My Russian teacher (is abour 70 years old today) used to tell me that they would hit them with a metal bar on their feet in order to get the ballet moved right. So they had bruises all over their feet but they had to endure it...
TBH that doesn't sound likely to me. Hit feet with a metal bar and you are likely to break bones. They're very delicate. The last thing they want is to cripple their dancers.

Even she is a great actress on stage as well with superb musicality. She should be recorded for a future generation in All ballet vocabulary.

I have always enjoyed watching Svetlana perform, both on UA-cam & in person. I understand how people gain the impression that she lacks certain acting abilities or "passion" but I think her performances are always very truthful and real. There's never any over the top facial expressions or gestures. The couple of times I have seen her dance, have been transformative. She is an incredible being to watch & not just because of her obvious technique & ability. She is very deep in her interpretations and I love that. You can tell she immerses herself in the role. Some people don't see it but I think her acting is pretty underrated :)
Svetlana and Andrei are perfection. We are blessed our creator gave her to us during our lifetime. You cannot have a better audience than this. They are so appreciative.

she is simply IDEAL. I think , in my opinion, she is the most complete dancer of this century. She is ideal in ALL ballets,all roles, any role. :-) I mean, I can't find a ballet where she is no good. it's a joy to see her dancing. I'd love to see again as Raymonda. but I think she does not dance that role anymore. I think. but she would be lovely as Raymonda.
Tatyania Tereknova is as great as Svetlana - and very similar. They both have technique that borders on the incredible, combined with aristocratic temperment and incisive acting ability. Tereknova is actually a much better actress than Zakarova while being as great a technician. Check out her Kitri, Myrta and Gamzatti.

How can you say that Svetlana has a great technique but she is not an artist? Please see Swan Lake (especially the performance with Roberto Bolle) or Giselle (the scene of the Giselle's madness). In the role of Odile/Odette I think that she is the best... I cried the first time I saw her in this role. She passed me a lot of emotions!!!!
People dont like perfection. If its something they can't achieve they start to find fault. Usually with "great skills but no passion". As if you can achieve the skills without putting hard work, which ironically requires passion. It happens not only in dance but in anything art related or even sport related >.>
Because she's an automaton. Technical excellence does not ipso facto exclude emotional depth...but in this case, technique is what you get. They are well matched, these two - technicians but not warmly human. Not that DON Q is all that profound.
This is the first time I've ever seen him dance....i have to that if i am only to say that i am very impressed by him is not only a severe understatement but and insult to him...Svetlana was wonderful as usual!! They truly did an amazing job...

How can you say that Svetlana has a great technique but she is not an artist? Please see Swan Lake (especially the performance with Roberto Bolle) or Giselle (the scene of the Giselle's madness). In the role of Odile/Odette I think that she is the best... I cried the first time I saw her in this role. She passed me a lot of emotions!!!!
People dont like perfection. If its something they can't achieve they start to find fault. Usually with "great skills but no passion". As if you can achieve the skills without putting hard work, which ironically requires passion. It happens not only in dance but in anything art related or even sport related >.>

Because she's an automaton. Technical excellence does not ipso facto exclude emotional depth...but in this case, technique is what you get. They are well matched, these two - technicians but not warmly human. Not that DON Q is all that profound.
