Very informative video! I like the way you explain every step clearly. I'm learning more than I did from my instructor. Keep up the good work Machinist! ⚙🔧👌🏻
Thanks I need a Refresher course on everything and this one did help alot so I will watch this a couple more times ( I need Repeated Visual and Hands on to remember things )
thank you for this video, now I can recommend this to all my classmates it gets annoying when I'm trying to run a part and I have 6 other classmates bothering me how to do their offsets ext. Lol
It would be very helpful if you could show close ups of the buttons as you press them. You can shoot those shots afterward and insert them as needed. Thanks for the video. It's extremely helpful.
Yes, and use table as referance, then next time on another job, you only set workoffset with one tool :) Alot quicker. The way they are setting tool offset take alot more time if you mill different jobs on same machine.
Thanks for your question. Please refer to your HAAS dealer or HAAS service pro for tips on a good used machine. I am not a HAAS specialist but a video production and tutorial pro.
Very good lesson...just one question. Towards the end after the operator found the zero on the X and Y axis with the edge finder, you said to zero F1 the Z. Wouldn't this erase the values you input with the initial set up of the Z axis with each tool with the paper method? Again, very informative lesson, I just didn't get that last part...thanks!
I like what you have done. Question: do you have a hard copy of the HAAS CNC Vertical Mill Set-Up Tutorial, or some sort of closed caption for this video? I'm kind or toned deaf, so I missed a few parts due to the background noise.
If I buy a used HAAS vertical mill, how do I know I'm getting a good machine? How do I keep from getting burned and end up with a bad machine that needs expensive repairs?
you can get it ball bar tested, you can see how many hours it has via the control, the overall physical condition is a pretty good indicator, these machines tend to stay in one place.
You don't find many good used haas machines. They don't have the lifespan of a Mori or a Mazak which is why they are considerably cheaper. The main thing you want to check out are the bearings and ways. Check for backlash and make sure everything is tight. If they come from a high production shop your best bet is stay away.
Supply compressed air with a minimum of a 2 hp (1.5 kW) compressor with a minimum of 20-gallon (75 L) tank, made for continuous duty. Your compressor must have 2 hp (1.5 kW) for each machine (e.g, an installation of 5 machines requires a 10 hp (7.5 kW) compressor). You will want about 80 psi (5.5 bar) and 4 scfm (113 L/min) and a 3/8" (9.5 mm) air line. Using air blast features will require more air capacity. You can find more specific info here: diy.haascnc.com/reference-docs/pre-installation-information#gsc.tab=0
Hi Rebecca, i have a chance to get a mini mill yr 2001. They are telling me the spindle on time is 1470. But just recently the power supply was replaced ,tell me does it reset all or is the numbers in flash memory and unchangeable. Also getting this for 10000.00... any thoughts... thanks. never ran a haas before. so i will be back. thanks again
So I'm a complete rookie never having touched a CNC machine, but registered for a course. Basically this video tells us the steps that need to be taken. But, unfortunately, it isn't very helpful in showing HOW to complete those steps. No close ups to show us what we are actually looking for to complete the tasks. But thank you for taking me through the process.
U dont need to move in x when your setting .. the part is not machined flat and you could scrape the part and or chip or break your tools.. Touch off on the paper for each tool like you were doing.. then when you set your work offset, all tools will move to your z positions ..
Fang Liu dude this is a little tm haas mill and you don’t bore with a fly cutter you need a boring head I have some VF mills that could that machine is not very ridged for that kind of work
Which are the requirements to work in an industry like that?? It's neccesary to be engineer or technician??. It's possible to work there doing a cnc course??
mam we need more videos for the setting the actually am a student am interested in the learning these things but in our country we can't see these machine.kindly help me as send me the link that i can learn the programming and (tool and workpiece) setting.
Use edge finder on each edge of the part in the axis u want to find zero for... but importantly when you go down in z to get the edge finder to hit the side of th round part z has to be the same z depth for both sides of the stock
Typically between $18 and $19 per hour depending on your experience and location. Check out this article for more on typical CNC salaries. It is a skilled trade so there is room to grow once you get experience. www.owlguru.com/career/computer-controlled-machine-tool-operators-metal-and-plastic/salary/
It's not as uncommon as you think. She is the instructor and I know several women in the industry. And please have some respect. The term "girlie" is condescending.
Computers and the cheap cost of software and capability of things like sensors have become so fantastic and easy to use, there is no need for such an over complicated process as this. This isn't a dig on HAAS, its nonsense thats infected all of these things.
Hi Rebecca . How are You ? Yes I´m doing , I check whith the guys, Thank You eny way , Please may be one day You can help me . not problem for de time I will be thankful . Thank You very much. Elias. from Argentina
You can turn on closed captioning, which we included because of the background noise that we had no control over. Just turn on the CC box in the lower right of your screen to see the text of what she is saying.
Yes. I shot this video with the instructors at Eastfield College. I put this video together with them for their tutorial use. It was shot for them with their instructions on what to shoot and why.
Your efforts are appreciated, its just there are moments the camera should zoom in to the screen or to the machine table to show exactly what the speech is about...Thanks
machinist pro I heard they've been purchased and are making a comeback. Best damn 3 axis machines available reliable and built like a tank. 4/5/6 axis I prefer fanuc specifically makino pro6 touchscreen makes haas controllers look and feel obsolete and clunky in comparison.
Very informative video! I like the way you explain every step clearly. I'm learning more than I did from my instructor. Keep up the good work Machinist! ⚙🔧👌🏻
+Oskar Dgrouch Thank you. We're hoping to do another tutorial this spring.

