You can choose different grade levels for each course under the manage students tab on the parent account. This is also where you can set the number of steps your child must complete each week. Students can see from the video page if they have completed enough steps by clicking on the resource tab on the right side of the screen. You can also find text instructions on some of the courses there for further help.

I just popped in because I was one of the families whose accounts were affected when they randomly got rid of Tutor Mode in April. I wasn't even using Tutor Mode and my kid's progress was still deleted. THANK GOD I was using Powerhomeschool as a supplement, and not as our main method of instruction as we lost all of our progress nearly at the end of the school year. Now that I see some of the other programs available, I feel like there are better options. The company had horrible communication with us--no emails, only Facebook statuses that said everything from their site had been hacked, to they sold the company. It was a mess.

This is a well-intended review but a few key points aren't quite right - if you use PHS for a while, you'll get to know some of the ins and outs better. For instance, you can select different grade levels for different classes under the Manage Student section. You can also adjust the number of daily steps your child needs to complete to speed up or slow down their learning. Your child can check their progress by clicking the resources tab in the upper right corner of each screen. If you prefer videos not automatically play, you can switch the program to tutoring mode and the student will be taken to the syllabus after each video or set of questions. Tutoring mode is what most of the controversy has been about since it's preferred by many homeschoolers. It gives the parent full control over the order and steps your child takes. PHS has fixed most of the issues as of Fall 2024. There are still a few quirks that us homeschoolers gripe about, but overall, it's good. We've been using it for 7 years. They've made some updates this year - I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Yes this is a pretty hands off program for parents. You might prefer to mix and match. In my home we like curriculums that have textbooks/print worksheets but also include online video lessons. So we watch the lesson together and then I help with the work that needs to be done. EIW is great for writing, and we just started dimensions math with the videos included. I kinda said that didn't I?
PHS purchased Acellus and Acellus is accredited. PHS is not, but Acellus accepts the transcripts from PHA up thru the 8th grade.
What people need to be asking themselves is "will my state accept Acellus credits" and will my child stay in PHA all the way followed by Acellus highschool?
If one cannot afford to hold these for that many years then you're kinda screwed when the future arrives.
Neither school makes this very clear or easy to find at all. Not to mention the accredited side of Acellus is $249 per child per month. If you opted for the $25 package it's simply a tutor to help your child with low grades and other issues from a REAL school they also attend..
P.S. Don't confuse the terminology of homeschool vs online school online school IS school at home no?
People like myself simply call it homeschool because I am the entity forcing the studies, even though we're all still paying the taxes for the REAL brick and mortar schools, buses teachers etc.

@@AmandaMelrose when you complete each course you do print off a diploma. At the end of the school year when all classes are completed, before stopping the paid subscription for the school year, you request a transcript and they send it to your email where you print it off. We just completed our first year with them, one in 3rd grade the other in 5th. During the year each day we print the list of activities completed that day, then at the end of each week we also print out their attendance, hours spent and report card that shows your grade point average for documentation. Power Homeschool had a "Tutor Mode" that you could switch to any time you wanted and in that mode you were able to rewatch videos. You could also skip lessons or watch the lessons in any order you wanted. You would not get credit for the course unless every lesson was completed, however. Many families would use it occasionally or even stay in tutor mode permanently for that flexibility, but last spring they suddenly deleted Tutor Mode without any warning whatsoever, and many families lost all of their completed work. I believe they replaced the Tutor Mode with something similar but you have to pay extra for it. @@worriedscroll
