It's not even a new trick. There are a number of religious practitioners who did this as 'evidence' that they were devoted to their god(s). These people would insert small needles to begin with and then work their way up. Scar tissue would form and so it became painless. It's the same principle as a piercing. I would love some nutcase to challenge him and say they will stab their hand and he has to do the same place.
he probably had it done by an expert at first many times in order to create a hole (similar to an earring, like you said) and so he only has to carefully navigate the blade through the hole.
Likely - doing this often - he developed a kind of a fistula (making it more easy). But this is not necessary. This kind of piercing is way more difficult, than with a needle blade, but therefore it forms the tiniest hole, which is then widened by stretching. This moves aside nearly all blood vessels, and a few torn tiny capillaries will never bleed, as the pressure seals them.
Doc James Burton That is one way and usually the correct answer. There are some magicians who use a very old technique that was associated with certain religious practices. You make a small hole with a needle and over time you shove in larger objects, the scar tissue doesn't have nerves which respond to pain and the scar tissue forms a sort of track for any future objects. I'm not saying that's absolutely what he's doing, only that it used to be done that way.
Look at his other hand at 2:50, you can clearly see a device in his other hand, it is probably to make the ice pick retract and make a needle come from fake tissue on the other side of his had and he probably does stick it a bit in fake tissue at the top of his hand
Well one of the main interests people have in watching magic/tricks is trying to figure out how it's done, so let people enjoy it they way they should.
He just started with really thin needles, then through years of practice increasing the needles size. He`'s always piercing the same spots. Thats why it doesnt bleed anymore.
The thing about an amazing magic trick... It pushes us to come up with bizarre and extravagant reasons for how it's done but the answer is actually almost always incredibly simple.
I've watched him do this same trick multiple times now, and it's always in the exact same spot. He pierced his hand just to do that trick. There's no blood, because he isn't actually puncturing anything, as there's a hole there. That's really the only explanation I can think of. Problem is, he also does this trick, using his right biceps. I've only seen that one once though, but I think it's reasonable to assume that he pierced both spots just for these tricks. That's crazy.
I think he had a surgeon insert a thin collagen (or something similar tube in his left hand and right bicep, just below the skin surface. All he does is carefully pierce the skin and then work the needle through the thin flesh-colored tube. No danger of hitting blood vessels or nerves or cartilage.
Paul Schober he had it done for real the first time with a larger needle .every time after that he's doing it for real but it only goes through the original scar tissue so no blood
He had a thick rubber cement on his hand. The ice pick just penetrate the rubber cement and then shrink. On the other side of hand he pull the rubber cement using an invisible string.
No, he doesn't. It is a trick actually. I know how he did it. It is obvious after i saw the ricky gervais one. In this one he does it different but still the same.
Maybe , he is wearing a very realistic looking glove/cover on his hand. He goes through one side and the tip shows up on the other side. That explains the lack of blood
He....literally just shoved an ice pick through his hand....the only trick is that it didn't draw any blood, but other that that, HE SHOVED AN ICE PICK THROUGH HIS FREAKING HAND! What kinda pain killers did he take!?
That is incorrect. It is quite literally going through his hand, but he had surgery ages ago that put a nearly unnoticeable hole through his hand so he could perform this trick. Take a look at this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Needle-through-arm
Unless it's mirrored, he does the same thing through the other hand in another video. It's a different hand with Will Smith's family than the breaking bad guys.
I wonder if any of this trick applies dry needling. Look it up, physical therapists use this on muscles to release trigger points. It can be done without causing bleeding because the needle is not hollow like those in hospitals to draw blood which tear through tissue. We have done this in class messing around with needles but never through the hand. Lots of nerves through there. There is a video where he is in a book store and he actually pulls out a needle used for dry needling (can tell by the packaging and casing of the needle) and puts it through his hand. A professor put one of the needles all the way down to my hip bone and no blood during removal.
After Alec Baldwin saw David Blaine push an ice pick through his hand without injuries, he though he could put a gun shot through a woman without injuries. (By the way, he react like a psychopatn on the trick. No emotions whatsoever.)

I'm reminded of that Gom Jabbar scene at the beginning of Dune, where the witch lady tests Paul to see whether he's a human with self control or some shit. In the real world, that's just called David Blaine being a dick to people.
I get the no nerve damage, the major nerves of the hand can be avoided I do not get how there is no blood or pain. All tissues need to be supplied with blood, and there's a muscle directly in the way of pushing the pick through. I guess it's possible that the ice pick pushes the internal tissues out of the way instead of piercing through them, but it's still crazy to me.