Lol, we only have 1 cnc mill and lathe at my school. You will never get bothered for offsets ;)
It would be very helpful if you could show close ups of the buttons as you press them. You can shoot those shots afterward and insert them as needed. Thanks for the video. It's extremely helpful.
When you find the zero position on the work piece, I used to use a (setting block) specific sized block on the spindle nose (quill).

+Mario Gutierrez No, he zeroed the Z axis for the work offset, not the tool offsets
Ahhh, thanks a lot
+Rebecca Rice (Rebecca Rice Channel) tq for the subs
Would you happen to know where I can get a simulator for Windows that has the same exact controls as a Haas machine?
exelent video tutorial. I`m need more video tutorial pleease. Thank you. see you
Very good step by step tutorial. Can you do a caption for this video because your voice doesn't carry with the built-in microphone of the camera.
+Whitehorze I will add captions. Great idea. The background noise of the machine makes audio a bit challenging.
More than anything it's the echo in most production facilities.
It has captions now.
Very beginner stuff little tm/vm mill it’s cute
When did Janeane Garofalo become a cnc operator?

+dswynne Unfortunately we do not have a hard copy of the set-up tutorial at this time. Hope to add cc's for future videos.

Hello Rebecca I was wondering how much compressed air was necessary to run a VMC. Thanx

I wonder , is it possible to machine truck's engine cylinder blocks on this HAAS machine by using fly cutter?
Fang Liu dude this is a little tm haas mill and you don’t bore with a fly cutter you need a boring head I have some VF mills that could that machine is not very ridged for that kind of work
you should work on your camera positioning so people can see the detail of what youre doing.
setting z zero at
11:45
Why should first set the work offset before toolset lenght..i think its much better that in that way my opinion only thanks
Which are the requirements to work in an industry like that?? It's neccesary to be engineer or technician??. It's possible to work there doing a cnc course??
Makondo 33 most employers want you to be certified as a cnc operator. check your local colleges and universities for cnc certification programs.
Ohh I'll do it.Thanks for answering :)
Rebecca Rice being certify is a plus but not necessarily depending on your skills @ how long on computer numerical control experience!
Control time we want to see the display and control panel at a time clearly .so we will learn well.
what Kurt vise are you using in this video
nik ackerman Hi Nik - That vise is the Kurt HD 690 6" jaw width x 9" opening capacity.
Rebecca Ricethanks i saw that vise and i knew it was a kurt but thanks for clarifying what model it was
mam we need more videos for the setting the actually am a student am interested in the learning these things but in our country we can't see these machine.kindly help me as send me the link that i can learn the programming and (tool and workpiece) setting.
You forgot to turn on the flux capacitor before you tried to put the key back in.
Nice
hello miss rice!!..is it a version 16 software?..
+vergil albia Hi Vergil, Sorry for the late reply. It is Haas software version M18.22A.
ahhh okey..so is version M18.22a softwar much higher than version 16 software?..
Yes.
how to find the center on a round part with a edge finder

I have a degree
lol such a nooby set up wrong wrong wrong
No wonder why that crap is actually crap. Have ever heard thing called Mazak?
Yes but please remember that Haas Mini Mills are the industry standard for compact machining centers. The right tool for the right job.

Haas sucks, fadal is better
Is that why Haas is a $1B/year company and Fadal is ancient history?
