- Iron Maiden closed out their touring year at PowerTrip in Indio, California last night and Mike went above and beyond to get some awesome footage!!
Tell us your thoughts on Maiden's set, and your opinion on the turn out.
As Always...
Thanks for Watching
Lot's of people complaining about parking and not able to see Maiden at all because they were stuck in traffic. Also complaining about GNRs sound and the fact that speakers were not working in GA. Glad I decided to fly to Vancouver and see Maiden instead of going to this one!
The speakers worked well enough. I skipped GNR and went back to my car camping area and heard them playing well past midnight.
The Power Trip crowd complained about EVERYTHING. Worst fans ever.
I had a great rail spot Friday in front of Dave and Adrian and scored picks from both of them. Definitely heard lots of complaining about Maiden's set from those who didn't understand their tour. Crowd was dead for GnR. After the initial applause between songs you could hear a pin drop. I definitely didn't need a 3 hour set from them after the full Maiden show. Complete exhaustion by 1AM. Was nice that waters were $2.
WoW…I’ve lots to share but it’s 2:30am and my 2yr old granddaughter will be awake by 9. I don’t want to forger to come back but this one thing: MULTIPLE SHUTTLES WERE UPGRADED TO RESERVED SEATING UPON ARRIVING. EFORE EXITING THE BUSES! We flew in from Texas and rented a vehicle so we could move about Indio freely so yeah, at least 3 shuttles for sure got the GA to reserved seat upgrades so imagine how much more empty it woulda looked! I’ll be back! Great reporting, thank you!
Gotta love metal fans. 102 degrees.....let's wear black!
I could feel the heat from those clips. Ooosh.
GREAT WORK MIKE, YOU YOURSELF IS A "TROOPER" YES MIKE DID MAKE A COMMENT WITH THE SEATS FILLING UP ALL OF A SUDDEN. MIKE DID A GREAT GREAT JOB. AND LOVE YOU GUYS. MAIDEN AND THE MIGHTY METALLICA ARE MY TOP 2 FAVOURITE METAL BANDS FOR LIFE
We stayed at the lake, got there thursday looked at the tents and 100 weather and thought what have I done to myself?!? We chickened out and stayed in a hotel the first night. we roamed town and thought we'd better get back somewhat early since traffic looked bad. lucky we did, they had so many streets blocked, we had preferred parking at the lake. it was still a mile walk to the gates of the venue and then another quarter mile to the show. Mech lines we crazy stupid. Maiden was awesome as always. Glad I saw them last year up and close and they played all of the songs we wanted to see. I just rewatched them on you tube and was reminded of how well they sounded and how well Bruce sang. GnR was a joke. Slash really saved them with his guitar. Axel just couldnt hit the highs at all. I brought my 18 year old daughter, she got to see the bands I saw growing up. Overall was a great show just expensive and abbreviated from what you'd normally see.
PowerTrip was amazing! (Btw, I think I might be in the video when he was at the AC/DC dive bar, but not too sure lol)...but anyways...My friend and I just bought regular GA tickets and sadly we were on the lawn for Iron Maiden and GNR. This was my 3rd time seeing GNR, and my 1st time seeing Maiden! Maiden was probably the LOUDEST concert I've ever been to, and they were amazing! I will definitely see them again.
Then on day 2, we rushed down to the lawn to get the best seats possible...then we found this lady standing in the middle of the GA area with a box, and a few people were going up and talking to her. We made our way over to her, turns out she works for Goldenvoice (organizer for PowerTrip, Coachella, etc.) and she was handing out FREE pit passes!! She cut off our GA wristbands and put on our new pit pass wristbands!! Needless to say, we ended up front row for AC/DC, Judas Priest AND Metallica, and they were all great!!
AC/DC and Iron Maiden (and Ozzy 😭) were the main reasons why made the trip out there in the first place, but the whole weekend was just awesome! AC/DC sounded amazing, Brian and Angus put on one hell of a show! Judas Priest (although not Ozzy Osbourne) were a great fit, and definitely brought a lot of energy to the show, and even brought out Glen Tipton during the encore!!
Tool was great, they had a super cool light show and a lot of really cool trippy videos on the screen. And Metallica was kick ass! I'll be honest...I saw Metallica in Phoenix back on September 1st when James had covid, and the whole band sounded like shit. Like I know James was sick and it wasnt his fault for sounding not as good, but the band just played like shit...like the only member that played well was Robert Trujillo lol. Then I saw them that following weekend for their postponed 2nd Phoenix show on September 9th (originally September 3rd), and they just disappointed the whole night...like how dare you end the show with Whiskey In The Jar lol I absolutely hate that song 😂. But after seeing Metallica at PowerTrip, they 100% redeemed themselves, and put on the perfect show. They all sounded great, played only 2 songs off of 72 Seasons instead of most the album and no St. Anger (thank god!), and nothing but hit after hit after hit!
Also, during Judas Priest and AC/DC, we saw James Hetfield about 20 feet away from us watching the show with us! Overall, just a great weekend!
Good to see you went to both show,,in fact I I know the journey was well worth it,and a whole lot more , well worth the wait ,
Good stuff, Mike. Until next year!
