If you want to eliminate the small little cuts within your sentiment offset (when doing a smaller/tighter offset), click on Contour (lower right next to Attach) afterwards and then hide the ones you don’t want cut
OMG! You’re right! No pesky holes ever again! My Joy is my baby. I have no interest in vinyl, sublimation, etc. I love using the Joy for custom sentiments, but I never thought of writing directly on the patterned paper! I’m used to doing offsets, which is very fun. Have to admit, though, I do like the rounded edges of die cuts too. If only Cricut could come up with something like that!
Awesome video. I set up my Cricut and followed step by step and made beautiful sentiments. I tried to make a shadow background ... I got close but not exact. Would love if you would do a follow up video on making a shadow layer. Hugs from Texas.
Don't ever let haters damped your enthusiasm or creativity! You are doing great. Keep going! Trolls will always be trolls. Those that matter will encourage you & I promise we shout louder. 😊😊🙌🙌
Please please please show more card making using the cricut. Its a nice change when card makers mix the traditional with the new. Not many out there who use both. Love all the cards you've made, i wish you all the success in your card making journey ❤
This is the video I have been hoping for!! Thank you, Thank you! I am 60+ have been an avid stamper for more than 30 years. Love making cards, love stamping and coloring, but during Covid I wanted to try something new and purchased an Explore Air2. My kids didn''t have the patience to help me and so it hasn't gotten a whole lot of use. This is exactly what I want to do. Create my own greetings or sentiments in any color I want and cut them out. You are a lifesaver! I enjoy watching your short reels, but I'm at that age where I need more explanations and details on the how and supplies you use. I hope you find the time to do more videos for us older card makers. Your cards are great!
@jnelson8732 I’m with you on Ralph’s sharing this video. I was one of those that asked for a video on the Cricut Joy as there have been so many times I’ve needed a sentiment and don’t have a stamp or die for one! And thank you Ralph for posting this video for us “senior” crafters that enjoy the creating part and may be slightly technically challenged!
@maxeenolson243 I bought an Explore Air 3 during Covid expressly for this purpose. I was sure I had wasted my money. He has given me so much confidence to try again. I need to look into more colors of pens. I only have one pack of basic ink colors. I have typed out several sentiments and used the writing option and they all turned out great. Give it a try!!
@@jnelson8732why do none of our children have the patience to show us? I’m so glad for UA-camrs because I would stay lost… one day my kids are going to feel guilty lol… I’m just kidding but I like giving my daughter a hard time and then we laugh I love the pens get all the colors you can and keep on crafting I think hand made card are the best
I bought a Joy when they first came out, but found that I didn't use it and ended up selling it. I have a Cricut Maker and a Silhouette that I also don't use. I find that I get overwhelmed with choice and then don't make anything with either machine. Another reason I haven't used the Silhouette much is because I didn't find it to be very user friendly. I took more than a year off paper crafts and am just now getting back into it. And, this video has been very inspirational! So, thank you!
I never thought I wanted one... however, you have made it a game changer in sentiments! I'm always wanting to use words I don't have or can't find! This is definitely something to seriously consider.
Ralph, you have made a believer of me. I now want a Cricut Joy. Sometimes I want to say something that isn’t available as a die. Also, as a retired graphic designer, I like to put together my own words and ideas.
I just need to get more organized to have time to play with my toys. Yes I called it a toy. If I rnjoy using it it's a tou. Even my stove is a toy to me. I don't toss the cards I get from people that were made. I appreciate the time they took to make them.
I have a Cricut Joy (his name is Sebastian) but I had NO idea how to use it to full potential. This video has gotten me excited to start using it again.
