"I always think it's fun when a team has back-to-back draft picks" how about the 2015 Bruins draft?
I’m not even a Boston fan and that still makes me shudder
Montreal mastered the back to back with Tuch Mysak
Seems a very NE thing - poor scouting and drafting; looking at the Pats, Sox and Celtics
When the next picks were Barzal, Chabot, and Connor. They'd have won a cup with those 3.
That was a back - to back - to back pick😂
And the worst in NHL history😢
Grier seems to be patient in his approach (while also not hesitating to scorch the team if they’re Not trying), which is a good sign for SJ.
I'm interested to see how Grier's approach to this team turns out. You can never be sure about a GM, but I'm optimistic.
He's solid
Grier has been cooking this off-season
Always likes Grier. He will do what he always does, make a difference.
Pardon my ignorance. What is Grier's experience?
I think he's doing a fantastic job so far
Grier is cooking right now and finally able to do what he wants with the team…
If Eiserman is available and he doesnt draft him, he definately isnt cooking, he pretty much set himself on fire. Eiserman and WIll Smith already know how to play together and Celebrini and Eiserman are close friends... At 11 you take Eiserman, Catton, Konsta or Senneke. If he traded up to draft Yakemchuk, hes a bigger bozo than he was last year. The dmen that will be available at 11 are not the big rated Dmen of this draft. Draft Eiserman and you have the potential 1st line of the future. He screwed up last year by passing on the best scorer of the draft in Michkov, dont let it happen 2 years in a row.
@@HitmanHockeyCards Eiserman's completely one-dimensional and is free-falling down the draft list.
@@MK-jc6zz They NEED a scoring winger. And he already knows Will Smiths game.
@@MK-jc6zz Also, never forget all the idiots that passed on Michkov cause "hes russian and wont come over" - Grier being one of them. Michkov was also the best scorer in his class like eiserman. Grier really should not pass on the top goal scorer 2 years in a row. You can land quality Dmen in the later rounds way more easily than a pure scorer
@@HitmanHockeyCards he didint but man Dickinson is also a great pick
It doesnt make any sense to buy out Atkinson. Hes got 1 year left, the team isnt going to win the cup this year, and they could possibly offload him for a pick at the deadline.
Hockey season may be over, but The Hockey Guy is just getting started with these off season topics! Hockey is still here ya'll. Draft is as important, if not more interesting time of year.
I wonder if the Sharks try to jump in the draft again. It looks like they are trying to land one of the big 6 Defensemen. It makes a lot of sense for them to go for it. You would think one of the big 6 should still be there, but I think there are a few teams that would be open to trading down.
except Buffalo
@@dennishaley2821 ?
GREAT NEWS TO ALL Y'ALL CANUCKS IS FANS LIKE SHANNY! Tyler Myers is back with Vancouver Baby😆 3x$3Mil. 🤑
I really hope Demko is ok and we don't need to spend money on a goalie... After getting Petterson, Hronek, Blueger and Joshua all at good numbers and the low retention on the amazing Mikheyev dump we are sitting really pretty, I say let DeSmith, Myers, Cole and Lindholm go. Try and bring back Zadorov at a decent number and bring in a Tanev or Dumba to play his right side. Then you still have a ton to either go after a top winger, or preferably someone like a Tyler Toffoli at around $5 mil and then you could look at someone better than Tanev/Dumba or maybe look at bringing in a vet to play bottom 6 like a Pavelski?!
The Demko stuff is just Canucks media & fans blowing something completely out of proportion, Thatcher Is Fine , what did we think the Canucks were gonna do roll into next season thinking with 100 percent certainty Demko & Silovs will both be 100 percent healthy the entire time…. NO so of course there gonna sign another goalie it would make ZERO sense they wouldn’t or do we want Nikita Tolopilo or Sawchenko 2 fringe AHL starters possibly playing must win NHL games next season for us , and I do hope it is Desmith cuz the guy was pretty clutch against the Preds he only lost the starting role cuz he got hurt as well
The oilers should make Kieth Gretzky as GM
😆
There’s no debate about Troubadour here in Rangerland, he’s got to go.