Let me give you guys the rundown. Friday night was a complete disaster for those who paid for preferred parking. My dad and I arrived an hour early to the venue because he had to work that day. We live 2 hours away from indio so we made sure we had enough time to get there and get situated. When we arrived to get to the preferred parking area it was all coned off and security and police were not allowing anyone through. I literally had to leave my pops and run over a mile in converse I might add to get into the venue to not miss maiden. Even Bruce addressed the parking situation during the show and maiden even pushed their set back 15 minutes so that people could try and get in. That's probably why they were playing faster. Those of us who paid $200 deserve a refund because the preferred parking lot was just a dirt lot. Free parking would have been better to park at. Other than that I would say from my experience from this event was that it was more of a corporate event for casuals. People were not getting into maiden and nobody was harmonizing to fear of the dark I was just absolutely disgusted. The fact that maiden played first instead of GnR was also disturbing. Many people were leaving during guns set (including myself) because 1 axl sounded terrible and 2 it would take hours to get out of the horrendous parking situation if you stuck around for the entire 3 hour dragged out set. Friday night was just a disaster but the last 2 nights went much smoother. I wouldn't attend another powertrip fest but it was definitely a historical event.
Thanks for sharing your take. Yeah, sounds like the parking was a money grab (well, wasn't most of the fest, haha)
I've heard similar sentiments to the "corporate" event description you gave.
@@Capnharris I still had a great time it was just a bummer that many people missed out on maiden due to the parking fiasco. Saturday and Sunday nights were great priest sounded phenomenal and tool showed that they belonged on this bill!
@@shadenburke3443 not to mention the legendary return of AC/DC!!
@@Capnharris I can't even put into words. It was an honor to see Angus Young duck walk 🤘🏼❤️
Without people like you going to the show and make it on time to see these bands play live feel like they're at home and not given the people what they want. I think it's an honor in both ways., Il personally think that there has been a lot of power tripping going on.
Well done, Mike! We went to the Edmonton show and Maiden played all three Canada shows much faster than the European shows. Nicko sounds like he is almost 100% again.
I did the same. Went to Edmonton
Nicko was still not playing many of his normal fills but songs like The Prisoner were back to tempo.
Good on him for battling back.
The festival was absolutely incredible. I am almost 60 and I’ve been to many big festivals and have learned that you give yourself MANY hours in advance. To complain about parking traffic or lines is pretty bush league. This thing was absolutely massive… and if you didn’t know to get there well in advance you do now lol! Maiden actually delayed their show a while so that more people could get in. That is straight from the mouth of their tour manager. It’s hard to imagine this lineup doing it again but I hope they do! LEGENDARY.
Great video, thanks for sharing
Last time I went to a festival to see Maiden was OZZFEST 2005. Was trying so hard to win tickets to this.
Great job on location reporter Mike!
…… very nice! ….. 😊
I had a blast in the front row!!!!
Bang, the gong, let's get strong. Bing ,bang,Onca again, the gong dropped, Nicko strong ,alive and kicking, band plays on ,,Bruce's ,"scream for me ".
It took us over an hour to make the left turn into the resort we were staying at. Left home at 5 am for the 9 hour drive. Managed to get in the massive venue with about 45 minutes to spare before Maiden.
Grab a beer and settle in for Maiden.
I thought their sound was really good, maybe the best of weekend. Bruce sounded great.
Crowd was pretty dead.
It was still about 95 degrees when Maiden went on and they played a bunch of new songs. A festival crowd is not going to know the new material.
Bruce acknowledged that by saying (paraphrasing), “We will be playing some new songs. If you don’t like that, tough shit.”
Maiden were good as they always are.
Having never seen AC/DC, they made my weekend.
Greetings from Cardiff, Wales😊 🏴Never again will I complain about the cost of Download festival. At least you can get down the front for that. I,ll even take the rain and pub and disgusting toilets. 😂😂 Another Greta video. And we’ll done Mike.
big venues are crap , got ticket for british lion in january , 300 people sold out , proper gig
Maiden really should have switched their setlist a bit for that one show since they already accepted the offer. It would be way more fun for both the band and the crowd. I mean I love current setlist, but I am a die-hard fan... for all others I see how they could have easily been disappointed
But you also have to respect them for sticking to their guns. They were booked by this fest knowing they were on TFPT this year, so that's what they'd be getting. Not to mention Nicko is probably very comfortable after having played this setlist all summer, and they gotta look out for him during his recovery!
AC/DC was the real star of this festival, and that serlist knocked it out of the park 😂
The dude behind me was yelling for Run To The Hills all set…..ALL set. Haha.
The crowd was dead because of the heat and most people didn’t know any of the new material.
AC/DC played a couple of new songs as well. But, those are going to be easier for casual fans to enjoy than an 8 minute song with long instrumental sections.
All that said, Maiden do what they do, someone can either like it or not, but, they are doing their thing.
I was there and wanted to see this set. I do think they could have added a couple songs at the end as an extra encore. Just needed a couple new banners for NOTB
and Run to Hills
How? They obviously have their enitre visual effects and giant back drops based on a planned static setlist. Not easy to mix things up for a band with theatrics like Maiden. Easy to do with acoustic one person bands....not Maiden

Exactly.
