The actor playing their police officer boss is Eddie Egan. He was the real Popeye Doyle. Also, the FBI Agent he fights with is Bill Hickman. He was the stunt driver who did the car chase scene in this movie, and also in Bullitt.

@Game Gallows Lol I did what you said like a big boy and immediately recognized the video I saw it when it first came out, at no point does Anthony ever suggest it was an inside job, fake planes or controlled demolition. But we were caught with our pants down what do you want, the US government had fake terrorist attacks called in almost daily are they supposed to believe every single one? So why don’t you tell me your theories like a big boy? Controlled demolition or dust weapons from outer space? They recovered all four planes at each crash site as well as all the passengers DNA, all the air traffic control records show where the planes crash, and you had blackbox recordings and phone calls to love ones. Not sure whatever evidence you need. Some people just don’t make good detectives what can I say. Especially with the evidence on the table
@Game Gallows Lol so you have no theory or you haven’t done any research at all? Why would you need to listen to a government narrative? You can see all the evidence on film. Do you know anything about control demolitions, the strength of steel, or radio frequencies? You’re just being a coward and you’re too ignorant to do any research. You’re going to die in another 50 years and there’s not gonna be one shred of proof it was a controlled demolition or inside job. I hate to tell you buddy but terrorism exists. I suppose you think all the African embassy attacks, USS Cole, Pearl Harbor, Mumbai India, 1993 wtc bomb they are all inside jobs too? Fires drop towers all the time just look at the UA-cam video of the recent ones in Iran and Brazil. Government conspiracies in those poor countries? It is always upsetting when you watch a movie that you used to absolutely adore but for one reason or another it doesn't hold up and you realise the movie in your head is way better. On the other hand some films are just as great now and give you the same feelings they gave you when they came out, Jurassic Park for example. Terminator 2 is still an awesome movie and still one of my favourite movies ever but some of the special effects look dated and do not look as good as what I remembered. Again Jurassic Park still looks amazing even to this day and still has some of the greatest special effects/CGI, which no movie has been able to better. It had the perfect balance of CGI and puppets/animatronics, unlike today's films which usually contain only CGI. Nowadays even explosions and in some cases things like brick walls are created using CGI. Anthony is awesome and continues to be a breath of fresh air in today's awful phony faux offended society. I like when he isn't getting caught up with politics and when he is discussing other things like movies. But to be fair to him today's culture brings politics into just about anything and everything so you can't really avoid bringing it up no matter what subject you are talking about. If more "celebrities" were as honest and sincere as Anthony then the world would be a lot more tolerable. Even if you don't agree with all of his views and opinions at least he is honest and says exactly what he really believes without having any agendas or without trying to stay within the ever decreasing confines of what is and what it not acceptable. He basically doesn't give a f*ck if you like him or not but is willing to discuss and debate. Which is unfortunately rare nowadays.
The Warriors (1979) was based on the Sol Yurick (1965) novel of the same name. Which in turn, was inspired by the historical Xenophon's Anabasis. Although, both the movie and novel share the same basic plot. There are still several differences between the book and film. Including the names and costumes of the multitude of gangs and its depiction of women. One key difference is that the central characters of the novel is an African American/Hispanic gang known as the Coney Island Dominators. Unlike like their cinematic counterparts. The Coney Island Dominators were depicted more like an actual street gang and not like comic book heroes.
The French Connection is fantastic! But I didn't realize how correct Ant would be about the movie poster / box cover! It's like the Planet of the Apes cover where the Statue of Liberty is in the background.
The 70’s movies unlike the .50’s were gritty and based in reality. You can see Doyle and Russo as real NYC detectives who stumbled upon this and are working it and that’s what this is about. I like the scenes when they are Just talking in the car. I can imagine this being close to the way it would really go down. One Flew over the cuckoos nest seems to me like the mental ward Would be like. Anthony has watched too Many Bourne movies.
Love the French Connection, not an action packed thriller no. But still a very good film. Put it this way, I'd rather watch that than the endless Marvel and Star Wars trash, eurghhh. By the way, Night Moves from 1975 with Hackman is outstanding. Watch out for a very young James Woods in that one.
Uhhmm. The French Connection is not really an action movie. It’s more of a crime/noir film. It’s a slow burn. It’s not supposed to be like ffuckking Lethal Weapon.
During the lockdown, I saw Thief for the first time ever. I loved it. I re-watched the French Connection too. It's not an action movie. It's a good movie that depicts the era very accurately.
In time I think Heat will stand up as rewatchable in 50 years as it is now. I mean it's 25 years old already and it is still one of the slickest movies ever in terms of presentation. I can't think of anything that timeless. In terms of 70s stuff, obviously the Godfather I and II, Taxi Driver and Jaws...but a LOT of the others either haven't aged well or don't suit rewatches. Dog Day Afternoon is also great yet oft forgotten.
The 80th Aliens, Terminator, Predator, Die Hard, had so many great movies. Goonies, Mad Max 2, Beverly Hills Cop, Indiana Jones, they live, Blade Runner, the Breakfast club, evil dead, gremlins, once upon a time in America, scareface, platoon, ghostbuster, back to the future, full metal jacket, Flash Gordon, stR wars 2&3, 48 hours, conan, James Bond?
This brings to mind Patrice arguing with Joe De Rosa over how shitty Alfred Hitchcock movies are on O & A. Patrice on De Rosa's smug defense of Hitchcock: "Joe and his Egyptian intelligence" ...and Anthony dying in the background at that line lmao...a favorite show clip I play over and over for a mood lift
Derosa is the type of person who has strong opinions and thinks everyone should give a f*ck about it. Reasons why he went to comedy instead of his actual comedy.
Well kinda unrelated but for some reason when Patrice bashes a fellow comic..He always uses their race and history as a base for a gut buster. The one I always remember is when they were watching and Roasting Rich Vos's stand up.. Patrice amongst Vos stating "First of All" Patrice chimes in.."Jesus Christ chosen people...Brush yer teeth!!"
NY subway was NOT safer in the 70's! Come on Ant. NY between 1970 and 1995 was like Beirut. It was fun, but crime was insane and nobody cleaned anything.