Why? We already have the BIGGEST and best prospect pool - quality over quantity - they should trade the picks for a good vet.
I like Grier, he looks like he's gonna be a Guerin type of G.M.. He appreciated hard hockey, but this is a dumb move. How can you move 3 slots for a 2nd? Burroughs is tough as nails but only an A.H.L. defenceman. Grundstrom might be a good 4th line piece.
I think it's fine when you consider the Sharks had 3 2nds. They still own their own (33) and Tampa's (53), so giving up #42 (Devils) isn't the worst thing ever. They're now guaranteed 1 of Catton/Sennecke/Eiserman and also a much better chance of a top 6 D prospect falling to them. They couldn't control who fell to #14 so having #11 gives more peace of mind IMO.
@@matt_thompson85 I get it. But how do you trade a 2nd 2 days before a draft? He doesn't know what or what won't be available. I know, Im just an armchair G.M., but I still think its a wasteful move. I hope Grier doesn't lose sleep over my opinion...lol
@@BlackbeanCatVC15I think they know what they’re doing lmao they need as much top end talent as they can get at this stage, they’ve been doing great on depth players they need talent
I might agree in other years drafts but not this one, moving up 3 spots could be all the difference in landing one of those dmen.
Our demon baby noooooooooooooo whoever did this will payyyyyy hope Demko can get healthy he’s is a high top 10 goalie when healthy if we loose him that sucks Silovs is great but Demko is a difference maker
Great video as always. Go ducks!
Griers bro failed hard in nfl
Gonna be a great party at the tank tomorrow 🥳🎉🎉
At this point Hockey Guy it may be worth a video to just.look at Mike Grier's moves this past week.
now the Sabres can draft 9 players who are undersized and their names are unpronounceable please help us!!
I hear ya. I'm hoping there is another plan with perhaps trading off some of these picks for actual established NHL caliber players.
Grundström will be a nice addition for the Sharks.
Full of heart, though buried on the 3-4 lines in LA, should be interesting on a young Sharks team.
@@thomasbrown9402 Yeah, the guy has grit and can score.
@@vipeholmskolan6052 Grundy just has no clue in the d-zone and his skating is a bit sub par. I like him in the bottom 6 role with his offense and grit. Wish LA got rid of Lizotte instead
Trouba should put his no trade list on his elbow, that way everyone will eventually see it.
this is the best comment in the section.
He also misses a lot of hits because his elbow gets in the way of his eye sight😣
Love this move for the Sharks to get up to 11. Hated the idea that they'd reach for a D-man like Solberg at 14. Way more options here to grab a top 6 D-man or one of the top forwards if they slip to 11
Grier cookin'. Its going to be a process and some patience but san jo on the move for the upcoming future. Lets go!!
Grundstrom is actually pretty decent.
Shannon, you just think back-to-back picks are great because Sedin's. :P
That said, I'd have to say they are the best ever back-to-back team picks I can remember, EVER! :)
The witchcraft that was pulled to acquire both Sedins still amazes me to this day.
Glad that I turned off the debate to watch this 😂
San Jose should get Brent Burns 2.0 in Zayne Parekh
It is fun when teams have back to back picks ... unless it's Boston.
Looks like the sabres GM talked to brandon beane the GM of the buffalo bills because he made the same move our football team did and i love it. More assets is solid
Works for both clubs. This allows us to land someone like Yakemchuk or Silayev as we need to build our blue line. For Buffalo there’s a good chance that Eiserman will be available at 14.
Sharks still have two picks in round two.
Feels like a good move for both teams.
is that a gary bettman picture in the background??
Yup.
Myers resigned. What does this mean for zadorov?
Do you not have one in your house somewhere??
The last video I saw I wrote that the pic made me howl and then I deleted the message because I wasn't 100 percent sure if that was Bettman or not 😂
Thank god, Burroughs might have been the worst D man in the league.
