To think the other deer that can be a carnivore would be a Cheverotain, they eat snails and found in South America.
This guy reminds me of Melon from Beastars manga
Except Melon is batshit insane and cheverotain did it for survival.
Normal deers are also opportunistic predator. When food are scarce or when they want to store extra energy, they can and they will eat other creatures. Birds, mouse, chicks, carcasses, to name a few. This is true for most herbivores too. Hippos sometimes hunt for meat (and also engage in cannibalism), horses ransack chicken coop, caterpillars ambushing other smaller insects, etc.
Carnivores also eat plants sometimes. There are many species that is in the carnivore order but mostly eat plant matter. Like giant pandas (gohin lmao), despite having carnivore physiology, they can live just from eating bamboos (with small amount of insects and meat).
The line between carnivores and herbivores isn’t all that clear. Nature is both terifying and fascinating
@@anonymouswhite7957 That last statement makes me think there's probably lot of misconceptions of nature and biology we have learnt so far, and popular media and lit such as Beastars aren't as crazy or 'just for entertainment value'. (It's clear Paru did some research as she was creating the manga).
Melon is fully a gazelle but he has a leopard features such as his teeth and leopard spots that he covered with tattoos

Here's an interesting video idea, what about one of these second Nature videos on prey? Like how they defend themselves from predators and their tactics? We always see the predators capturing the prey, but we never talk about how the majority of the time the prey usually defends themselves/manage to get away most of the time. That'd be an interesting video for me at least.
