If they ever make a Black Marsh focused Elder Scrolls, I think it would be sick if they leaned less into power fantasy rpg, and more into a survival-horror rpg, just to emphasize how dangerous the place is, even for it's native inhabitants. Plus, using the guts of a giant swamp-worm as transit is both foul and metal as fuck, and would fit right in for that genre.
Wow. Thanks for making me feel old. I remember playing Mario 64 when it came out when I was 14. I remember playing Oblivion when I was almost 3p and a mother of 2. Why are you gamers so young. Excuse me while I go mourn my youth.
I figure the Dwemer caused the blindness of the Falmer by making them read Elder Scrolls. This was considered Top Secret, though. Thus, the potion story.
"(Skyrim) is an obviously Game of Thrones inspired setting." Skyrim began development in 2008 and released in 2011. Game of Thrones aired its first episode in 2011 and wouldn't become popular for a couple more years. I don't know why people keep trying to push the narrative that Skyrim = GOT, and I get the feeling the only reason they do it is because they believe Oblivion = LOTR.
@ You said Game of Thrones not ASOIAF, and the books did not contain any "aesthetics", only descriptions. Moreover they weren't mainstream popular, so claiming that Skyrim is obviously inspired by descriptions of a single northern faction in an unrelated soft fantasy novel series is a stretch in my opinion. Occam's razor tells us it's much more likely that they just both took inspirations from the same source, namely Scandinavian and Celtic peoples, with Skyrim taking more from the Scandinavians and the North taking more from the Celtics.

