Okay so... today's video was definitely a first. Who doesn't love following strangers into stores, risking being kicked out and buying super random items from the craft/dollar store?? Just us?? All jokes aside, we let the person in front of us decide what we buy to use as DIY materials. This challenge turned out to be really fun and we loved getting to be creative. @@kiyo6582 That would be dope. Actually a another UA-camr called sea lemon has a tutorial where she does the same thing except she makes her own butterfly, paints them, and folds them to create a unique 3D effect.
The clear bag is actually really genius for stadium events that only allow clear bags!
Yes, but definitely make it out of better stock plastic!!! You can buy "sewing plastic" at the fabric store.
If you don’t find sewing plastic you can use thick plastic and fuse multiple sheets together using an iron and putting the sheets between cooking paper ^^

As a biologist I need to correct a small something the family of butterflies you are referring to is PapilionidAE, but I think I like the noidEA version even more!

i think actually is Papilionoidea is a superfamily with all the daytime butterflies, I thought of Papilionoideae, the old name of the Faboideae
subfamily that with the flowers that look like butterflies,
I'm a geologist student and I took a couple of paleontology and micropaleontology, so I have some knowledge about taxonomy, but it took me so looong to understand what she meant with papilion - no - idea! Hahaha!

I actually, rarely go into the Dollar Tree with a specific idea of what I want (or any sometimes)! I'll just go in to see what's new there, end up wandering around- aaaaaand an hour later spend $50 on a bunch of crap I don't need! 🤦♀️

You could probably do that with a wooden base, like maybe pine? I know they use that a lot. And then you could get use wooden posts of some kind or shape flat pieces into cacti, like Becky did with the foam core in the beginning. Paint and then wrap rope around the pieces? That's the idea I'd start with. Ideally, I'd want my cactus to appear much more round like a real plant, but I'm not sure what supplies one could get for that. Maybe piping of some kind?

I don't know why, but when I first clicked on this I was under the impression that you were going to get random people in the stores to pick stuff out for you. That said, that would be a fun challenge. Go to the craft store, find a random person, give them a budget, and let them pick out some stuff for you to DIY with.

I mean, my first thought is that the bottom of the box functions similarly to the bottom of a purse, so it would make sense. Yeah it would’ve been easier to just use the lid but that would’ve made a bigger purse than maybe Kelsey was hoping for or whatever.
@@nuggs7598 Exactly, I thought she would literally sew the plastic foil onto bottom half of the box or something. Then I got confused when she started to cut so close to the bottom. I think the lid wouldn't even be too big for the purse as-is since the box's bottom is still smaller :D Don't know... Was just curious, maybe there is a reason behind that.

my grandma LOVES allsorts. i got her some for mother's day this past weekend and told her she's the only person i know who likes them. she said "more for me then!" haha
Dutch people also love allsorts! We call it English Licorice and it's a super common candy.
My parents use to snack on these and Scotch mints when we took long road trips when we were young. So my sister being car sick can't eat mints to this day the smell of mint is terrible for her. I hate black licorice, so no, just no.

A medium coffee is 1.80 so a large or extra large shouldn't be 4$? I'm confused. If it was french vanilla then maybe?
@@bethstie definitely at Starbucks it would be that much, or more... but Tim Horton's is a cheaper coffee chain here so $4 for a regular coffee is more than it should have been 🤷🏻♀️
A large tims coffee is usually around $2. How the fuck does that many milks add up to $4??
A large coffee a tims is 2.00 and an extra large is 2.25 regardless of what you get in it lol so im confused
I like this challenge because it actually reminds me of walking into my craft closet when I'm bored and just grabbing random thing and what happens happens. Its inspiration at its rawest!

Cool upcycles, but just for future use, here is some proper canvas terminology: the canvas “frame” (wood part) is actually called a stretcher because the canvas stretches over it. The back of the canvas is that ivory color because the back of it isn’t pre-treated with gesso (which helps the paint to not soak through the canvas), like the front is. Additionally if you are going to do a similar diy with canvas/fabric and wood straps I would use a heavy duty staple gun instead of office staples because the office staples are made of thinner/weaker metal and the wood will eventually pull free from the fabric because it’s not strong enough to hold it. Love your videos, keep up the good work :)

Hey, speaking English as a second language here. I was taught in school the plural for "cactus" is both cacti and cactuses 🌸
Idea for next dollar store challenge: Go at a busy time and ask three people to pick you items. If you're lucky, people will be nice and pick craft supply-type items, or something that matches what you have already. If they're not nice ... that's what makes it challenging! Lol

When I write on a poster I usually write the first and last letter where I want them to begin and end, and then fill in. But starting from the middle might help balance it out!
The plastic tote thing just sort of looks like ... a large sandwich bag :s Cactus is cute though!
I would’ve made a terrarium with the dollar store items and with the craft items... I would’ve made a box with the project board, then I would glue the “wood” paper to it so it would resemble a wooden box (with a lid), then I’d paint the canvas with chalkboard paint and after all of that I would glue the box to the canvas. I would put daily inspirational quotes in the box and when I wake up every morning I could randomly choose a quote and write it on the chalkboard canvas! 😁

GENIUS butterfly thingy! I actually have some decor butterflies flying around (hehe) that I used for a costume once. I'll do something similar but instead of hotgluing them down, I'll try to make slits into the canvas and use the clips on the butterflies to attach them. That way, I can reuse them for something else if I ever want but in the meantime, the pretty things don't just sit in their box in the cupboard :))

I think it would be cool if you met a small group of subscribers (2-5) at a store like Dollarama and got them to into the store one at a time and get something for you in a time limit of like 5 mins. The twist is that no one shopping knows what the other people have bought until you reveal as a haul. Another idea would be to take a subscriber from each province to send you a purchased item from their local dollarstore (you could give them a category) and DIY with whatever you get into some Canada themed items for Canada Day!

I personally would have made the purse just out of the plastic covers and then used parts from the owl and butterflies to make decorations for the bag or like a keychain-ish decoration and used the containers to make shrinky dinks for the keychain. And for the cactus I liked it but maybe you could have used the canvas and painted it pink and made it into flowers to glue on to the cactus. That’s just what I would have done. I loved both diys anyway. And I love both of you. You Go Girls!!!!!!

Debby L But if thats how you’re thinking about the food version of the challenge, isn’t just as unsustainble to buy things in a store that you most likely dont have any use for? (like the plastic bag and the cactus will most likely end up like trash without having surved a purpose) Genuinely asking for your appinion about it, not criticizing the girls’ video :)
This is just as wasteful. Theyre not using all this decor they create. Most of it will end up in landfills. It has no purpose and no one was filling a need.

Honestly mostly commenting to see my 2 month membership rose color haha! But these are all so fun! I especially love the stapling as a mode to afix the canvas to the wood because it's actually reversible without too much damage if necessary. (I hesitate with permanent mounting methods sometimes with things I really like...)
You could have totally used the foam core and paper to make "wood" trim around the canvas to do a farmhouse style sign! Love that cactus tho
Ok now what y'all came up with is awesome.
Here's an idea to change up this challenge a little bit. Instead of "stocking" someone (or one person) how about glancing at different random people's carts, baskets, and/or stuff in hands? That way it's more random. You could also ask random people to pick an item from that store for y'all. Just a thought.

I use the thicker showcase sleeves to make make up bags. Just sew it into a bag and sew a zipper on top. Works perfect. And I do diffrent colored zippers for make up, brushes, skin care etc
