I agree that it is ultimately not our job to understand every single one of God’s commands and that it is our job to obey, but there are many people whose lack of understanding acts as a stumbling block to them entering the faith, and for others it was their lack of understanding that led them to leaving the faith, and lack of understanding can be dangerous, if a bad priest were to preach something heretical during the Mass, a layman with greater understanding of God’s word could avoid this as a spiritual pitfall, understanding can be helpful and in some instances God commands that we understand, Proverbs 4:1 “Hear, O children, a father’s instruction, be attentive, that you may gain understanding!”
St. Jose Maria Escriva de Balaguer is among my favorite Saints. I can relate to him as the first and only time he said the Novus Ordo Missae he did not hide his complete displeasure. St. Pope Paul Vl granted him permission to say the Tridentine Mass for the rest of his life.
Jesus does not tell us we should not understand. He says we should believe. We should believe with understanding, for faith and reason are not contradictory or incompatible. Jesus teaches us to love, and obedience to God's law and God's will is how we love God. Jesus does not teach obedience for its own sake.
Faith seeks understanding. You are correct Joseph that we cannot separate faith and reason, for to do so you fall into one error or another (fideism and rationalism respectively.)
True but understanding the why helps a lot especially when it comes to the conversion of souls and one shouldn't just blindly follow things that being said there are some things that we are just going to have the humility to trust God with and just believe because its easy to have faith when you know everything not so much when its not. (i'm talking about mysteries f the Faith like the trinity I don't know how to explain it it makes sense to my soul I know its true but intellectually I am having difficulty wrapping my head around it but then this is just one of these things where I have simply decided to trust what has been revealed to be true through Christ and his Bride)
Quite impressed that you put the video of my favourite contemporary pragmatic Saint : Josemaria Escriva . The saint of ordinary life. Sadly, Opus dei today is seemingly not standing up for the truths of the faith. Just like the Jesuits today have seemingly betrayed their noble founders' ideals.
@@franklinhidalgo3683 The Jesuit downturn has been well documented by numerous authoritative writers in recent decades. My disappointment with opus dei began when they began persecuting a certain Priest from Ivory Coast because he dared to seek clarification from this controversial pope over some pertinent questions that touch on the very foundations of long-standing catholic faith, doctrine and morals.
The commandment does not say " Honor thy father and Mother as long as they do not abuse you physically, mentally, psychologically , sexually". Is that right?
Obey G_D and His commandments - absolutely YES but not false shepherds masquerading as the voice of the Church and absolutely not to the calls and sirens of the age. We are not to be lulled into conformity by false shepherds that alter and change the Word of G_D. We are endowed with faculties of thinking and discernment hence understanding is an essential aspect of these gifts - after all G_D made us in His image. Even The friend of G_D , Abraham, discoursed with G_D and His ultimately guide was G_D’s word.
Im sorry but i completely disagree with this basis of this video. I am catholic and i pray daily. I am a sinner and i am human. But this, this is not from God our Father. We are not Jesus, we are certainly not God. We must be humble as evil knows no humility. But this is dangerous teaching. In such an evil world, we cannot afford to not ask questions and not wqnt to understand more. We actually must learn as much as possible to know what we are really up against. Under our Creators grace, guidance and protection . Thank you
@@spiritualwarfareseries If there is one thing that a Christian cannot allege or complain about, it is that God does not provide proof of his existence over the millennia. Unlike Muslims, when they are cornered with a lack of evidence or do not understand, they say they believe without understanding. Our Christian Faith is based on real evidence, if it weren't the case, Christianity would be another religion invented by humans.
@@starlightHTI agree with you in regards to we having evidence of God. However the point being made here is the same one in the Book of Job. In the Book Job is angry and questions God’s motives, but God rebukes him asking where Job was when he (God) set the cornerstone of the world. Jesus gave the same example in the parable of the land owner that paid everyone the same at the end of the day though they hadn’t all worked the same hours. We as humans don’t know the machinations of God, so there are times when we must obey only to understand why at a later time. Now Islam demands your submission to rule , Christ asks for your permission to rule. That’s the difference.
Certain things take an obedient faith. That doesn't mean you are completely ignorant or unable to articulate your faith, but we are only human and do not perfectly understand the mysteries of God.
@@vakonightsbane9044 I have a problem as I have had the privilege of seeing the Sacred and the profane with my own eyes, there is not a bit of doubt in my heart and Christianity is rational and easy to prove with clear evidence. We can understand (God's plan) it and it is explained to us time and time again, Christianity has no secrets or cult behaviors. Christ does not want to rule you, Jesus wants your heart and for you to follow him. Islam is religion invented by a PDF, WarLord, slave trader, slave owner, racist, sexual pervert, colonizer and genocidal known as Muhammad

Obedience is born of deep love for God.

When we are students by obeying concerning some commands given to us we are at the same time becoming more undertanding too.

Can you explain how that is the case?… my experience is quite the opposite

I feel like there's a specific story behind the thumbnail image but I don't know what it is. Care to share? It's intriguing.
You will understand after you pass…………you can only understand after you pass……….you need to pass first.

I am absolutely against this (Muslim) idea that we don't need to understand, we just need to obey. Islamic doctrine
then you should probably read what Jesus said to St. Faustina in regards to this. Just pointing it out.