Well, you’re the first person I see posting a video about this function. And how interesting this is 😮 oh my!! As there are few interesting dies and stamps with Dutch text (almost everything is in English), this gives a whole branch of new possibilities. Thank you so much! I guess I will start saving now 😜😅😂🤣🤣🤣
I recently bought a Cricut Joy, but honestly hadn't had a lot of success with it and was still trying to work out if it was worth having. But watching your fantastic tutorial, I realise I was over complicating things and actually, what I need to do isn't that hard, I just needed someone to show me how to do it! Thank you so much xx
I bought the maker bout 1 year ago, watched a lot of videos (mainly in german cause I'm from Germany) but anyhow I didn't find any vid as good as Ralph's :D
As soon as I saw the card, I sang the lyric :) my daughters a swiftie so I am by default. I had to learn all the songs before we went to her show. Now she’s all I listen to!
Thank you so much! I bought a Cricut Joy a few weeks ago and started regretting it soon after. Many videos later with no luck teaching me how to draw and cut sentiments and I started questioning whether the Joy could even do it. Then I saw your Short with the flowers and sentiment and knew it was possible! Your instructions were easy to understand and I successfully created along with you! Thanks!
I have been hemmin' and hawin' about getting a Cricut because of the learning curve - I didn't feel like I had the patience to figure it out. This little tool is EXACTLY what I was looking for - thank you SO MUCH for sharing your knowledge and presenting in such a simple way. I bought the Joy last night and am so excited to watch this tutorial on repeat! Truly - thank you. I would totally pay for these little mini classes. Give a little information to practice - it's not so overwhelming. I also love your story! I've been in IT for 25 years and I did take 5 years off to start my own fused glass studio. It's totally worth it! 🥰

Ralph you are amazing🫶🏻believe me! Everyone loves home made cards, it is a loving touch for people we love. My motto is…. If you have nothing nice to say DON’T say it 😊💝

I’ve been wanting to do this for a couple of years, but couldn’t figure out how to do sentiments. Thanks you for a great video. Very nicely done. Clear instructions, you are organized and have a clean work area.
I have had several Cricut’s. I always used them and my grandchildren when they were much younger loved making all kinds of things. I upgraded to the Cricut Explore ( I think that was the one) found it so hard to use and I have lots of the cartridges. It’s just sitting collecting dust. Now I’m thinking of getting the JOY after watching several of your videos. What a great job you have done in a short time. 💙gayle I have to say your cards are all amazing. I would love making my own sentiments you really convinced me on the joy. I’ll sell my big cricut as it’s only sitting in storage 😢. Thanks, Ralph 💙💙
I am so happy there are content creators that still make videos using the Cricut Joy. It is the easiest machine for me to use. I also have the Cricut Maker. Please make more videos using the Joy. I love using it for making cards. Thank you
I’d love this for making my own sentiments!! I am also tired of buying more dies, I have actually stopped because face it I never seem to have the right ones. I have owned two crickets, and a silhouette I sold them because by the time I figured how to do something I was burned out with the machine, but now the machines find the parameters for you and are much more user friendly. Thanks for this video I may be reconsidering buying this little Joy. I had no idea it existed! Thank you..
Ralph, I watch so many different card maker videos and I have a cricut. I have never had any of them demonstrate this. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! GAME CHANGER!!!
I just got a Joy, my first Cricut ever and need all the help. :) Thank you, I'll be trying this asap. And thank you to all those with helpful tips in the comments!
You’re not the only one who makes prototypes, I also do, I guess is a perfectionist thing(?) Now I’m trying to decide on getting a Joy Cricut my craft space is limited, but it would be nice to create sentiments using my own words. Thank you for sharing!😊
One of your video randomly poped up on my tiktok feed and since then I can't stop watching ! You made me want to create cards too and I bought my first machine today 🤪 thank you for sharing !!!! (Laura- from France)
Ignore all the haters…i really suck at stamping sentiments even with my misty. I have the joy and you convinced me to write sentiments. Pleased with the results. Thanks!!!
