a little fun fact about bees that i found, bees work together in a crisis situation, i was in my room the other day and i saw a bee get stuck in my window (in between the glass and the screen) about a minute later another 5 bees showed up, and basically this took about 30min for it work, but the 5 bees actually worked together to get the bee that was stuck free.
I'm researching to become a beekeeper and I loved this! The more I find out about bees the more I'm amazed. As Stephan B. and others stated below, there is a mistake at 2:19. The video states "A drone bee can fly out of the hive... once he gets to a set of flowers ...grabs some nector..." A drone's only purpose is to mate with the queen. They don't collect nector or pollen - they don't even have a stinger. The worker bees are all female and they are the ones that collect nector & pollen, draw comb (make the bees wax), collect water, take care of the baby bees, take care of the queen, protect the hive, and on and on.
So the kill statistics rated them better. But only dumb people get killed that way. I would stay away from a hive or nest and I won't allow any wasp or hornet to build a nest at my house. You have to be as dumb as Fire Marshal Bill to be in such a deadly situation.
wasps eat insects, such as mosquitoes. They are actually quite different from bees, having a very different diet. I do prefer honey bees over wasps though.
its all the natural selection wasps are the more agressive while bees are more the passive oy im just passing by but then again there still is some good wasps out there and also hornets are basicly a different type of bee/wasp
Susannah Ayres-Thomas And drones are not workers. Make drone bees, a minority of the hive population, do nothing but wait for a new queen, then fly after her and compete for the chance to mate with her. Then they all die, including the winner.

Iosso Lol. It's all opinions! But what I mean is they find a new home, and buzz. The longer they buzz, the better they rate it, and more bees go to see the area. Than eventually if the queen sees that a lot of bees are voting for an area, that will be their new home.
batman88891 The queen herself nor any individual makes any decisions in an insect hive bud. Nearly everything is 100% automated with chemicals/behaviour. The BBC have done another documentary on the leaf-Cutter ant that's really interesting.

Ive heard that some insect larvae trill in social hives, buts its so quiet and at the right frequency that only the workers of the hive/colony can hear it.
Raw garlic is king when it comes to killing parasites. And since it has no known side effects, you can consume a whole bulb each time you eat it. The sulphur compound "Allicin" in garlic, is the deadly weapon. However, it is an unstable compound and only remains stable for about 10 minutes after you mince it, so you want to eat it within that time period. Before you mince your garlic, first scramble some eggs and then mix the garlic into them. You can also add some mayo as though you are making an egg salad. Eating it with the eggs will absorb most of the sting of the raw garlic I have found
Hey - I may not be an apiarist but stealing is stealing. Those bees work their little behinds off to make this enriching food source. If man was so intelligent - why doesn't he learn to make honey using chemical processes?
Ummm... Drones don't do all that nectar gathering and dancing stuff. The workers do that. The drones just fly around and have sex with the queens. They only do it once, though, because the queens have inward-facing hairs that grab onto the drone's boy parts. He tries to pull out, but ends up leaving his junk behind. Ouch! But what a way to go!

so glad you put that out! I put that only the female bees work but your comment explains better.
Bee are way better than wasps
They don't make homes on your property and create a muddy mess.
Could you collect honey from Japanese hornets and how tame are they?

ryian Vu I think the real question here is where did you get the idea that males can't get pollen?
shitty school? but i guess after that I wasn't curious enough to question.
Peter Geras actually females are the one's who collect pollen, males stay behind and mate with the queen and do not possess a stinger.
Guess there is some benefit to getting stung by a bee after all. That is if they leave their venom.
6 years later and still nothing
I thought all worker bees are females?
bees actually go through different jobs as they mature. larva, cell cleaner, nurse bee, wax production, worker bees, and foraging bees.
