the piano. And the bass. I love it. UA-cam just recommended this (and other gems) from you, while I'm not quite an audiophile and have no conceptual understanding about music in general, but sir, you had my interest, now you have my attention.
I've been watching UA-cam videos on synths, tutorials, reviews and the like for years. This is my first post. Seriously. I think you're a genius- not just musically, but the entire presentation of your videos. I've watched all them and now I'm subscribing. This has been the crappiest winter in Bellingham for years and your videos helped me through it. Thank you!
+Kurt Sterzelbach thank you so much for the kind words, that means a lot. Happy as heck to help you through a shitty winter. It's been bad I'm Seattle, can't imagine what it was like up north.

Don't worry, What goes on off camera, well, is usually brilliant. Everything that goes on in your video's is magic. I've seen a few video's using the OP-1 and yours is one of the more entertaining, plus, shows the reason for the big price tag. I've subscribed and always thumbed up. I just purchased Pataphysical. Red Means Recording Why and how is your music so mesmerising?
+Septyrikon I am very lucky that some people like it. :)
I still find it hard to make decent and interesting progressions in my music. I am very much in awe of your talent and skill.
This comment section is... nice. Have you created an actual good community on youtube? No notification squad or such things, but instead, nice and even creative comments... This is awesome! Oh, and I won't forgive you for adding stuff off camera.
+Alonso Mancini I am very very happy people here are nice. :)
Mad props for making these vids. Definitely takes lots of skill and time. Great music, funny imagery, informative text, all top notch. You make it look easy!

Thanks man appreciate it!
once upon a synth Top Notch indeed :)
Red Means Recording - agreed! I love both of you equally.
The way you throw in "Red Means Recording" in the video is kinda brilliant. Nobody will forget your name and it really establishes your brand in the video. You got a great style and humor to your content. Its really entertaining watching you build your tracks.
it's actually someone recommended this name to Jeremy in one of the previous videos
This makes my ears smile
This is so lovely!
Reminds me of Bonobo, Emancipator and Prefuse 73.
+LiveSounDelopment all awesome comparisons thanks
Yeah I got Bonobo vibes too which is a huge compliment
Each one of these bring me one step closer to getting and op-1... 1 more video should do it.
SpinewireUK just do it i dont know what they cost but i will get one too
They are expensive as shit. But everyone can get a shitty job and start saving up :)
I'm waiting for the release of the Z
Op-1 is a classic piece, and.will always be valuable, but at this point i am waiting.on.the.op-2
You are the best OP1 sales guy around.
Your videos are mesmerising without drugs, with them it's hard to stop binge watching.
How do you have so many different tables to put this thing on
Trade secrets!
How the hell can you do the "creating process" so fucking amazing?!
Red Means Recording uploaded and I was like, "SWEET. YES."
+slimkt sweetyesss
I'm not sure if you will see this, but i think it would be neat for a milestone subscriber thing to maybe open up some type of way to send you our small sounds or vocals and you could try and use those. I'm probably wording this badly but it was just something i thought of...
Rolienolie that's a great idea!
@@mrfreeze2746 I know I'm three years late, and you might already know this. The clip is from a Manslayer Machinima in Mass Effect 3.

Duuuude, i was just thinking that it deserved to be streaming
You should really trademark the phrase "Red Means Recording" :D
+Das Männel ahhh I should maybe.
Red Means Recording Channel is growing, will help with branding and such in the future
Will he put the TM sign in the video every time he records though? :D
Haha maybe once

Great comment, and hooray for constraint and subtlety.
Thanks. I forgot to mention, great use of the samples. They sound good on their own, but your additions lend themselves well to the combos.
Thanks! I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to use them together. Did a lot of prep work to get things into the same key and tempo, and while I didn't get exactly what I thought I would, it turned out pretty decent.

Dude. You are a virtually undiscovered treasure. Glad I'm already in the know. Keep it coming
:D thank you
I know nothing about what's going on but i like to pretend im somehow involved
Damn right it's glorious when the machines do the work. That's why I'm here.
These tracks are always so weird but amazing...like glitch hop and vaporwave combined IMO, although greatly.
+prizedcoffeecup nice :)
these videos are therapeutic af
WOAH UPLOAD MUST STOP ALL THINGS
As someone born in the year 19 hundred and 86 this overall vibe is pulling at some deep almost primal 80s sense of origin to that is encoded in every molecule of my DNA ... probably one of my favorite songs you've done this far.
~TERRIFIC~
the visuals mixed with the track gave me nostalgia
i need this thing, stop teasing me
Duxík i need that video synthesizer setup more though

I go over all of this here: ua-cam.com/video/fa-UDAoPeJ0/v-deo.html
Tools are tools, computers are computers, and there is nothing like the OP-1.
Yes Brian! This is also such a great track, definitely one of my favourites! I can hear a bonobo influence for sure.
The video synthesis goes really well with this song!
cooooool stuff
+Rocknoob49 yeah, he did a great job!
Man these videos never get old...
Dude, have you ever been so chill you lost a BPM?

