I was enjoying this, until the whole documentary collapsed under the collective weight of its focus on intersectionality, Identity politics and general contemporary pro-noun led, victim culture. Some interesting stories and some great bands: Strawberry Switchblade and The Hedrons the standouts for me. It's ironic that one band member uses the doc to air her own grievance, about other Male dominanted Scottish indie documentaries leaving them out of the "untold story" of Scottish indie music history. She need not worry, those documentaries are equally filled with mediocre have a go bands, who never made it into collective consciousness of Joe public - for a good reason! The doc, is filled with the usual plethora of music press cliches: everyone was D.I.Y (punk has a lot to answer for), every artist was trying to be themselves. The crowbarred contemporary feminist overtones from the director/narrator, are constantly at odds with many of the woman featured - who were/are obviously quite happy using femininity to sell their image and further their career. Going by the narrative portrayed at the end of the doc, it's clear it's ok to look like a high powered, sexualised woman - as long as you're a member of the bearded men wearing girls clothes cult.
