It seems that is the case. I don’t know if it’s just me but the hunger, passion, energy and aggression in Virat seems to have lowered significantly. It was those factors that made oppositions fear Virat Kohli. Right now, Virat looks easy to put pressure on, we just don’t see the oppositions getting nervy against Virat as much as they did pre-2020.
Virat needs to score a classic hundred or double like Sachin's 241* , he was also going through a rough patch in Test cricket that time but sticked to his natural game and made important changes. But that innings has to come early in the series to ensure India's win.

The one-day correlation is an excellent one. It's the format in which he truly laid the foundation for becoming a great player. Even if it's not big daddy hundreds from him, I wish to hard-grind out innings from him like Pujara.
One thing that I am almost 100% sure about is that Virat would look to play attacking cricket in this series unlike last so many years where he has been playing very defensive cricket in test matches and my main concern is that his attacking shots against fast bowlers should not be cover drive(his biggest villain for more than a decade) and cut shot(I have heard he played a cut shot in match simulation 2 days back) which is the only shot he has never been able to play well at all. I think he will play Nathan Lyon well because pitches here won't be spinning much and this year, his attacking game against spinners has improved.
For me as a Fan, Virat has nothing more to prove, the only reason I wish him runs is to experience the pure Joy of watching him bat, the longer the better!

The passion is not in question, a player of Virat Kohli's stature is bound to be back soon . There is the niggling thought though that spin has been his nemesis. Going through the rigorous of first class cricket, especially on challenging Indian pitches should do him a world of good. He retired from T20i, some of that time playing a longer format, Indian cricket becomes the beneficiary. Quality time with family is important too, especially when having a young family. He just needs that tweak, that fire stroked again before eventually walking into the sunset as a modern day great.

What an unbiased pre series opinion this! Really on point with regards to Kohli’s recent form. It is true that Kohli hasn’t performed that well in the recent home season, but it has to be seen that the number of matches that India played are very less too. Additionally, it is not like the whole team is performing and he is the only one who isn’t. We just have to be patient and you never know Kohli could prove everyone wrong once again on a tour in Australia like he has done multiple times through his career.

Nobody absolutely nobody with such bad stats for last 5 years should be in the team unless youre virat kohli . I still think that he is the most important player in indian cricket team . Even the net bowlers who had no say in “A” games with India losing both, troubled these champion batsmen in the nets. Everyone is under pressure and getting injured in mere practice sessions. KL Rahul’s star father-in-law, Sunil Shetty might be the power behind his continued appearance for India. Gill was dropped from Indian side in 2023 after his initial surge, stood his ground briefly in NZ series and is being considered a solution against the mighty Aussies. Also, so much optimism about Rohit is also surprising. What he can do special to save Team India is a big question. Yes, he will come back from vacation but don’t see him making a great impact. Kohli had a string of dismissals against the pacers, you can compile his mode of dismissals in the last couple of years and you will see all of that. However, he struggled against spin also recently, so it is an overall failure. Still, I have heard fans expecting 3-4 hundreds from him in BGT which is next to impossible. King Kohli is currently performing like Babar Azam to be honest. Only plus Indian batters have is the fact that Aussies have the same bowling attack for the last so many years and if they get tired somehow then Indian lower order and the top order survivors, if any, might capitalize. I still believe had Aus “A” bowlers were played in BGT by Aussies then they would trouble Indian main side more and more as they are not known with reference to the IPL as well and are effective as we recently saw. I believe, if Sundar is given a chance, then he will emerge as a reliable batter for India who can also bowl. Ashwin, Jadeja will have no great success either and specially for Ashwin there is a long history of him being in-effective with the ball outside India. Only Sarfraz was able to play the 150 knock and would have been ensured that he would be the automatic choice for tests but unfortunately, he had to listen whether he should play the next test. This dented his confidence and in the next innings he was as unsuccessful as many others who are still an automatic choice (KL/Kohli). It will be so discouraging for the youngsters to see such maneuvers. I think he should be played and Kohli or KL can be dropped.
2018 and 2021 Series wins in Australia .How many does recognise the contribution of Cheteshwar Pujara and how many talks about it. It is understandable that a player of Virat's calibre is very much marketable to create the much needed hype. I wish we start to focus more on team game rather talking a lot about a particular individual.
More than that, our top order needs to get runs....Not sure going into the perth test, but Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill,Virat all have to chip in and stay there for long hours, our best case scenario is Sydney, Melbourne and the gabba. This tour is make or break of careers of many whether young or old players. For example, if Rohit, Virat or KL Rahul fails, its their end of careers and retirement call. If Yashwashi or Sarfaraz or Shubnam fails, they will end up as another inconsistent Rohit for rest of their career. But if Sarfaraz fails then he will end up as another Pruthvi shah and Vinod Kambli bcoz he does not have much support from BCCI or Team. The only way he can survive is by scoring big in this tour. King Kohli is currently performing like Babar Azam to be honest.
Only plus Indian batters have is the fact that Aussies have the same bowling attack for the last so many years and if they get tired somehow then Indian lower order and the top order survivors, if any, might capitalize. I still believe had Aus “A” bowlers were played in BGT by Aussies then they would trouble Indian main side more and more as they are not known with reference to the IPL as well and are effective as we recently saw.
I believe, if Sundar is given a chance, then he will emerge as a reliable batter for India who can also bowl. Ashwin, Jadeja will have no great success either and specially for Ashwin there is a long history of him being in-effective with the ball outside India.
Only Sarfraz was able to play the 150 knock and would have been ensured that he would be the automatic choice for tests but unfortunately, he had to listen whether he should play the next test. This dented his confidence and in the next innings he was as unsuccessful as many others who are still an automatic choice (KL/Kohli). It will be so discouraging for the youngsters to see such maneuvers. I think he should be played and Kohli or KL can be dropped.
All of us have our fingers crossed and thanks for reviving some hopes of a Kohli comeback, but all I can be is cautiously optimistic and nothing more.

I fear a very tough series coming up for India. Any score line less than 4-0 or 4-1 would surprise me . End of the road coming up for Kohli. He will go for expansive lose cover drives from 6-7 stump line and edge it to slips or gully. Otherwise Nathan Lyon would snap him.

Exactly, earlier I used to like him as he was very truthful analyst. Now he plays to the gallery. Kohli has not done anything for India in tests since 2019, yet they brand him as a saviour. Pujara and Rahane though inconsistent had way better contributions in Indian test victories overseas.

As a viewer, I have analysed his issues, his style of batting has made him play balls in wrong manner. the way he used to play intitally was not a very long trigger backwards. then he changed to a certain trigger. His trigger now is more towards the offstump that gives him less time to play. Moreover his judgement of spin lacks skill

This tour is make or break of careers of many whether young or old players. For example, if Rohit, Virat or KL Rahul fails, its their end of careers and retirement call. If Yashwashi or Sarfaraz or Shubnam fails, they will end up as another inconsistent Rohit for rest of their career. But if Sarfaraz fails then he will end up as another Pruthvi shah and Vinod Kambli bcoz he does not have much support from BCCI or Team. The only way he can survive is by scoring big in this tour. But, if one of them scores big then he will end up as next Sunil or Sachin or Virat for rest of career