I first saw that film when I was 30. Call me a wuss, but it made my 14 year-old self never want to be anywhere near a prison
Dead Man Walking was better
The final showdown in Bad Boys is pretty epic.
The Falcon & The Snowman was impressive too. Sean Penn was great. At Close Range with actor Christopher Walken was a + drama too.

A one hour free show a week would be great it would be great for the relevancy of the network

There’s a reason he doesn’t/can’t do this.
I love it when you talk about old movies and being brutally honest about them.
People say birds was a good scary movie. But when I saw it I was laughing the entire time.
It sucked
Then u r a sick in the head kinda person
The 80s were definitely the best comedy and Sci fi movie era.
Nah
Definitely Sci Fi but I'd have to give comedy over to the 2000s. Mid 2000s/Early 2010s.
One of my favorite movies. Patience is a virtue, and stuff moved slower before video games and cellphones. Look at Taxi Driver...two hours of watching DeNiro go crazy for 5 mins of action at the end.
the scene where travis is talking and the camera pans over to the empty hall is still amazing and sad at the same time.
Fort Apache the Bronx, Cruising, Prince of the City, there are a bunch of good cop movies from the 70's and early 80's that were pretty good. The car chase scene in French Connection was pretty good. Low T is off on this one.
@@ricardocantoral7672 They all have their place as great gritty NYC cop films. I didn't rank them but they all belong on the list.
Prince of the City is amazing, really underrated movie
Yes! Fort Apache: The Bronx. Great acting, storyline. Although Ken Wahl's sudden flip at the end of the movie is a little convenient.
I loved Hackman in fc2 when he was hitting the smack then at the end he just had enough
Great foot chase in that one.
If the first movie is slightly over-rated then the sequel is definitely under-rated.

I will joyously watch Ant take a dump on anything, especially old movies.
Whenever Anthony is wondering what kinda show to do, please just shit on classic movies.
I can count on one hand the amount of things I DONT want him to shit on for content
Yup, I enjoy watching Ant shit on movies more than anything on actual tv these days
French connection is a great movie. Way worse ones to go after. Lol
The Taking of Pelham 123.....nuff said
The deer hunter sucks too but there's two scenes that are so good that they actually get ur adrenaline going but the rest is just the drizzling shits
Wtf? "The French Connection" is a masterpiece.
The actor playing their police officer boss is Eddie Egan. He was the real Popeye Doyle. Also, the FBI Agent he fights with is Bill Hickman. He was the stunt driver who did the car chase scene in this movie, and also in Bullitt.
That dude is badass! Yeah, Ant is funny, but this is just a bit. French Connection rocks.
That chase scene was 100% real. Those weren't extras, those are bystanders.
I first watched The Wanderers on HBO in 1979 when I was 8 yrs old ..the ducky boys scared the crap out of me
Charley Varrick is underrated and holds up real well.
Agreed. Joe Don Baker is a very under appreciated actor. Friends of Eddie Coyle is very good as well. Movies like these and French Connection are Time Capsules of a bygone area. I LOVE 70’s & 80’s Movies. That’s what I grew up on. Still prefer them to what’s out today.