Great tutorial. Thanks for doing this. I was going to mention the contour feature but someone got to it. It helps immensely. I have trouble finding a fine line font, I am going to bookmark Merlot! A new fav! Thanks again! Oh, who doesn't like receiving handmade cards?? No one I know throws my cards away, they are treasure. I have a stamp I use for the back of my cards that says " This card was made by hand If you throw it away those same hands will make a doll in your image and stick pins in its butt." A good friend who appreciates handmade cards got it for me at an independent scrapbook store years ago. I need to find a replacement as it's worn out!! Xo
The way I gasped when you showed how to take a script font down to a single pen line! I did not know that was a thing. I have an Explore 2 (older and big, but still chugging) and I'm always looking for ways to cut and write sentiments with it because I can't afford all the stamp sets and dies. Plus I love being able to write my own snarky sentiments with bonus curse words. :D These were great tips!
🥰 I love how you created the raccoon/ trash can card And the Northern skies card. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas! I never thought I might want that Joy Cricut for making my own sentiments & being able to make the sentiments look like they were die cut. How cool 🤗
I do have a Cricut Joy but get overwhelmed when I try to use it. Your video has encouraged me to try again! Thanks for sharing your work. Keep creating!
Thanks for the video Ralph. Would love to see how you position your sentiments when you write inside your card. Perhaps it’s different on a Joy, but on my full size Cricut, I often find it a challenge to force them to write where I want them on the mat.
I’ve followed you for a while now on TikTok,always enjoy your style. I must say though I really appreciate you helping us cricut owners who have machines gathering dust because we just don’t feel confident using them. 😊😊👍🏻
I have a brand new Cricut Joy for months now, lots of idea’s, but I cannot seem to let it do what I want it to do. I bought books about it and saw many UA-cam tutorials. Nada. I saw a few of your moves, and it starts to make sense. Please keep on making these explanations, you do well, also for non English speaking natives! I also think that it helps that your a kind looking person, who is totally into it by hearth. Or so it seems. Thanky you, Miranda NL.
I've constantly been on the fence about purchasing a Cricut over the last couple of years. But I'm older than Gawd, and not all that tech savy. Lol But your easy to understand instructions has me thinking about finally taking the plunge. Thank you for sharing. 😊 And I hope that you consider making another video to explain how you made the trash can the mirror ball.
Nice video! I use my silhouette machine in card making too. I love using the pen to write rather than just printing a sentiment. I agree that these cutting machines do not give as sharp a cut as a die. I am currently having fun cutting my own stencils with my cameo.
Hello! I just started using my silhouette to create sentiments too even though this video is making me want a cricut joy 😂 Are you able to “write” and set the cut lines on the silhouette design program? I’m still having problems learning how to do that. Thank you!
@@elizabethp2040 you can! Type your sentiment and size it . Look for the offset tool and choose external offset to give that cutting outline around the text. Change the color of the offset line to one different than your text color. After you click send, choose the "cut by line color" at the top of that page. Choose the color of your text first and change the tool from blade to pen. Click send. After the writing is done, change the selection to the color you chose for cutting and the tool to blade. Hit send. Voila! There are better instructions on youtube. Search silhouette offset and silhouette using a pen
@@annettespecht8315thank you!! I’m still using an older version of the design studio and I only have a cameo 2. I’m hoping I can use your tips even with these dated options. Thanks again!! I appreciate you responding 😊
You sure can. I used a cameo 2 til just last year. Still works great. Now I use my 4 plus. You can update the silhouette program for any machine no matter how old.
Ive always wondered what this little machine does & I must say after watching this video I definitely want one. Often times, I buy sentiment stamps for just a couple sentiments & the rest I dont even use. I could have bought one of these making that same sentiment or others & saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars on sentiment stamps that I dont even use. Thanks for the details on how to do it!
I think your cards are amazing. You should always do what brings you joy. I know your cards bring me joy. Thank you for this video. I’m going to get my Cricut machine working more.