@@sugarcombfilms3467 another piece from another article made in 2011 that exctract an interview from todd howard before the game launch: "With A Song of Ice and Fire, we went ‘We want to do that!’," says Howard. "People in our studio liked it, and it seeped in a bit to what we were doing." But there was one problem - the soon-to-be created Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. “We wanted to do our own world. That’s where we wanted to put out time into. Before we were even making Skyrim, there was a conversation with George R.R. Martin’s people. They thought it would be a good match-and so did we, actually-but then we thought about if that was where we wanted to spend our time. It was tempting, though.” He clearly mentioned that martin books influenced their work
the books came out long before tho. The first GoT book came out in 1996 i believe. So Skyrim might have been inspired by GoT. Either way Skyrim is a beautiful game!
@ Technically the book series is a song of ice and fire, with the first in the series being GoT. Yes I did know, but clearly what this video was referring to was the TV show, not the first book in the series.
Tbh, I don't like the TESIV, TESV and ESO lore. I feel like the lore that was written in the times of TESIII, TES:Redguard and TES:Shadowkey was the most interesting one :/ I wish to see Tamriel depicted according to it
Ya I get this honestly I do hope for elder scrolls 6 they bring in even more stuff they had planned originally there is a ton of potential. I think what we have now as well is interesting too
Definitely check out Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Tamriel for Morrowind then. About 3/5ths of mainland Morrowind is playable in addition to most of the Kingdom of Anvil and most of the Kingdok of The Reach.
I think the bias of having Cyrodiil and Skyrim be the two most recent video games and therefore having the highest expectations really makes you give them less credit than they deserve. If you look past the medium of vidya and actually analyze lore and true size, the two regions offer much more than what you give credit to. While I don't necessarily feel you've treated them unfairly, I do feel that them being relatively fresh in terms of ability to be explored in a 3d worldspace is holding you back from really giving them the credit they deserve. Ultimately, it's important to remember how nerfed these two provinces are because of the limitations of video game technology. It's much easier to read about and be wow'd by locations in lore because you are hearing about them as they truly are, these grand, diverse, rich and fantastical places are something you can imagine and get interested in. I understand however that this is ultimately your own personal list, and the video is long enough as it is; so I can't really blame you. Thanks! Unrelated Edit: Also, there are a couple times you say "East", when I think you mean West. 1:23:53. The other was earlier, cant find the time stamp.
Would be nice if ES6 ended up being the majority of all of the continent rather than restricted to one or two provinces. Being able to explore more regions, like Auridon, is the only reason I started playing ESO.
@@mickey3448 ya it would be awesome for sure, my concern would be the quality if they make something that big though, kinda the same problem they had with Starfield, they would need to massively improve their procedural generation tech and variety. Technically it’s the dream scenario, but based on their current output, I don’t see that being a possibility, would rather them focus on one place and make it high quality
I love The Elder Scrolls world. I had high hopes for Starfield and after clocking around 120hrs it turned out it was pretty poor in comparison. There was nothing memorable to it unlike Skyrim. I remember my first time exploring the depths of Blackreach, The first Werewolf and Vampire lord transformation, The first encounter with a Giant or Dwarven Centurion, Exploring the Hjaalmarch swamp etc etc. So many good things to remember.
@ Starfield is very repetitive and you end the game by restarting it 😂😂😂. I spent ages trying to enjoy it as well thinking it was going to by what Todd Howard said ‘Skyrim in space’. Definitely wasn’t. Also Starfield is very new… Skyrim is a fourteen year old game or something and it’s still got better ratings and won loads of awards in comparison. Bethesda flopped with Starfield. Maybe TES6 will be better.
@ Conveniently that video popped up in my recommendations. Will be checking that out. And most definitely bro. You got a knack for Elder Scrolls. The way u described stuff whether it be lore or just yo opinion is top notch. Gotta sub🙏🏾
High Rock being placed above Skyrim and Cyrodiil is already dubious but above Elsweyr is madness. Elsweyr is easily top 3 behind Morrowind and next to Hammerfell. Cyrodiil is in my opinion underrated as well. My list would be: Summerset Isles (about as generic as it can get), High Rock, Valenwood (about the only interesting things are the cannibalism and walking trees), Black Marsh (underdeveloped in my opinion), Skyrim (dragon cult stuff is interesting), Cyrodiil (with lore in mind), Hammerfell, Elsweyr, Morrowind. Though I have a lore bias I will admit.
Ahh good old Morrowind my least favorite, boring colorless region full of just depression and so, so boring and forgettable (Opinion based on the worst elder scrolls game I’ve played of the big three) All I can say for Morrowind thank god for mods
