I just heard about this knife 2 months ago and I just absolutely had to have one. Thankfully I found 1 seller in Canada that carries both the black vulcanized fiber & the wood handle so I got the black 'fiber' version, if you oil it as soon as you get it and let it 'cure' overnight, it ends up with that oil slick black finish that you see on a lot of the slick black, S&W .357's & .38's. I love the coating on it, it doesn't even really wear, even after heavy use. Had mine for over a month now, gave it a wicked sharp edge, and have done almost everything with this knife on a daily basis and I FRIGGIN LOVE it, and the edge retention is awesome. For the price of a becker, you could get 3 of these knives here where I live in Canada. After seeing how these knives are made here on youtube, it absolutely disgusts me at how knives made here & in the U.S. are charging an arm & a leg for knives that aren't even that great compared to the MoD. I don't give a rats @ss about no "differential heat treat" or "cryo-quench" or whatever these guys claim to use, it's all a BS marketing ploy. I should know because I own A LOT of American made knives, from Esee, Becker, Kabar to Cold Steel, Ontario, etc.. I am seriously impressed by this knife, made by a long line of British knife makers since the 1700's. If I would've known about this knife all those years ago, I wouldn't have wasted so much money on overpriced knives. This knife came from overseas with quality British steel, so why is this knife cheaper than the ones made here??? Makes no sense!

@@DoloresVillatoro-ho5jg ,… Congratulations!!! I’m glad you found a reputable dealer & got yourself one of these Beasts. - I’ve seen these knives in the past maybe 4-5 years ago but for whatever reasons I purchased other knives instead. Then DBK (Dutch Bushcraft Knives) reviewed them a few weeks ago and I was like “Oh Ya” I completely forgot about those knives. I decided to order one. Of course I could only find one with the wood handle scales but it was good enough so I purchased it. Man! I didn’t know what I was missing. This is a fantastic knife. I sharpened mine and it’s freaking amazing. I finally found a dealer in England that I ordered 2 more from with black handles and a military surplus store here in Ohio and I ordered the last one with a black handle apparently. So at the moment, I have the wood version and a black version that has the Ferro Rod notch and sharpened spine plus a mirror chrome finish blade! I have a normal blued steel one with the black scales and I ordered another one that is on the way now from Sheffield England. Should arrive within 2-3 weeks. So when that last one arrives I will have 4 of these bad Azz blades! They are really nice. They are nicknamed “Pig” knives,… so now I have a pig farm! 😂. If I had bought them sooner, maybe I wouldn’t have appreciated them as much as i do now. I love that these Knives are just rough, do everything, no fancy bull-crap, Full-Tang, Tanks ready for duty. They are definitely in my Top 5 favorite Knives I own. I’m planning on doing several more reviews of the other ones I purchased, over the next few weeks/months. 👍🏻🔪👍🏻

@@JoeDoomsday Ha, Pig farm! That's great. I'm also looking at an MoD 'Brightblade' from Sheffield knives in the UK as well. I like their modded versions but 'm not too crazy about the ferro rod striker notch on the spine, I feel the entire spine of the blade could be used as a striker rather than taking some steel off of the knife. These are some really awesome knives. I took off the retention strap on the sheath and moved it closer to the mouth of the sheath and it holds the knife in a lot better now. We had a windstorm here the last couple of days and I was happy when I woke up and there was small trees and big branches knocked down by the wind because I get to play with my MoD knife and I have cut A LOT of wood. The edge of course held up great but since a lot of the wood was fresh wood, the blade would collect quite a bit of tree juice which was no big deal. I've even taken a measuring tape to some of the wood chips after using this knife, it's like the equivalent of using a small ax because I was making almost half an inch thick wood chips! Yeah man, I absolutely love this knife. I keep it scary sharp and the more I use it, the more I master control when I use it to do fine work. It's literally my do-everything knife. Yeah, I've bought a couple other knives and my last one recently being a Ka-Bar Ek Commando model 4 knife, but I just love my MoD and I just keep coming back to it. The beauty of these knives is that they are so affordable that if I were to somehow lose mine or it got stolen, I could easily replace it. Have you seen the Wessex knives video where they stamp the blade as they pull it out the furnace?? The handles aren't skeletonized at all, one fat slab of steel with the the 3 holes for the rivets. I don't know what steel they use, but all I know is that it's good quality, tough, it stays sharp and that's good enough for me, no magnacut or adamantium cryo crap for me! I hope you enjoy your new knife and have lots of fun building your pig farm, I'm not too far behind ya!

@@DoloresVillatoro-ho5jg ,… 😂. I did see the Wessex video of the heat treatment and the full uncompromised tang. I liked what I was seeing. Just in case a war breaks out or some pandemic occurs I wanted to make sure I got a few of these asap. That’s why I splurged. The funny thing about the bushcraft version I got with the Ferro rod notch is that they sharpen the entire spine of the blade. So the notch really isn’t needed. The notch looks bigger on the camera. It’s really shallow so I don’t think that it’s going to weaken the overall blade too much. I heard that it’s there so you can strike a Ferro rod and not mess up your tender pile because the tip of the blade will contact the ground first,… sparring your tender pile from getting knocked out. 🤷🏻‍♂️. On the original versions,… I don’t even mind the raised handle scales much. With gloves on it gives a better grip.

@@JoeDoomsday I totally agree. I love it just the way it is, and it's great that they have a 'brightblade' version. & modified guard version. The English guy over at Wessex knives, who mods & sharpens them is really cool, he's hilarious and a very talented guy. I wanted to order a custom leather sheath from him but he said that he's so backed up on orders he has to catch up first. The custom sheaths are awesome as are the kydex ones too, but just some slight mods on the stock sheath will do for now. I'm just grateful I got my greasy hands on an MoD knife, it's one of a kind here where I live & amongst my friends. It's a knife conceived in obscurity, not much is known about it, probably will never be featured in an action war movie unlike Kabar, the m3 trench knife or the m7 bayonet, but to me I definitely think that this knife here will be a family heirloom with others as a backup and part of my collection. I love the handle and I've never experienced any problems with it unlike some of my other knives that just have the scales screwed on & loosen from time to time, these ones are bolted on which I really like. It's a simple knife but highly effective once you give it a sharper edge. The only thing I don't do with this knife is slice food with it because it's so thick but in a survival situation, anything goes. What was the saying again? Jack of all trades, master of none, better than the master of one?

IMO it's blued, phosphated steel doesn't shine like that even if it's coated with oil. I do both processes on a weekly basis and know how each finish looks like.

@@chapiit08 ,… I agree. I have a chrome polished version of this knife that I’m going to review in a week or so and it had a few imperfections so I blued it myself and it looks very similar to the other one. They don’t look anything like the phosphate coated versions,… for some reason they still list them as phosphate coated though. 🤷🏻‍♂️. I like the blued look more anyhow. 👍🏻🔪