+ijimedia TERRIFIC
Red Means Recording thanks dad
Love the sounds, love Peter Gabriel, and last but not least BIG UPS to Brian and his video synth work! That visual fit the track so perfectly, I think we'd all like to see more of his stuff.
Brian did a great, great job. He's developing a channel of modular video synth output, check out the video description for a link to that.
THE BEST MUSIC CHANNEL I HAVE SUBBED TILL NOW AND THE FUTURE LOVE YOUR SONGS 😊❤❤❤❤
This OP-1 device excites me. What a piece of engineering...
The best track ever.... thanks for all your vids.... now I want buy an OP-1 for do the same

+Theo Byström 👌🍉👌
Watching these in the morning is really pleasant.
A E S T H E T I C
You had me at “Samplified!” I love the little comedic elements you add to your videos.
Does the OP-1 allow for other time signatures? Would love to hear you make some magic out of 4 time.
+Jack Marsho it does and I should try something in like, 6/8
Red Means Recording 11/8 is the only real time signature
Vitor Ribeiro calm down Stravinsky
7/8 is grooviest
do that
chills.
sorry to say this but you're a effin' genious. so so good
i am so in love with this track
❤️👌👌
cool track, transitions really well between sections

This track has *ZERO* chill with its chill level. Absolutely freaking excellent!!
+ACSscholar ITS TOO COLD
This Progs hard.
I've watched your videos for a while now, and I never cease to be amazed at what you do with this synth. It's truly inspiring!
+HeightenerMusic ❤️❤️
Excellent as usual. The video synth thing at the end was sick.
thank you! brian will be uploading more stuff over here on his channel: ua-cam.com/channels/sRkpWF1E8MYFKbu2a1DsPQ.html
Despite how boring these videos sound on paper, they're actually fucking awesome. They're like, hypnotizing and entertaining and fun all at once and i love it, keep up the good work man.
thank you! I'm honestly surprised this format works, but I'll keep it up as along as it does.
Wait, what does red mean again?
It could mean "replaying", but I'm not sure.
I wish he would make it more clear... :/
+Charley A I don't even know anymore
Red Means Remembering
Red Means Ritalin
Coolest, dopest, chillest, hypest track ever. Reminds me that the glockenspiel makes me feel special--and those xylo-tones at the beginning let me know it's ok if I fail at everything else at life. Comforting, and tasty.
I am your 63, 600th subscriber. GOOD JOB. I LIKE WHAT YOU GOT
+Master Beethoven haha, awesome and welcome.
Really great melodies and progressions throughout. This is so much better than most electronic music out there.
Dude! You are so unbelievably talented and creative!!!
Cheers!
+ooobbwolfooo ❤️❤️❤️
That Flute is so Bonobo! Lovely track and thanks for sharing all of these videos. It really gives a shape to the artistic process!
I'm getting some upbeat Emancipator vibes from this! Love it!! Keep it up man
Love your OP-1 videos. They make it really easy to learn such a powerful and complex music machine. Thanks again 😁
You got. me. I ordered an OP-1 yesterday, because Easter. That's the excuse, anyway.
haha, awesome, congrats.
I love the wubs. I love the flutes, the piano. And the bass. I love it.
UA-cam just recommended this (and other gems) from you, while I'm not quite an audiophile and have no conceptual understanding about music in general, but sir, you had my interest, now you have my attention.
Do more radio sampling!
*blown away*
O C T O W A V E
haha yes
I am absolutely addicted to this channel and everything that goes on within it
heh, thank you benjamin.

I spend the days coming to youtube without stopping, waiting for a red means recording new video...
:D
Red Means Recording You know your duties. :)
This video actually put me to sleep last night thats how chill it is.
everytime, I watch one of your OP-1 video's I wanna run out and get one........until I see the price, which smacks me into reality!!!! I will keep enjoying your videos instead.
It makes me so happy to see you and your channel getting so much deserved appreciation/subscribers. I'll always support your channel, Jeremy! ❤️
Many loves, Colin. Thank you for sticking around.
How are your videos so good? HOW?
I sold my soul to satan for an extremely mildly successful career as a niche synthesizer meme video person.
Red Means Recording whatever, it's worth it. hah! we enjoy it and you got us sold too
WORTH IT
Red Means Recording Hey man, how did you do that? Selling your soul to become a pro?
Brilliant. You are a humorous mad scientist of music. Evil/Mad/Genius....the good Evil...not the Kneivel variety.
oh no... you spelled tenellous/tennelous differently in the title and the end of the video...
WHICH DO I BELIEVE
+Jamie Klein oh god fucking dammit it's always something
:)
Red Means Recording XD You lost your shit there for a moment buddy. Chill @ 95°F bud❄🤘
DEEP BREATHES
Houston, we have a problem! It seems Mr Blake has lost his shit. I repeat, Red Means Recording has lost his shit. Time to update the blog...oh and can someone get a rebreather down here?!
The way the filter cut into the word ‘Terrific’ was incredibly satisfying
Whats the source of the SWEET YES?
ua-cam.com/video/LG46DboDfhk/v-deo.html
So I had a brief mess in my pants.
:)
Nothing but good over here in this corner of UA-cam.
:D
TERRIFIC
i love these videos and the more i see/hear the more I want an op1...
Who could possibly dislike this? Your videos always inspire and entertain.
These videos are surprisingly relaxing. Helps me fall asleep sometimes.
Man, the things you do with an OP-1 and a sample pack are incredible.
I love this. Especially the reverse piano pad that you created.
It's so soothing and has nice percussion at the same time, just great!
I can get lost in this easily! :)
Edit: I just noticed that I already commented on this like a year ago...now that's embarrassing.
haha all good
Ooo nice love the final beat. Love the bass
WOW! Fits my hat like fist in the eyesocket! Really really wow!
Loving the music and the cover is the kind of stuff I like to do in photoshop. A big fan and thamks for sharing
I'm in love with that arp sequencer. I wish Live had something like it.
+pasht live has a good arp, but nothing quite like the endless sequencer. Max4live does add a ton of stuff though.