This is every (well, almost every) big band now with a video/stage show.
Once the show is set, it’s set in most cases.
There are also contracted start and end times for shows.
I knew Maiden wasn’t changing their set list for a festival crowd of more casual fans.
maiden dates for next year announced soon or more bruce solo dates ? as bruce said something good happening soon but he couldnt say what yet
Whats going on,welcome to POWERTRIP
So who is planning to see maiden in Japan or Australia next year😃
Didn’t go myself but a friend said he needed binoculars. It was about 80% full. GnR did not sound as good as Maiden. Friend said death of the celts was stand out track. It was still good not sure it is worth what paid.
Great job Mike.
Thanks so much for this great video !!!!
I was hoping and glad the PIT wasn't filled up. It was great for me. I got close enough to every band.. especially for Maiden! Amazing time
Great to see your blog, enjoyed it.
Wow hats off to Mike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Front and center... Thanks
I was At The Power Trip Festival It Was Badass!!🤘🤘
Great job.
Yeah,I was thinking the same thing about sped up songs
I did not go basically because ive seen all of this before and i need a good, close, somewhat comfortable seat as i am about the bands age! I am praying for a north american tour next year!!
THANK YOU Mike!
its done and done. I wish bruce gave more comment on what's next lol
Thanks Mike! The King in the castle! :D
Death Of The Celts killed...as usual :)
Thanks team Capnharris from Brussels, Europe, for this Maiden trip...Love Your Channel ! Merciiiiiiiii :)
It's a tragedy that the festival did not have Monster Magnet perform their song Powertrip on the main stage imo. Thanks for the coverage of course.
I was the guy holding up the straw hat at 12:15.
How Bazaaro.....at the 1 min 42 sec mark....there is a BLACK REAPER Standing to the left as he walks and talks and First mentions Power Trip.....
3:12 thats me (the one with the sunglasses) 😂 i saw Mike on Calgary too and i salute him (like a normal hello) lol
Also at 4:08 LOL what a coincidence😂
Kudos to Mike!
Weird to have a festival in the desert, but issues with parking and traffic 😂
Iron maiden el mas grandee
There's my favorite girl. You're cool too brother. UP THE IRONS.
I like this channel!
Just got back from PowerTrip. I’m a fellow pit-only Maiden die hard. Was about 10ft from the barrier on Adrian’s side. The line before entry was indeed mostly Maiden fans, as Mike’s video suggests. It was so incredibly hot that some people (mainly couples) were tapping out. In fact, my buddy’s girlfriend was passing out and they had no choice but to leave for the medical tent just minutes before Doctor Doctor began :(. I was on my own but I felt really bad for them. Then the show began and Maiden were amazing as usual, I quickly found my mosh pit gang close by where I started.
Unless you were in the pit section, the festival must have sucked. Just looking back as far as the eye can see, I couldn’t imagine being able to enjoy this if I was that far away. No doubt the majority of the festival goers were only able to make things out only through the big video boards.
I pat myself on the back for doing this festival right, not being cheap, and getting there early. For pit goers, I think it’s safe to say that PowerTrip was a huge success and some of the best times of our lives. Everyone else I feel either had a good time since they are more fair weather fans and it was more about the festival experience. However, many feel duped and are outraged and furious. Goes to show always do your research and due diligence for these things and don’t be cheap!
Judas Priest announced their new album right before their set.
Yeah and panick attack puts maiden to shame .
At 23:57 Adrian kicks the Balloon like a boss!
Nickos gong fell again 😂 they need to rethink how they attach it lmao
Those empty seats were empty due to the fact it took hours to get merch
With inflation in the US right now and with alot of folks struggling it's not surprising this overpriced event did not sell out. Maiden killed it though.
Yeah this looks like a mess. Hoping for some good US Dates to be announced for 2024 now!
Up the irons
rumour a while back that acdc charge 3million dollars for a festival , no idea what maiden charge these days
It had to be a lot of money because iron maiden was supposed to tour europe only
I feel that the timing for this was totally off...This in 2018? Sold out. Now it was just not the right time with all that is going on in the world ( mainly inflation), and all the hype around this was not that real hype where you have a feeling "man I wish I could go to see this" if you know what i mean. Not to mention you can see almost all of these bands ( except for ACDC ) on tour in their own setting with their own hardcore fan base for much less.
Much much less. When it was Ozzy on the bill, okay, those two you rarely see. But now, every single band outside of AC/DC actively tours and as you said can be seen for much much less even if you've added up all your tickets together after buying.
Haha, yeah, Legacy of the Beast 1st setlist likely would have been very well recieved too if they did 2018!
Metallica!
TICKETS 599 DOLLARS S ?????????????????????????????????? HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. This is CRANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After listening to their fans telling us how great they are, I can't remember one song they sang. Sorry folks, I wasn't impressed.
Why American fest is so s*it?
I had a grandstand seat.
A few empty seats during night one and during Tool.
They were full where I was Sat night and during Metallica.
