Pardon my language but Betty White definitely kicked ass in this B&B storyline. It breaks my heart to know that she left us at 99 on New Year’s Eve. R.I.P. Betty, Thanks for the memories! 🙏🏻

Coming from a family of Divorce, and a marriage that never should have happened, I never remember any physical abuse ever, but the emotional, mental abuse my Dad inflicted wounds on me, and my mother, and my family, that no one could see. I remember how unhappy she was, sad. I remember how she always protected her children, from my Dads wrath when needed, but could not protect herself. Overtime I forgave my father as an adult with a child of my own. It took a lifetime to resolve the issues. Both my parents now deceased, and rarely think about the past anymore. It did leave wounds, in my mind and heart, my mom who I loved, more than anyone, and the cruel behavior in a loveless marriage. I have had two great husbands that loved me and I loved them. I really had no healthy role model of a father, but neither did he, my Dad. My mother thought he would change, he never did .So seeing Stephanie with her Mother explains alot about her character. I had forgotten this part of her story, as she left the show many years ago, and I actually stopped watching myself when the quality of the acting got worse, along with story lines.

It took me cutting my father out of my life for 3 years for our relationship to change for the better. So I can understand where Stephanie is coming from. I know that I was a lucky one because my father changed for the better and we have an amazing relationship now but it took a long time. I just wish Stephanie could have confronted her father.

Not that, that is a bad thing because it's not. I think that he was ashamed and took it out on his family. Unfortunately he was raised in a very religious home and for someone like him that was the worst environment to be in. Also the times were different. A well written, well acted, and great portrayal of a common issue in society that doesn't get enough coverage - domestic and physical abuse. This is what soaps are supposed to do- shock you, excite you, draw you in, and at the same time bring up storylines and characters that the audience can relate to. Soaps are not as well written as they use to be - I assume b/c of the limited budgets and etc.

This is frighteningly real--right down to the Doris Day hit of that period. My mother used to sing Que Sera, Sera while she was doing the dishes as if everything was OK. My shrink told me I should confront my father before he passed for my own sake. I did. It was not anyone's best day. Everything about this "vignette"--CBS Cares--A 1 week departure from the regular storyline, is amazing. I guess if there is any comfort here, it is in knowing abused children (of any age) are not alone. Susan Flannery, Betty White, John McCook, Ally Mills and the writers "get it" and it shows in their acting. And thank you for posting this.

We really get insight into Stephanie's character. We get to see the sad child behind the control freak. And she has never been more vulnerable and appealing. Same with my dad, he hit me with his belt and hands when I was a child as discipline, but he never left bruises or bleeding on me. He didn't lose control either. Even if he did, my mom was always able to calm him down. He would apologize at times too. But I'd say Steph got the exact opposite. Her mom didn't stop her dad, her dad seemed like he couldn't control his anger, and Steph was really bruised badly by the beatings. That can seriously affect a someone's life.

I did not watch the show during this time but I like watching the oldclips to find out how the current characters got to be how they are... I used to love Brooke then when I watch the old episodes now I hate her lol!! Seems like the story lines were way better during this time.

The bottom line is this, many people do not want to acknowledge what happened in the past because of shame. Especially parents, because they will have to admit they were not as good parents as they thought they were. Shame and guilt.

Sadly you are right I was sexually abused as a child for years a blocked it out until I was a teenager I never told anyone what happened to me because of the shame and the fear of not being believed

Yes this wasn’t Betty’s normal acting, but it shows what a fine actress she was and could handle any character with superb acting

This storyline on B&B reminds me of the movie Bastard out of Carolina. John is Glen, Ann is Anney, Stephanie is Bone and Pam is Reese but Glen was worse because he sexually abused Bone too.

At the time Stephanie was being abused by her dad she was an innocent child too. I think that's the reason she was an angry person because of her dad's abuse. It doesn't excuse her behavior but it makes sense why Stephanie was the way she was.

@@SR-uf8pt respectfully, no child deserves that, no matter how loathesome an adult they turned out to be. Abuse is no excuse to being shitty, but that doesn't mean that such damage will be undone overnight.

@@KariIzumi1 Why they talk about cycles, of poverty, violence, abuse, it's passed from generation to generation, happens in communities & cultures as well. I went to high school in the '70's with Native students, they were great. Apparently all these decades later their Reserve still doesn't have clean water. I am 3rd. generation of sick family, if we don't stop it it just continues, I am the last of it.