Your video thumbnail is so funny! Keep just being YOU! I used to use the Silhouette cutting machine and I’m glad the small machine is now available for card makers from Cricut! I still think I’ll stick to the traditional die cutting machine. Thanks for showing different uses of Cricut Joy! I might ask you to die cut custom sentiments for me. 😅😅
Yes, please, I’d love either a video on filling in the text letters or a link to the other UA-cam creator to whom you referred. I know you said it’s not always perfect but it might save some time if needed and worth a try.
Loved this video. I learned a lot. I do own a Cricut and a Die cutting machine. There is room for both. We can never have to many tools. Thank you for the excellent tutorial!
I have both the Joy and Sizzix die cutting machine. The Joy was a gift, and I appreciate learning how to use my Joy to create specific personalized sentiments. Thank you for your direction on saying “whatever I want”!
I have had a Cricut Maker for a few years now and I don't know what I did before I had it. It is a crafter's dream. I had never thought of using it to make sentiments. This is a game changer! Thank you!
Ralph, THANK YOU for sharing this. I have a Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine that I love and like you, am driven to distraction sometimes trying to find the right sentiment for my cards and other projects, and what you shared today is a real gamechanger for me. Take Care, Remain Safe. Chrissy
So, there are a lot of other advantages to each of the die-cutting machine and/or the Cricut. Let's start with the Cricut: 1. You have a lot more sizing flexibility - you can make it bigger or smaller at your whim. You can even change the proportions. 2. You can customize the sentiments, as you noted. 3. You can cut/write as many as you like at one time by duplicating. 4. It can do you cuts and your fold/score lines for you (if you have the Maker or Explorer). HINT: Duplicate your score lines to get a better impression. 5. It's a lot easier on your shoulders! Die Cutting Machine: 1. Nicer looking text with a stamp. 2. A pretty, rounded edge for the cuts. 3. MUCH easier to emboss. 4. Placement is easier with a stamp. Final conclusion: Both are must-haves for the well-stocked craft room!
Thanks for sharing Ralph! I use my Cricut to make cards all the time, but I never paid the “style button” any attention…til now. 🎵 It’s a whole new world 🎵. 😂 ❤
I love this video! I have a Cricut explore air 2 so I certainly can make these sentiments as you demonstrated. It’s so easy to get drawn into buying all the stamp and die sets but unnecessary because you can do just about everything on the Cricut. I have to say I have been guilty of buying way too much in the past. I really appreciate how you explain everything so well. And you make beautiful cards.
It's also alot less clutter not having to find room to store all the dies and stamps when it's just the one machine and a computer. Great for when you haven't got much space to craft
I do my sentiments and the inside of the card using Word on my computer and then printing it in whatever font, size, and color that I choose. I even use stock images sometimes. I have a Cricut maker but only use it if I want to shadow cut a sentiment. I find Design Space the most complicated software I’ve ever used (and I have a degree in Tech 🙄).😊
Great video! I’m not a card maker, but I have a Joy, LOVED it and quickly outgrew it, take my advice, spend the extra $50.00 and get the Explore then you can “Print the Cut”, that would be a big game changer for a card maker!
Oh my days, I think I do want one. I love the idea of making my own sentiments. Thank you for making this video. I have liked & subscribed, now I am saving for a Cricut Joy ❣️🫶🏼
Thank you for helping me to make a decision on whether I should purchase one of these machines. Your videos are so helpful. Thanks from Cape Town, South Africa
I have a Cricut Joy, and one of the things I use it for is to address envelopes for cards. I haven’t really used it for sentiments on the cards, but love the idea and will be trying it out. I guess I’m not creative enough to think of my own sentiments like you did.
I have a Cricut Air2 and the Joy! I love both machines but right now my favorite machine is the Joy. Its perfect to bring to crop weekends. I love that you can do simple and basic things. I cut down my scraps to fit the Joy mats. I never tried doing the drawing/writing with it. Might just have to give that a try. Loved your video! Thanks!
