    the comment about the well section being a litmus test is so true, i remember when i bought the game i peeked at the most recent steam reviews, one person had played for 5 hours with paragraphs about how much of a masterpiece it was and the other had refunded after playing for 20 minutes complaining that the well section is the worst part of any game theyd played

    I loved hearing this discussion! Personally, my interpretation of the ending is that the demon all along represents Indika’s shame. The reason it disappears at the end is because she realizes even if she does all of the right things (represented by her gaining back all her faith points), her faith is always empty. We’ve seen how she runs away from this truth for the entirety of the game, but in the end it’s the only thing that truly frees her. I agree with Joe that the emptiness of the Kudets and the breaking of the rosary represent this realization and also the crossing the line of no return in terms of her faith. All in all I LOVED how weird and off putting this game was and was definitely more hot on it than either of you, but I still loved seeing your own interpretations and discussions!

    I was looking forward to a deep discussion over this game, and you definitely delivered! I haven't experienced many narrative-heavy games before this and Edith Finch. The story of the team making this reminds me of the Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich who composed symphonies as a way of protest. I don't know his operas very well, but there was a section in Indika with an opera in the background, and it could've been one he wrote...? Regardless, I think it all just shows the power art has to make us think about our world, and I love we can have these literary analyses on video games, too, just like with novels and films.
    And then to completely shift tones... I've always wanted to check out more of Donkey Kong '94, especially after playing Mario vs. Donkey Kong (I played the GBA version). Very excited for another Mario game on the pod as a big Mario fan! :P

    As someone raised Greek Orthodox, I can relate to the sentiment that Orthodoxy has affected my country way too much. Not so much the government, but mostly the people. As an example, whenever any lgbt+ positive laws get passed (i.e. gay marriage getting legalized like half a year ago), there's an absurd amount of highly religious people saying that out country has fallen and that we're a disgrace. As an lgbt person myself, it's really scary to hear that, but thankfully I live in the capital where it's less extreme, so I can for the most part waddle around with a minimal amount of fear.

    Idk if anyone else looked behind them when escaping the cops, but the fact that the guy who was shooting at you was like steps behind you and missing REALLY fucking got me 😂

    Wow. I knew nothing about this game. I was about to say this game has great graphics and then learned it changed to 8bit. Even so it is great 8 bit quality. That is a very interesting twist. Solid place on the list.
    I can't wait to see the Donkey Kong game. I played the heck out of Mario vs Donkey Kong as a child.

    Maybe for the gap with no game planned, you could play the Plucky Squire. It seems like a really cute and interesting game in terms of gameplay and it comes out September 17th.

      @@thebonuspoints got it! just wanted to say I could not recommend it more, the combat is better, open world is amazing, the story was fixed, bosses are jaw dropping towards the second half, and I cried multiple times during Barrett and Aeriths backstory. the way they took the original game and rather than remaking it they turned the story upside down to where anything is game makes the whole game full of excitement. If you have the time in your busy schedules I could not recommend it more, and there is not a better game for a podcast to theorize or discuss. Just wanted to put that out there, thank you Bonus Points!

    You keep saying it's medieval but it's clearly late C19th/early C20th. So circa 1900.

    • @Haankaas
      @Haankaas 4 місяці тому

      No, it's actually the early to mid 19th century (most likely around the time from the Decembrist revolt to the Crimean War, although that's not really relevant, just giving a specific time frame) so more like circa 1820-1860.

    • @helenwells8233
      @helenwells8233 4 місяці тому +3

      @Haankaas with the industrial elements of the game and the mention of Americans fighting in Russia at one point I feel it is later than that. Why do you think it is earlier C19th? Just interested to know. :-)

    • @Haankaas
      @Haankaas 4 місяці тому

      @@helenwells8233 Ah, I was not aware of the American reference, apologies. I was mostly judging off of the organization of the Orthodox Church (also the Tsarist elements & architecture of the town). I guess I was wrong, I haven't played the game, sorry for assuming.

    • @Haankaas
      @Haankaas 4 місяці тому

      @@helenwells8233 I will say that I think the American soldier reference is a product of the fantasized elements of the game, as I do NOT think this game is supposed to be set during the Russian civil war, that'd be far too recent (1917-1922). In general, I'd say the vibes are just late Russian Empire. Thanks for the original comment too btw :)

    *I did not hear the religious warning at the beginning of the podcast. That's my fault. My bad!*
    This game grossly misrepresents religion. What a farce.

      that's why there was a warning at the start of the video so people of religion dont watch so they don't get offended im just assuming that you skipped the warning.
