I just popped in because I was one of the families whose accounts were affected when they randomly got rid of Tutor Mode in April. I wasn't even using Tutor Mode and my kid's progress was still deleted. THANK GOD I was using Powerhomeschool as a supplement, and not as our main method of instruction as we lost all of our progress nearly at the end of the school year. Now that I see some of the other programs available, I feel like there are better options. The company had horrible communication with us--no emails, only Facebook statuses that said everything from their site had been hacked, to they sold the company. It was a mess.
I’d also love to know the other programs. We are in the process of trying to figure out the next school year and wanting to switch to a virtual formal for middle/high school
My son already learned about order of operations last year, so I’d really love to let him skip it and move onto the next lesson. We’ve also found that you can’t seem to skip through videos once you click on them. Overall, I think it’s good , but having more flexibility would be very important to me. Do you have a recommendation for an alternative? Thanks.
Are you talking about printing the reports on here? You don't need to but depending on your state's requirements you might want to for your records. Or you could save the PDFs to your computer as well. I recommend doing that periodically because you never know what if Power Homeschool got hacked and lost all your data? It can happen! If you have general questions on getting started homeschooling, I have some videos on my channel and some articles on my website eschooled.com as well. Good luck in your homeschool adventure!
This is a well-intended review but a few key points aren't quite right - if you use PHS for a while, you'll get to know some of the ins and outs better. For instance, you can select different grade levels for different classes under the Manage Student section. You can also adjust the number of daily steps your child needs to complete to speed up or slow down their learning. Your child can check their progress by clicking the resources tab in the upper right corner of each screen. If you prefer videos not automatically play, you can switch the program to tutoring mode and the student will be taken to the syllabus after each video or set of questions. Tutoring mode is what most of the controversy has been about since it's preferred by many homeschoolers. It gives the parent full control over the order and steps your child takes. PHS has fixed most of the issues as of Fall 2024. There are still a few quirks that us homeschoolers gripe about, but overall, it's good. We've been using it for 7 years. They've made some updates this year - I'm looking forward to seeing them.
I didn’t understand the absent thing either because my child has absent and I tried to go on it myself. I don’t know if I’m missing something but I’ve tried several times and nothing happens. I can’t do anything with it so I just gotta leave it blank and she makes it up so so.
What i dont like is that, im not sure how to teach my kids. I feel like them watching videos after video isnt allowing them to comprehend. I assumed there was going to be a way for me to teach or step in .
Yes this is a pretty hands off program for parents. You might prefer to mix and match. In my home we like curriculums that have textbooks/print worksheets but also include online video lessons. So we watch the lesson together and then I help with the work that needs to be done. EIW is great for writing, and we just started dimensions math with the videos included. But it's definitely pricier that way.
This is about Power Homeschool, but they use the Acellus Academy curriculum. Acellus Academy is the online private school version and Power Homeschool is the homeschool version.
I’m confused as I thought power homeschool and Accellus academy were two different programs? So, is this a video about power homeschool or Accellus? I am interested in one or the other but like that power homeschool is only $25/month rather than $79(basic package) at Accellus. But I want to give my kiddos the better education more importantly so am very interested as to why I should choose the more expensive program over the less expensive program. Please help!
This is about Power Homeschool. It's basically the exact same thing (same exact curriculum, slightly different inteface) and it's the same company. The only difference is Acellus Academy is considered a school, so they can issue transcripts and a diploma wheras power homeschool is an online curriculum for homeschoolers.
Im currently using time for learning, 25 a month no contract. I have access to K to 2nd grade leverl subjects of Language Arts, math, science and social studies. Hi I've been using my cell as for several years now and love the new update how do you go about putting more than one student on one account is it because you just choose multiple courses with different grade levels?

This was part of the whole fiasco that happened earlier this year. Power Homeschool had a "Tutor Mode" that you could switch to any time you wanted and in that mode you were able to rewatch videos. You could also skip lessons or watch the lessons in any order you wanted. You would not get credit for the course unless every lesson was completed, however.