I know how he does this. So ofcourse he has a special sort of thick ,,make up" on his hands. At 2.50 on his right hand you can see probablu like white button which is attached to wires under his jacket. When u press the button, the needle appears on the second side of a hand. Its of course additional, different, really small piece of another needle, specificly the end of it which is under the make up. It all creates the illusion that it goes through the hand
Why does the ice pick need a lever he activates with his finger inside his grip? Could that be used to shorten the pick length? Odd that the mechanical device in his palm does not move in time with the pick movement?
That's a trick ice pick, it retracts back into the handle but I dont know how he gets it to come out the bottom haven't figured that part out yet, if it was real there would be tons of blood illusion.
David Blaine's ice pick trick, where he pushes an ice pick through his hand without apparent injury or bleeding, is a famous stunt that relies on a combination of skill, preparation, and misdirection. Here's how it's generally believed to work: Body Training: Blaine has likely undergone significant training and practice to safely insert objects into certain areas of his body. Over time, he may have learned how to insert the ice pick through a part of his hand where it can pass between tendons and muscles without hitting major blood vessels or causing serious damage. Misdirection and Audience Control: Blaine is a master of misdirection. He ensures that the audience is focused on the drama and the effect of the trick rather than on the actual insertion. This allows him to perform the trick without drawing attention to the specifics of how he does it. Precision and Sterility: Blaine has likely practiced this in a way that ensures precision in where the ice pick enters and exits his hand. He also takes safety precautions, such as using sterile equipment, to avoid infections. While the trick appears dangerous, it relies heavily on meticulous planning and physical conditioning. It's not magic in the traditional sense, but rather a feat of endurance and precision.
No. The tissue is flexible, the needle just something like another bone in the hand. There are quite a few people with healed piercings like that (albeit for most jobs this is a highly impractical piercing working with your hand usually will transfer some dirt... hello infection)
freez at 2:28 he is holding metal part that coming out of the wooden part 😃😃 then he hide it , great trick however the camera man should have not zoom in 😂
+Karam M It's not a trick, it's an endurance feat. He is holding something in his right hand from the beginning though, something white, like a piece of paper or cloth, which apparently doesn't have anything to do with the stunt. He really does stick that through his hand. He has explained it, there is a video of it and x-ray proof.
It's a magnet I think? I mean, I do have a theory on how he does it. x-rays can be faked, and people paid off to shut up about it. I believe that he does pierce his skin, as it's hard to fake that, and has a magnet inserted to the other side of his hand. He might also use adhesive on the back of his hand. I mean, he needs to! And his ice pick is special, so he can use a magnet to make it go into the handle and lock it back in. I do have a hard time explaining what I mean, but in my head it works.
It is not faked. He has scar tissue inside his hand the skin on your palm heals easily so that why the hole isnt showing before the trick. Its like an ear piercing. This trick is fucking easy to figure out idk how so many have problems understanding that he has a hole already through his hand
The spot on the hand where he is putting the ice pick through if done very precisely, the ice pick will miss all blood vessels and miss most nerves and muscle tendons. This trick requires exact precision but it is also done by fakors. There are hundreds of locations in the human body that do not have any blood vessels, very few nerves and very few muscle fibers. This knowledge is known by the fakors.
If David Blaine gets mugged and he got stabbed, imagine him saying to the mugger "there's no blood, see?".

Here's how it's generally believed to work:
Body Training: Blaine has likely undergone significant training and practice to safely insert objects into certain areas of his body.
Alec tried his own magic trick involving a gun and a woman in a desert.... I'd say it's probably better to let David Blaine do the magic tricks Alec
Alec is still trying to figure out how NOT to kill people on movie sets, let alone how Blaine does magic.....lol
Junkies know how this is done. Gotta give him props though, that’s a goddamn icepick.
Everyone gangster until he hits the radial artery.
If he had flexed his hand just the slightest bit, he would have torn something
yeah time itself
No. The tissue is flexible, the needle just something like another bone in the hand. There are quite a few people with healed piercings like that (albeit for most jobs this is a highly impractical piercing working with your hand usually will transfer some dirt... hello infection)
Insane in the membrane, INSANE IN THE BRAIN!
Was Sharon Stone just doing magic tricks in Basic Instinct?
freez at 2:28 he is holding metal part that coming out of the wooden part 😃😃 then he hide it , great trick however the camera man should have not zoom in 😂
+Karam M It's not a trick, it's an endurance feat. He is holding something in his right hand from the beginning though, something white, like a piece of paper or cloth, which apparently doesn't have anything to do with the stunt.
He really does stick that through his hand. He has explained it, there is a video of it and x-ray proof.
oh man! this is an illusion. nothing more, nothing less. and the x-ray part? have you seen it on TV or for real? do you believe he can fly?