I think Calen Addison was far far worse. At least Burroughs would throw hits and defend his guys, Addison only seemed to get tough with the refs lol.
@@ianhall6614 The whole D was terrible, but Burroughs in particular did not look like he even belonged in the NHL. The number of D zone turnovers were ridiculous.
@@ianhall6614 They both sucked. 👍
Aaaaaaand it offseason
Myers signed, if Trouba goes I hope not my Leafs.
Was hoping Sabres GM Kevin Adams would do something else with that #11 pick honestly. We're getting pretty antsy here lol.
Admitedly I'm not a deep thinker when it comes to what the Sharks may or may not do, but with Smith and Mack in the (hopefully) near pipeline and these moves they are making, they might just be able to grab a few UFA's attention and build a much better team sooner than later.
In the present era, what is the rough timeline for a team that sucks and rebuilding to significantly improve?
Likely another bad year before they're at all contending for a spot in the playoffs. The fresh blood needs time to develop and another high pick couldn't hurt (top 5 would be amazing).
Definitely one more year spent at the bottom, hopefully a little more competitive than last year. Could see them as a potential playoff team in as little as 3-4 years. Gotta get the new guys settled in first
Demko, DeSmith AND Shillovs is the way to go. Look to so many teams in the playoffs. You need 3 goalies. Heck, look at your own run this year.
Of they had to have only two tho, Desmith would probably go. Shilovs was really good in the playoffs, and well, demko is demko
Close..Closer.
Silovs
There is only one problem, cap space.
I agree, having those three was extremely fortunate for Vancouver’s playoffs, if we didn’t have a competent backup and a third as dependable as Silovs ended up being, the Canucks would have been out much sooner.
I would like to keep all three and hopefully give Demko more rest so that these injuries don’t keep happening, I just don’t know if the cap money is there.
Trouba went from everyone but Rangers fans hating him to everyone hating him.
When you disappear in the playoffs and fall to the 3rd pairing while being paid THAT much, Ranger fans have put up with enough of that. Would like to see them move on from him.
Hi Shannon!...
Nuks wanna trade demko that's why (jk)
wondering your thoughts on the blues hiring Claude Julien and promoting Steve Ott
I hope he goes up even more. I want Buium, but he won’t be there at 11th. They should try to package the 11th, 32nd and maybe a player like Bordeleau for the 5th or 6th pick, see who takes it lol. That’s worth Buium. They need a star D prospect and I don’t think Yakemchuk is that. At 11th I’d still prefer Eiserman over Yakemchuk.
The most fun I've ever had with Back to Back picks is when Vancouver had Picks 2 and 3 in 1999 and No one else from that draft is remembered for anything Good they did Sorry Steffan.
This going to be pretty interesting next couple days lol
To be fair, there's no "discussion" about Trouba in Rangers land. We want him GONE.
The fact that Canucks GM Patrik Alvin mentioned in his interview he spoke with Silovs on his future with the team and he expects him to be on the big team next year leads me to believe Demko may get traded when you consider they expressed interest in resigning DeSmith.
There better be more going on with Buffalo than that. Was hoping to trade pick plus whatever for a player to plug into the line up. Meh
Grundy is a solid bottom six guy and I hope the best, Roy will be a bad contract in a couple years for any team.
Silovs is 23 - you can't keep him in the minors for ever.
See ya Burrows!
grier is damn near making a move per day
Sharks are trading up in front of the Flyers and Wild (2 teams that need scoring) to grab Cole Eiserman
Jacob Trouba for Tory Krug? :)
Erik Brainstorm is an incredibly unremarkable defenseman. But knowing the Sens luck he'll sign somewhere else and become a 40 point defensemen
The top 14 of the draft are set in stone through all the competitive mocks. Celbrini/demidov/levshunov/silavev/lindstrom/buuim/parekh/dickinson/catton/ignla/sennecke/yakemchuk/eiserman/helenius in no particular order 2-14. You would be guaranteed one of those guys at 14, withstanding someone also reaching, giving Grier more options. This trade signifies to me that there’s at least 2 of these guys Grier ABSOLUTELY DOESN'T want. He wants bigger tougher players so I feel like he wouldn’t want someone like parekh or catton, even if them falling to 14 would be a godsend.