I would like to explore other continents in Elder Scrolls VI like Akaviri, or Atmora. Unfortunately for 80% we are going to get Hammerfell province in the next game.
Props on a nice video. ;) I really enjoyed it. That said, I think my list would be quite different. n.n" For example, Elsweyr, Summerset and Skyrim would be a lot higher, actually, they probably would be my top 3 regions. Now, I need to say that I do find every region intersting lore-wise. It's just sad that about some we learn more than others. But I would rank Skyrim higher for among other reasons the one you ranked it so low. I hate heat. I really, really don't like it. I prefer cooler climates. And I do actually live in a Swiss mountain valley, so I love the familiarity. For those reasons, I would rank the Alik'r Desert really low. Which is part of Hammerfell, I guess, and you ranked that region as a whole. Oh, and what I wanted to say about Blackmarsh, while I would NEVER EVER live here as a human - I hate insects as is, so any swamps with tons of mosquitos and other creepy crawlers would be a nightmare for me - I do find the culture of the Argonians with their Aztec/Mayan inspiration reeeally aesthetically pleasing. Which is one reason I love Elsweyr and the Khajiit so much. I am a cat person anyways. And I find their culture such a unique blend of Indian and Asian culture that I really enjoy, with the buildings more Asian influenced and their clothing, if I am not mistaken, sometimes having an Indian touch more than Asian. Also, they have fighting monks à la Shaolin? HELL YEAH. I even got all three martial arts emotes in ESO, the Whispering Claw, Goutfang and Desert Rain. And to be honest, I think every region would deserve a game to explore them more in depht like Skyrim did... well, Skyrim, and the Nord. But I guess we'll never get that, although I am sure there would be very cool stories that could be told in every region. I mean, they still could tell a story further back in time, not necessarily only Fourth Era and forward. Some regions might even be more tailor-made to explore a certain point back in time than others. Like, yeah, the Three Banners War for the Imperial City is raging in ESO, as the pvp in that game (although it is lorewise kinda resolved in the High Isle dlc?) it might be quite interesting to have a main game that gives a more specific and detailed depiction of how that war comes to an end. As is, I guess all we can do is wait and see what Elder Scrolls 6 will bring. Oh, and I am curious... what'll we get first? Elder Scrolls 6 or GTA 6? XD Cause GTA 6 still not being out is a meme by now. XD But my curiosity is genuine, I do wonder what'll come out first. I hope Elder Scrolls, of course, cause I am not a GTA player.
I know ranking the provinces is the UA-cam clickbait thing to do, but I would have much preferred this to be just an analysis of the provinces instead of an individual ranking. The provinces are an ecosystem and the context that each of them are on the same continent and sometimes in the same empire is more important than "which is better"
@@zblackcapricorn that is what the video is lol? Or at least that’s what I’m going for it’s more an analysis of what makes each cool and awesome and then I rank them by my preference, because I personally like hearing peoples opinions in videos as well. Thanks for taking the time to watch though I might be missing what you are saying
@FranklyGaming I might have commented a little early, I just heard you about ranking the provinces from least to most compelling. Which I immediately took some issues with as it is hard to rank them individually when looking at them in a vacuum. Some of the provinces are a lot more compelling because of how they interact with the others. Cyrodil for example helps elevate the other provinces a lot because of their influence on the other provinces even though they turned it into a fairly bland high fantasy setting in Oblivion. No Cyrodill, no empire and suddenly the world of elder scrolls becomes so much more hollow because the connecting thread between most of the games has been the steady decline and fall of the Septim empire and a lot of the lore is based on the empire. The same with high rock where the Iliac bay area immediately becomes less interesting when you remove things like Hammerfell and Orsinium out of the equation (I count Orsinium as its own thing because it is legally distinct and its location has moved around a lot.) The only province I feel is extremely compelling on its own is Morrowind, but Morrowind can be classified as a masterclass in world building so it is not really fair to compare. Keep in mind while I have played ESO I paid no attention to the story where the empire takes a much smaller role than in the third and fourth era from what I know. Still, while I enjoyed the video I just feel ranking the provinces is hard and at some point you have to ask yourself if an aspect of a province is good on its own or if it is good because of external factors like other provinces or something more meta like originality. I hope that cleared things up somehow that I don't have an issue with the contents of the video, rather the methodology and aim of trying to rank the provinces.
@@zblackcapricorn ya definitely get what you are saying I guess I just like the ranking stuff personally find it interesting to see how other people think too, I appreciate you taking the time to give feedback and watch