I love the way you use your Cricut Joy. I have one but I seldom use it. Thanks for the ideas. I think you are gonna go far! Your cards are clean and crisp. Very nice!
Thanks so much for this! I have a Cricut Joy, but wasn't using it for custom sentiments when card making, something I was wishing I could do! (I also agree with your pros and cons for the two options - die cutting machine vs. Cricut Joy.)
I started cardmaking a few years ago. I bought a die cut/embossing machine. A year or so ago, I bought the Joy. It was a game changer. I bought it originally to use to write the messages inside cards. But it has enabled me to do so much more than I thought. I still use stamps, dies, and embossing folders (why limit yourself?), but I'm making cards I wouldn't have been able to make without the Joy.
I use my Cricut Joy to make cards and now my granddaughters love it too. They get to pick out the card and then they get to "dictate" the sentiment on the inside. They come up with some of the most beautiful, from the heart, wishes. I would like to see a video where you make flat sentiment strips and then use the foil tool on them. I would like to make a mat of "Thank You", a mat of "Get Well", etc. This is the first video of yours I've watched and I liked your clear instructions and loved your sense of humor!
This is fantastic! I have a Cricut but not the joy. Sadly it doesn’t have a regular home in my craft space due to its size. This little guy might be perfect!
Another consideration with making custom sentiments is that (for me) making custom sentiments on my electronic die cut machine (not a cricut) takes me WAY longer than finding a stamp that will do. There are font choices, sizing, position. I find it to be too much, so I really haven't done much of that. Thanks for all the good information, though
If you want to eliminate the small little cuts within your sentiment offset (when doing a smaller/tighter offset), click on Contour (lower right next to Attach) afterwards and then hide the ones you don’t want cut
Wow! See I'm still learning hahaha. Thanks for the tip!
I came here to find this reply. I knew someone would know how to eliminate those little unwanted cuts. 👍🏻
Thanks. I was just about to say the same thing. That contour feature is priceless. 😂

If you throw it away those same hands will make a doll in your image and stick pins in its butt." A good friend who appreciates handmade cards got it for me at an independent scrapbook store years ago.
How cool 🤗
Love the flexibility theCricut Joy gives!
Me too 🙂
I do have a Cricut Joy but get overwhelmed when I try to use it. Your video has encouraged me to try again! Thanks for sharing your work. Keep creating!
You've got this!
Thanks for reminding me I have the Joy!! I didn't remember that it could do sentiments! Thanks for the reminder😂
Time to break that bad boy back out!
@@ralphtyndall I will!!
Hi Ralph, this is brilliant! I never knew the cricut joy could do anything like this. I'd love to see more tutorials with this please
I always seem to make some adjustments from the first try on a card. Sometimes my mistakes give me good ideas. Thanks for your contribution Ralph. E
The little bitty joy is the perfect option to get your feet wet. Not TOO crazy expensive and simpler than their other machines.
I’d like to know how you created the trash can as well!
Nice video! I use my silhouette machine in card making too. I love using the pen to write rather than just printing a sentiment. I agree that these cutting machines do not give as sharp a cut as a die. I am currently having fun cutting my own stencils with my cameo.
Hello! I just started using my silhouette to create sentiments too even though this video is making me want a cricut joy 😂
Are you able to “write” and set the cut lines on the silhouette design program?
Custom stencils is a great idea!
You sure can. I used a cameo 2 til just last year. Still works great. Now I use my 4 plus. You can update the silhouette program for any machine no matter how old.
Thank you for sharing. I have nicknamed my Cricut my glorified label maker. This is exactly the tutorial I needed
Wow! Great instructions! PLEASE do similar content for big Circut!
Thanks May! 🙂 For you, I'll cut all the sentiments you need 😂
❤ I love your raccoon card. It is adorable.