I believe you missed the point of The French Connection. It’s not a Steven Seagal movie.

Friedkin was still an industry and culture changing director, even without "The Exorcist". "To Live And Die In L.A." is a masterpiece, and has influenced every cop drama and to some extent all suspense, clock-based movies to this day. Love Ant. But he has a very hoi polloi view of filmmaking, when it comes to director's younger work. *RIP William Friedkin*
His memoirs are awesome too.
Sorcerer is pretty good too. Simpsons paid homage to it as well back in the day, I think in the Mr. Plow episode
The 7Ups always beats the French Connection
The French Connection is one of the best films of the 1970s. No, it's not an "action" movie despite having one of the best chase scenes of all time. It's a brilliantly crafted thriller.
it was a boring mess
I remember getting called the worst names at school for saying the Lord of the Rings was a 💩 movie when it came out.
LoTR was awful.
I watched "The French Connection" again on Blu-Ray with my dad a few days ago. We both thought the film was still great.
Did you hug
Compared to today, these movies are gold.
True.
French Connection still stands up...gritty action drama and a great snapshot of early 70s NY. Mean Streets is a bore-fest in comparison.
Warriors is still good....Wanderers was always not good.
@@hanajinks1044 The Warriors fucking rules, I don't care what anybody says
The fact that they filmed that bananas chase scene under the elevated train lines on 86th Street, ILLEGALLY, deserves an award on its own
Yes I agree. I hated Mean Streets. So boring lol
Means streets was an amazing film, Anthony, Jimmy all those guys love it. You just have to have real life experience to relate to it. But if you’re looking for CGI explosions I guess you wouldn’t like it.
I'd rather watch The French Connection 100 times over than all the woke trash made today

@@lisaroberts8556 maybe, but that's not why I hate it.
True but I agree with Ant, the French Connection is not good. I’ve tried multiple times to watch it and it is boring as hell
French Connection kicks fucking ass. The second one isn't as good but is a nice conclusion to the Popeye Doyle story.
Back then there was not much else to compare things to, so anything new that got people gripping the armrests in a movie theater was enough to nominate it. I heard that the very first movie that showed a locomotive pulling into a station made people in the theater scream out loud, because they thought it was going to burst through the screen and into the theatre
Must’ve been a black theater lol
The yelling Gene Hackman drive scene reminded me of the chase scene in blues Brothers....
It's what police work actually is all about. Waiting and watching, Dennis Farrina said that's why The French Connection is the best police movie around.

funny how anthony finally admitted he just was brainwashed by the media about 9/11 - now with the pandemic and election and everything he admits the media is a sham and he might have been wrong about 911
@@DeathRiderDoom he never admitted that, he was mocking them. he’s not that stupid to be ignorant about physics and engineering. The worlds top leading controlled demolition experts all agree it’s not a CD. You have videotape evidence right in front of your face. It’s up to you to look at it or not. The US government are bunch of morons they’re not geniuses like you conspiracy people think.
@Game Gallows do you have a link? Because I’ve seen him tear apart Jim’s conspiracy theories as well as Patrice‘s conspiracy theories.
Anyways what do you think nano thermite, or dust weapons from outer space?
@Game Gallows Lol I did what you said like a big boy and immediately recognized the video I saw it when it first came out, at no point does Anthony ever suggest it was an inside job, fake planes or controlled demolition. He just said he thought the Pentagon would be more secure.
Or do you think everything was a hologram that day? I saw the second plane go in from New Jersey and the towers collapse. Are you calling me a liar? Do you know anything about control demolitions, the strength of steel, or radio frequencies?
You’re just being a coward and you’re too ignorant to do any research. How sad…
You should listen to Anthony, and Norton tear apart all the conspiracy morons in other UA-cam videos. They break down the physics and facts behind everything. As ant did have a construction background and he’s quite an intellectual guy overall with his research. Including astrophysics as he loves Neil Degrasse Tyson.
20 years later man, even with agents like Edward Snowden escaping the CIA.
Get over it… The US government are not a bunch of geniuses like you think. They’re a bunch of redneck morons
T2 holds up incredibly well
The Warriors (1979) was based on the Sol Yurick (1965) novel of the same name.