Great video, but I feel like exploring the lore is half of it. Exploring the geography and potential for great locations and layouts is the other part. The devs can develop the lore as they want, but the geography is going to have to lend itself well to the game.
@@smushedenterteinment 100% i think all the provinces have a bunch of potential on that front and if anything that’s more important to the stores than lore
Commenting before watching but I want to say this before hearing you: I was super into morrowind and Oblivion, before Skyrim was even a thing. And at that time I would have said Skyrim was among the less interesting region to make a game for the franchise
Not really sure why, but i personally find Hammerfell to be possibly the least compelling province. Really just not a fan of deserts, or the architecture style i guess haha

I always thought it was funny when you run up to the Imperial City it has a 90 degree incline lol
Its also funny how the men and mer are scared of the argonians becoming a strong army taking over the world when the Men and Mer did nothing other than conquesting of other provinces all throughout the world.
I love this video!

"(Skyrim) is an obviously Game of Thrones inspired setting."
Skyrim began development in 2008 and released in 2011.
Game of Thrones aired its first episode in 2011 and wouldn't become popular for a couple more years.
I don't know why people keep trying to push the narrative that Skyrim = GOT, and I get the feeling the only reason they do it is because they believe Oblivion = LOTR.
The books came out way before
@ You said Game of Thrones not ASOIAF, and the books did not contain any "aesthetics", only descriptions.
@@sugarcombfilms3467 "Todd Howard, Bethesda boss, once explained how they had a conversation with Martin’s representatives. @@sugarcombfilms3467 another piece from another article made in 2011 that exctract an interview from todd howard before the game launch:
"With A Song of Ice and Fire, we went ‘We want to do that!’," says Howard. "People in our studio liked it, and it seeped in a bit to what we were doing."
But there was one problem - the soon-to-be created Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
“We wanted to do our own world. That’s where we wanted to put out time into. Before we were even making Skyrim, there was a conversation with George R.R. Martin’s people. They thought it would be a good match-and so did we, actually-but then we thought about if that was where we wanted to spend our time. It was tempting, though.”
He clearly mentioned that martin books influenced their work
Skyrim is not obviously game of thrones inspired.... Since season 1 came out in 2011, the same year as Skyrim
the books came out long before tho. The first GoT book came out in 1996 i believe. So Skyrim might have been inspired by GoT. Either way Skyrim is a beautiful game!

"before es6" 50y is a tight timline
Tbh, I don't like the TESIV, TESV and ESO lore. I feel like the lore that was written in the times of TESIII, TES:Redguard and TES:Shadowkey was the most interesting one :/ I wish to see Tamriel depicted according to it

I think what we have now as well is interesting too
Man, do i have great news for you!
Have you ever heard of Project Tamriel?
Definitely check out Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Tamriel for Morrowind then. About 3/5ths of mainland Morrowind is playable in addition to most of the Kingdom of Anvil and most of the Kingdok of The Reach.

@@SpanishDio glad to hear you are enjoying it! Thanks for supporting the channel
Elsweyr better be on Top
It's ok Frankly. your allowed to show Daggerfall footage for Hammerfell and High rock
@@FranklyGaming yeah, I'd prefer a smaller map with more detail and quality
I love The Elder Scrolls world. I had high hopes for Starfield and after clocking around 120hrs it turned out it was pretty poor in comparison. There was nothing memorable to it unlike Skyrim. I remember my first time exploring the depths of Blackreach, The first Werewolf and Vampire lord transformation, The first encounter with a Giant or Dwarven Centurion, Exploring the Hjaalmarch swamp etc etc. So many good things to remember.
Funnily enough I found Skyrim boring and after dozens of tries could never get into it. Yet I am loving Starfield. Skyrim feels poor in comparison.
U should make a video on Akavir👀
I talk about it some in my elder scrolls iceberg video but ya would love to come back and do more elder scrolls stuff too
@ Conveniently that video popped up in my recommendations. Will be checking that out. And most definitely bro. You got a knack for Elder Scrolls. The way u described stuff whether it be lore or just yo opinion is top notch. Gotta sub🙏🏾
Elsweyr should be number one, it is by far the most interesting province on Tamriel
Skyrim will always be my favourite. It almost feels like it's a real world. Not too crazy with magic or crazy environment.
um ackshually u cant see snow and auroras at the same time the skies have to be clear
Skyrim My 1st RPG and ES game. The game that got me in to play RPGs. My best 4400 hours in a video game.
So Atmora's cities are all named after cities in lord of the rings apparently
Wood Elf Green Pact was like a reverse vegan but bloodier
Ahh good old Morrowind my least favorite, boring colorless region full of just depression and so, so boring and forgettable (Opinion based on the worst elder scrolls game I’ve played of the big three) All I can say for Morrowind thank god for mods
Clicked on the video thinking "province" refered to the holds of skyrim 😅
I would like to explore other continents in Elder Scrolls VI like Akaviri, or Atmora. Unfortunately for 80% we are going to get Hammerfell province in the next game.

The Elder Scrolls 6 won't come out until 2321, so you had plenty of time to decide.
isn’t it funny how the altmer reputation was ruined because of Skyrim and thalmor
You could’ve made this video in 8 years and still be before elder scrolls 6
The pain 😂
The same with high rock where the Iliac bay area immediately becomes less interesting when you remove things like Hammerfell and Orsinium out of the equation (I count Orsinium as its own thing because it is legally distinct and its location has moved around a lot.)
The only province I feel is extremely compelling on its own is Morrowind, but Morrowind can be classified as a masterclass in world building so it is not really fair to compare.