I have the Joy and have no desire for a bigger machine. You have opened up so many possibilities for me!
Totally room for both!
I have tons of sentiment stamps yet still have sayings I need. Thank you for this video. I'm convinced this is my next tool.
You are so easy to watch and listen to! 😊
I have both the Joy and Sizzix die cutting machine. The Joy was a gift, and I appreciate learning how to use my Joy to create specific personalized sentiments. Thank you for your direction on saying “whatever I want”!
I have owned a Cricut Joy for a year and now I know how to use it!!! Thank you!
Haha!
You're still ahead of me on video editing...I just re-record from the beginning when I have a problem.
Would love to see more about the Cricut Joy and sentiments/card making ideas
I had no idea this little machine could do this!❤ Great tutorial.
I have had a Cricut Maker for a few years now and I don't know what I did before I had it. It is a crafter's dream. I had never thought of using it to make sentiments. This is a game changer! Thank you!
I have had a Joy for a number of years but it has been sitting there unused. You have inspired me to get it out of the cupboard!
Chrissy
I went and researched the Cricut Joy after your first video because I was like 🤯 and it’s now on my gift list 😉
I have a Cricut and never knew I could do all of this! Thank you🥰
I can’t thank you enough! I’ve been wanting to do this (cut out a sentiment in cricut) for years. Thank you for your clear and concise instructions.
I love cards and still have many that were given to me years ago🥰
I get real close then get rid of those little cut bubbles before cutting 😊
I'll have to try that out! I didn't even know that was an option truthfully 😂
I agree!
It's also alot less clutter not having to find room to store all the dies and stamps when it's just the one machine and a computer. Great for when you haven't got much space to craft
I have the air 2 ...do I need a joy as well ? I'm so new to card making
@@Julie-si3hi i would say no, you don't need a joy. My cricut air 2 does all of this. This is just a smaller machine and maybe nice because of that.
THIS will make me take my Joy out of the box. I bought it aboit a year and a half ago!!! Thank you Ralph😊 ... love your videos and calming voice.
So glad it was helpful!
I never even thought of using my Cricut for sentiments! Thanks for the wonderful tip ❤
Thank you, Ralph! That was most helpful. Now I feel confident that I can create sentiments with my Joy.
Yay!
I’ve owned every Cricut from the beginning, the Joy is my favorite. Thank you for this!
It's a great little machine!
I have a Cricut Joy, and one of the things I use it for is to address envelopes for cards. I haven’t really used it for sentiments on the cards, but love the idea and will be trying it out. I guess I’m not creative enough to think of my own sentiments like you did.
Addressing envelopes is a great idea!
I enjoyed this video. I have never had a Cricut joy, or any other Cricut for that matter. I may actually buy one now🙂
I have a Cricut Air2 and the Joy!
Very nice!
I learned a lot. Still on the fence but with more information. Thanks.
It's a big decision! Taking your time never hurts 🙂
Thanks for the technique..I never thought of working this way with my cricket..
Thank you for this. I was looking for a more personal touch for sentiments. Something pretty easy and not too “techy”. This might work! 😁👍
I have a Cricut Joy but I had no idea it could do the things you did with it. Thanks
Oh I wish you could come to my house and show me how to use the Joy. Thanks for this video.
Every tool has a purpose. I have both Cricut and Sizzix because they can do different things. Thank you for the tutorial.
I have the Cricket Joy and I love it!! You showed me things I didn’t know so thank you!!
You're welcome! 🙂
Thanks so much for this! I have a Cricut Joy, but wasn't using it for custom sentiments when card making, something I was wishing I could do! (I also agree with your pros and cons for the two options - die cutting machine vs. Cricut Joy.)
I have a Cricut Joy but I am intrigued by a dye cutting machine.
This was SUPER helpful! Thank you so much for sharing.
Of course! Happy crafting!
Thank you for this video! I would love more Cricut Joy content, to get me using mine more. 😅
