In this episode, we start installing our sink faucet, water filtration and plumbing systems. After testing it out, we realized our ceramic filter was broken, so we had to wait another week to have clean, running water. In the meantime, we get to work building shelves in our kitchen, both under the counter and above the counter on the wall. Next, we install some gutters on the eaves of the cabin. This is the first step of our future rainwater collection system. We returned with a new ceramic filter and were thrilled to find out everything worked perfectly this time. We officially have clean, running water! One last task we do in this episode is to install some curtains to cover the shelves under the counter. We opted for curtains instead of bulky wood doors because they add color to the cabin, are easier to open and close, take up less space, and ended up being cheaper to make. We made these curtains ourselves by sewing fabric to shape, then snapping in grommets. We are super happy with the final result and are quite impressed with ourselves since we've never sewed anything before.
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

You guys would make your work much easier by making a workbench with a vise. I just noticed that one of you hold a piece of wood for the other one to work on it on many occasions. But I love your work.

As always, all of your tasks are done with considered thought and application. I’m glad you’ve got your gutters up, and the curtains in the kitchen area look perfect. I hope you also add the same kind of curtains on your cabin windows. They’ll look very cozy indeed. The water filtration system looks very smart. Step by step you are getting everything set up and you can be very proud of yourselves. You must be so looking forward to the snow melting away. There is so much to contend with. It’s so good to see you both doing so well. Take care, and cheers from Australia. 👏🏻🇦🇺🦘

Thank you so much Libby! Yes we're very excited for snow to melt (but not mosquito season) so we can start being more productive. We're also excited to move in full time and experience all the seasons in the cabin! Cheers :)

So cool you have a new sponsor! You two are really getting professional! Interesting to note that kitchen cupboards were simply open shelving until well into the 20th century. You are one up with the pretty kitchen drapes. When you are done, you will have quite the "tiny House" to live in. Where I was younger I had a large family, we raised 7 children. I always wanted big. Big house, car, everything. Now that I am older, tiny is very compelling to me. I think your cabin is amazing.

You have high roofline inside the Cabin, hang a 45 gallon barrel as high as you can get it mounted, use it for water, it will give natural pressure and in summer can be filled from rain barrels using your pump! Fill it with your 5 gallon jerry cans, in winter once again using your pump to get the water up there as long is always heat in the Cabin

You have just about all the various types of screwdrivers there are, including a 'Yankee' screw driver. I'm sure you know that was developed so you could easily drive srews by simply pushing down on the handle. So why don't you use it that way when you can? You guys are doing a fantastic job on your cabin and hope you Nick have a quick recovery from your injury.

After a lifetime of expwrimenting i would never recommend curtains for under bench . They are completely inadequate in ketping out dust, dirt, insects and small vermin. Anything left under there for a few days will have a layer of dust on it. Spiders and other insects will build nests or webs . Your wood fire will generate a heap of sooty dust residue and with it being so close to the entrance door the loose ash and dust will be stirred up everytime your entrance door moves. This is jist part and parcel okc this lifestyle but this is why i discourage the idea of curtains esp for floor level cupboards. You may choosevto ignore this advice and thats your prerogative , i am simply pasding on what i have onserved over 70 odd years.
I take nothing away from the incredibly amazing job you have done together in building this entire cabin !!! Kudos to you both for a job marvellously done, and with grace and dignity to each other.

One suggestion. You have no fresh air coming to your stove to heat from outside. Now you are spending your warm air within the cabin and that is not Good. There could possibly be a lack of oxygen to breathe during Long winter nights. 🍀🍀🍀. Change stove please. No oxygen could be dangerous.