Canucks just signed Myers! They're not waiting around to get things done. Silovs put in a gutsy effort in the playoffs, but I didn't see him starting next season in Vancouver. It's probably better for his development to play a lot more games in Abbotsford and then he comes back again as the 3rd (or 2nd depending on who the backup is) goalie for the playoffs.
Probably dont want to rush Silovs and want a veteran backup still. Keep Silovs AHL starter and let him play a few games in the show during the year.
The rangers signed Trouba with the expectation that he would be what Fox is, a top defenseman and pp quarterback. With the cap staying flat for the Covid years and his playing issues, he’s just too expensive for what he gives.
I think Chris Drury is looking to really shake up the rangers core and that Kakko and Trouba are likely gone as soon as he can make a deal
I'd go to one of the teams that Roy wants to go to and rent his rights for a pick... This way the Kings don't lose him for anything... If signed during the draft...the pick is either this year's or a 2025 mid round pick...
3:02 more likely Silovs doesn’t have to pass through waivers so he can play more and develop better in Abby and we can still call him up and down risk free
The only reason Trouba is rumored to be moved is because of the cap hit. but 4mil is better than 8 and we have a back log of d-men who will be moved if Trouba's contract can't be Igor needs to get paid
Alvin keeping you busy
Now myers
I could see the devils picking up Matt Roy.
I think moving on from brannstrom is a mistake if the sens do it
Troba is going to be with the rangers.
truba wii still be a ranger in ocober
Trouba will be in NY
Matt Roy to Boston ?
Trouba to Chicago?
Back to back picks reminds me of the Bruins Debrusk draft that they f'd up so royally.
lol Grier might not have back-to-back picks, but he will definately fk that 11th pick up royally if he takes a dman
Trouba.
Bruins should trade korpisalo to the Canucks for a goalie. I’d be OK if they got back a bag of chips
Poutine?
@@defectiveindustries I mean, I think that would be fair too although really I don’t like the brown gravy on poutine I’d rather have some southern country gravy on it
nucks could trade for campbell? lmmfao he has experience
No
@@Merlin_From_Shrek_3 hahahaha
So the draft pick from the Erik Karlsson trade is now in the hands of Buffalo. I wonder (if anything) if the trade had Buffalo losing a top ten pick (which of course it was not) back to Pittsburgh? The Penguins had a slim to none chance in the draft lottery to retain their pick this year. Instead, it will be another looooong season for the Penguins.
The Erik Karlsson trade tree is looking to be headed towards the Steve Dangle hall of fame at this rate
I don't understand this comment.
As a penguins fan we are in such shambles. 🥲
If the Rangers can move on from Trouba that’d be my Christmas in July.
If we’re not on the list, give him to my Sharks for more picks baby.
50% retained or 25% with a 1st rounder Kyle from Chicago might be listening.
Trouba wasn't the liability on defense; his advanced stats were good, and even though he had a handful of penalties against Florida, the Panthers did not score when Trouba was in the box. Gustafsons' advanced stats were dreadful; so many giveaways had almost no takeaways.
@@thunderhammerx2966 I don’t pour into to advance stats so you got me there. I get that he was playing through injury, but the eyeball test seemed liked he was a huge liability this postseason. Especially for his contract. Not a huge Gus fan either, I think another team will give him a pay bump.
@Tyler-di4kq Trouba was undoubtedly injured after the high total of blocked shots he put up in the playoffs. That full speed slapper he blocked with his ribs during the Washington series could have easily been dogging him the whole rest of the way. He was out there bleeding for New York, but a bunch of fans want him to be the scapegoat for the playoff exit. Frankly, it's a little sad.
Shawn Horcoff as GM in Edmonton wouldn’t surprise me.
I feel bad for Petersen. He's not a terrible goalie, he just ends-up on teams that make him look bad.
Nothing bad about Kyle but that Carl.
