  • For our final session of our Summer Talks series this year, we were delighted to welcome Adi, founder of Adi's Urban Mushrooms, who gave this online talk about the wonderful world of fungi. He discussed what mushrooms and fungi are, how they live and their vital role in ecological systems.
Adi has been a mushroom forager for over 40 years and has a huge passion for fungi. For him, mushrooms are all about connecting with nature and delicious food. After completing his PhD, he decided to set up Adi's Urban Mushrooms in 2021, a not-for-profit enterprise, dedicated to supporting people from all walks of life in their mushroom-growing journey.
In 2023, he founded The South London Mushroom Club for local mushroom enthusiasts to come together and engage in fun activities and share their stories and experiences and creating new ones.
At the Remakery in Camberwell/Brixton, he cultivates mushrooms for the local farmers' market and makes mushroom jerky. Adi also offers mushroom growing workshops and grow kits, as well as leading foraging sessions. He has 40 years' foraging experience and learnt from the best trained mushroom controllers in Switzerland.
Adi says: “What truly captivates me about fungi is their incredible potential to combat climate change. From locally produced food and eco-friendly packaging to revolutionary medicinal applications, mushrooms are true sustainability superheroes. Together, we can create a world that recognises their immense importance in fostering local circular economies.”
